Make sure you know which degree/program you're after so that you can register for the correct classes. Check out which scholarships are offered to see if any might apply to you, and stay on top of your paperwork. Take advantage of all the info on the website as well as the on-campus academic advisers. Also, look up instructors on (or just ask other students about their experiences in different instructors' classes) before signing up for classes each semester. A good instructor can make all the difference!
