Colleges in Vermont

The Green Mountain State is steeped in New England tradition, maple syrup, and institutions of higher learning. There are 22 colleges in Vermont, 6 public and 16 private, offering a wide range of programs and majors. Vermont has both small schools (defined as less than 2000 students) and "very large" ones (10,000 or more students) and everything in between, including community colleges, in urban and rural environments.

The University of Vermont is the flagship and largest public university in the state. Located in Burlington, University of Vermont is made of up seven undergraduate schools, an honors college, a graduate college, and a college of medicine, most notably the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources. It is also one of the original eight "Public Ivies," a distinction coined in 1985 bestowed to universities that provide an Ivy League experience at a public school price.

Castleton State College, a public university located in Castleton, is the oldest in the state and offers degrees in more than 30 undergraduate as well as master's degrees in education.

Vermont Technical College is located in Randolph Center, and Kyle, a student from Williamstown, VT, had this to say about it: "Vermont Technical College is a fantastic hands-on college.
