Art Teacher Education

CollegesCollege Majors › Art Teacher Education

If helping others develop their artistic talents appeals to you, consider majoring in art teacher education. Being able to help others foster their creativity and embrace their talents is a rewarding and enjoyable career.

College courses will take place in both the classroom and the studio. You'll take classes that are focused on art history, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, and theories of art. However, coursework isn't all art focused - you'll also learn more about educational psychology, child development, and educational pedagogy. One semester will be spent doing a student teaching practicum, in which you'll act as a classroom teacher while being supervised by a licensed professional.

Art teachers typically work with kids from kindergarten through twelfth grade, but positions outside of schools do exist. Some art teacher education majors decide not to become teachers and instead work in museums, art therapists, or educational administrators.
