    be yourself in your essay. come visit the campus to check for your gut-feeling component of your college search if you can - it can feel isolating for some which is completely opposite of a city. coming from near a city, the rural surroundings for me was actually perfectly complementary and enjoy the scenic views.

    think about the type of environment you'd like to study in. if the "rural life," snow, and small town environment aren't things you enjoy, think critically about your decision. williams does provide all the resources and entertainment you may enjoy while in the berkshires, though, and all the factors listed above haven't bothered me too much in my four years. plus you really can't beat the type of education and support williams gives its students.

    williams students are all pretty involved. this does not mean we are all involved in everything, but many of us dedicate ourselves to something we are truly passionate about. write about that in your common app essay. williams likes to hear what you believe, how that formed you into the person you are today, and how that will help the community at our school.
