Western isn't as large as UW but Bellingham living and tuition are both much cheaper and the environment is much more personal.

Included in your fees includes a student health center for if something happens or you need a check up. It also helps pay for Westerns own police force providing 24 hour escorts if you ever want to be walked from one location to another for some reason. Also included in your fees is free bus system in the area, you can get just about anywhere on a bus ether for free, or cheep for being a student if you use/show your ID.

WWU includes extra fees in the tuition to cover a bus pass and a membership to the rec center. It's nice to have those things, but really, you paid for it. Almost every store or restaurant has student discounts! Ask around because they may not advertise it.

There are many local restaurants and small businesses that participate in a coupon book given out to all western students. The discounted food on campus is always a plus and everything from the mall, Costco, Walmart, the Bellingham Bay and so on are within a 10 mile radius.

Western is just the best, hands down, for college in my opinion. It's close to Seattle, so you're just an hour away from anything you could want to do in Seattle, but without the Seattle prices. Renting places off campus is cheap, and most of the food around here is pretty cheap too. It's a college town, and the local businesses are AMAZING about giving student discounts.
