    UW-Superior
    In three sentences

    UW-Superior is a great college with a small student to teacher ratio. This school is very affordable and provides an excellent learning experience. At UW-Superior, there are many clubs you can get involved with and a wide variety of outdoor activites everyone can enjoy.

    What to do for fun

    UW-SUPERIOR is absolutely amazing!! If you like the cold weather and winter sports, you’ll love going to this college. There’s so much to do outside of classes. Superior is a smaller town, but Duluth is right across from us so there’s even more to do! Bowling, hiking, skiing, swimming, you name it and it’s here.

    UW-SUPERIOR is absolutely amazing!! If you like the cold weather and winter sports, you’ll love going to this college. There’s so much to do outside of classes.     With the recent remodel in our Student Union, there is even more optional for meals, including the Caf�©, a grill, sub shop, and Caribou Coffee.
    Dorm Life

    Especially within the freshman dorms, it truly becomes your second home. Very inclusive community, with dorm activities, and study-help sessions.
    Tips for prospective students

    Don't underestimate the quality of the education based on it's size. Student to Teacher ratio (17:1) is kept lower to help ensure the individual student success. There are many resources throughout campus that are available to student to help them with whatever their needs may be.

    Food is greasy, and the cafeteria has poor hours. Go for the cheapest meal plan.

    Dorms are old and most of the people living there are (not surprisingly) troglodytes.

    If you're looking for the typical college experience, you won't get it here. But you will get a great education.

    When there is an emergency they respond fairly quickly, but if you are locked out of your room or your car, they take their time getting to you. So keep those keys on you and their number in your cell at all times!
    Clubs and Activities

    They offer Jacket Fest where all the organizations on campus come together to welcome back students. The student invovlement department is great when it comes to helping you find or even start your own organization, answer questions, or just chit-chat.
    Great for these types of students

    Anyone who is outgoing and ready to be on there own. If you like the Arts, Business, Science, or Teaching this school is for you.
    Bang for the buck

    The size and facilities on this campus are almost like a private school for the price of a technical school. It really is great! Plus, you get so much included with your tuition.
    What to do for fun

    Go to Wisconsin Point for fires in the fall and spring. Also, attend the free events on campus put on by WSA, YAC, and other organizations. They have some pretty great things like 'Jacket Racket (which is like homecoming), Fall-A-Palooza, Cultural Night, and many more!
    Food and Dining

    If you like pasta and tacos, you are golden! Sometimes you get lucky and get a Build-Your-Own-Flatbread Pizza Day, but otherwise it is pretty questionable what you are eating. The only good thing about the cafe, are the older ladies who work there. They remember who you are and actually ask you about things going on in your life.
    Dorm Life

    The Resident Assistant's are usually pretty outgoing, helpful, and creative. I think it is a good idea to talk to your roommate about things, and then attend floor programs to know who you are living by. It really helps create a floor community and build lasting relationships.
    Academic Rigor

    As a marketing major, you get a lot of hands on expereince out in the community. Especially with this university being a liberal arts institution, you get more of a world view on life. It can be difficult at times, but you get the opportunity to actually practice what you are learning out in the real world.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get involved early on. It makes a big difference if you find an organization, department, or intramural right off the bat instead of hiding in your room. Also, talk to your roommate early on about little things, like having the window open at night, it'll save from trouble later on.

    This university is like a little small town that is close enough to some amazing indoor and outdoor adventures. You get to know a lot of people on campus and in the community that actually remember who you are and little things about you.

    The Campus Safety on campus are a great group of people. They take the time to get to know you.
    Clubs and Activities

    Lots of variety. During my time at UW-Superior, I was on numberous intramural teams including dodgeball, volleyball, basketball, soccer, flag football, IM Olympics and broomball. I was a member and President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee where I got to work with other athletic team leaders on fundraising and evnets. I was a choir member and participated in numerous choir concerts.
    Great for these types of students

    UW-Superior is great for all types of students from high school graduates to transfers. They make you feel at home here.

    YU is a great hang out spot, especially at lunch and dinner. Dorms are where you relax.
    Bang for the buck

    Great cost for tuition. Lowest in the Twin Ports area (way lower than St. Scholastica and UMD) and even in the UW System (just compare Madison to UW-Superior and you'll see what I mean.
    What to do for fun

    More like what isn't there to do for fun? If you go out and experience new things, you will never run out of things to do. Join Outdoor Adventures and kayak Lake Superior at midnight or go cavediving at the Apostle Islands. Get into music, and join the choir like I did. You have never met professors so passionate about what they do than in the Holden Fine Arts Building. Try out for a sports team. I came here for soccer and have had the best experience ever! Go out and explore campus as well as the Twin Ports area; there is sooooo much for you to do, try and see!

    The food is great. Nice variety and decent hours of operation.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life is great! You get to meet a ton of new people and always know what's going on (especially on the weekends). Remember to keep an open door policy the first few weeks of school, so you are able to meet people.
    Academic Rigor

    Your professors the first few years in college will pile a lot of homework and busy work on you. The higher you get into your major the more concentrated your studies become. Have fun with those random gen eds because once they are done, you're going to wish you had them back.
    Tips for prospective students

    - Choose the college you can see yourself at (this will be your home for at least the next four years) - Get involved on-campus. A lot of the time people transfer because they don't put themselves out there and try new things. In order to enjoy college, you have to step outside your bubble and experience it. - Beware of the party scene (especially you freshmen) - Procrastination is inevitable, but be prepared for the consequences. - Take responsibility for your own future. Don't wait for your parents or someone else to figure things out for you. Just step up and do it.

    UW-Superior was the best fit for me. I made great friends, studied abroad, was on the soccer team, a member of the choir and leader of an organization. I was able to do everything here.

    I had a friend in Greek Life who seemed to enjoy it but I don't here too much about it.

    There's a club or activity to satisfy almost anyones hobbies. If there isn't you can create your own club and get the campus involved in what you have to share.
    Great for these types of students

    Anyone who likes a smaller school or one on one time with teachers belongs here. People who are fond of outdoor activities should also be here with the Big Lake right by us and a wonderful outdoor program there's a lot to explore.

    Even though we do not have a football team, there still is a homecoming week where each day of the week you dress up according what was picked.
    Bang for the buck

    There are a lot of new buildings at the school and more activities being developed each year.
    What to do for fun

    I am an athlete at the school, and enjoy every minute of competing. I spend a lot of time in the Wellness Center getting in shape.

    The cafeteria is pretty new, and has a lot of different options for anyones taste.

    There are Floor programs every month in the dorms where your RA will plan some kind of fun activity to get everyone on the floor familiar with each other and to create a fun atmosphere in your living space.

    The teachers at UW-Superior are super helpful in answering questions you may have.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get involved as much as you possibly can. It looks good on resumes and you also develop great social skills which will benefit you in the future.

    University has a smaller student enrollment then most schools which helps making friends and knowing your professors easier. In small classroom sizes, questions get answered by teachers instantly. There are also plenty of programs to get involved in, to help in meeting people.

    Bang for the buck

    Tuition every where is outrageous. It's hard finding a school that is worth the huge amounts that you're paying, but I would say UWS is one of the few. You get the one on one time you need with your teachers and an over all quality education for an average price.
    What to do for fun

    There are always things going on around campus. There are tons of different clubs and groups to get involved in and sometimes the clubs do things for the rest of the student body! At UW-Superior we have a Barbecue club that cooks out in the middle of campus and gives out free food! There are movie nights,grocery bingo, bible studies, and even open mic nights where any one can get up and show off a talent!

    The food at UWS is mind blowing! It isn't your average cafeteria food. The cooks go the extra mile to make sure the menu is always changing. I have to say my favorite is the sushi!
    Dorm Life

    Living in the dorms is the best way to meet new people. At UWS every resident hall has floor or building activities about once a month. Last year two resident halls worked together to pull off an amazing end of the year party!
    Academic Rigor

    The class sizes are small so you get the individual time you need from your teachers, but just because it's a smaller campus doesn't mean that the work load is smaller. The teachers at UWS challenge you and push you to work hard!
    Tips for prospective students

    Visit the campus! No matter what school you want to go to always go and size it up first. It might not be what your looking for, and always keep your options open!

    UWS has a small community feel to it. Its a great place to go to feel welcome and secure! There are small class sizes and the teachers really connect with you!

    the campus is very well lit and campus security are friendly and accessible. i am often on campus at night and have never had a bad experience. i always feel safe and confident when traveling around campus in the evening.

    there are clubs for people of all interests. as a biology major, i am mostly interested in the students of science group, which provides a chance to speak to professionals in our field and meet other students with similar interests.

    as a biology major, uws is the perfect place for me because of the wild life areas close to campus. i am within driving distance of the lake superior zoo, hawk ridge bird observatory, st. louis river, and several state parks. i have a chance to recreate and do my research in the same area!
    What to do for fun

    uws is located near lake superior, which provides fantastic natural settings to hike, bird watch, fish, swim, and explore. on the other side of the bridge from superior, the city of duluth offers performances of plays, orchestras, films, and art galleries. there are also several popular restaurants and clubs for those that like to go out.

    there are several small cafe style eateries on campus as well as a coffee shop that are quite good. the campus is also located in the middle of a small business district, which provides access to several restaurants.

    courses are challenging enough to push me trough new material. my current courses also cross over frequently and allow me to use new skills and knowledge in multi-disciplinary settings.
    Tips for prospective students

    study the prescribed amount my your instructors! do not under estimate the value of being prepared each day for class. it will lower your stress level and push you to a higher level of learning and understanding. college is so much more fun when you study!

    uws is welcoming, with constant support from my instructors and more than sufficient facilities. the staff in all areas of the campus have gone out of their way to assist me while i manage my non-traditional schedule. this is my second attempt at earning a college degree, and for the first time, i feel like i can succeed.

    Great for these types of students

    Anyone and everyone goes here. I was surprised how many non-traditional students go here when I first came. Now, though, I love them! They bring a new perspective into classes and I've had some great conversations with them that I wouldn't have had with a 'typical' college student.
    Tips for prospective students

    It's pretty easy to get in here. And everything is pretty well explained during the orientations. My advice would be to get involved in things and meet a lot of people. The school gets small fast! ;)
    Bang for the buck

    This school is super cheap considering that everything is under construction or brand new! The new buildings are really amazing. The dorms are pretty nice compared to other UW schools. We'll have a new dorm in a couple years! If you're considering UMD, just know that UW Superior has much better food than UMD and it's smaller, so it's easy to get help when you need it. Also, you can take classes at UMD or St Scholastica while staying enrolled at UWS!
    Am enjoying being here

    I won't lie, a lot of students go home, go hunting, or go out partying on the weekends. However, there are students who don't. Either way, there are all sorts of students here and lots of student organizations. Having Lake Superior and Duluth so close doesn't hurt! We also have GREAT study abroad programs for being a small school. I recently studied in Scotland for 100 days and the cost for the program was way cheaper than what my friends at bigger schools have to pay for similar programs. Plus, I got to live in a castle and meet amazing professors (both Scottish and American)! Check it out.
    Am learning a lot

    It's basically hit or miss at Superior. We have a lot of talented teachers, but we also have a lot of new teachers who are still learning their own style. So far, in my experience, I'd say we have great professors in the Music, Business, Computer Science, Math, and English departments.
