In three sentences A professional, friendly, flexible, but challenging graduate program and faculty. Administration and office staff are more than helpful and accommodating whether it be in financial aid, student accounting, iT etc. The large selection of primarily online programs makes USA one of the top ranked making education accessible and fitting for your life.

Though the caf is a downside, the education and teachers are amazing, they want you to succeed as much as you want to succeed. The school spirit is high and the students and faculty are really nice!

Categories Comments In three sentences The University of South Alabama’s campus is amazing, and very well kept while it’s tremendously huge. The staff and students that attend this college are all so polite and encouraging. Also, the entire college as a whole shows how much school spirit and enthusiasm is brought to life throughout the campus.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The mobile area has many fun things to do all around campus.but the best time is around Mardi gras the whole campus shuts down and how downtown to the many parades.
Food and Dining The dining hall is great they have a variety of foods from vegan to vegetarian. South also has Starbucks, chik fil a and Pizza hut on campus.
Dorm Life Dorm life is fun . My dorm held cook outs and roasted smores every Saturday almost. We also held little get together to talk and have fun. Dorms are also are close to all the activities on campus so you are never more than a 5-10 min walk away.
Academic Rigor The University of South Alabama expects you to show your best work and will push you to get there. However the professors will help you along the way.
Tips for prospective students Walk the campus before the first day of classes. Ebooks are your friends. Study weeks before a test not the day before and learn to love either coffee or energy drinks. A wind proof umbrella is essential mine flew away in a rain storm and I have never seen it again.
In three sentences The University of South Alabama is a great school in a fantastic area. The professors help you and really care if you succeed. There is a club or event for everyone so no one feels left out.

Categories Comments In three sentences Unfortunately for the students, the cafeteria at South is a sub par waste of money. The food is prepared in either two states; over salted and dry or no flavor. The caf, especially for being quite expensive, should be held to a higher standard; but since it exists to generate profit and nothing else, the students, such as myself, are left hungry and unsatisfied.

The university is located in the great city of Mobile right next to the beach! As a student I can say that this University strives hard to give each student the education they strive to obtain.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I hope to run around the track in my spare time, maybe play a little basketball or football.
Food and Dining I didn't see the cafe but I hope it has a healthy food choice. Im a little health freak.
Dorm Life The dorms looked pretty large and more than enough room for me.
Academic Rigor They have both of my majors, theatre and family therapy. I hope to get my degree and quickly as I can.
Tips for prospective students From the students that I saw, they seemed determined and ready for class.

Categories Comments Campus Safety South's campus safety is pretty good and I feel comfortable walking to classes at night.
Greek Life The Greek life seems pretty nice. Their parties are always on point! lol
What to do for fun Make friends and go out to the social events on-campus or hit the clubs downtown!
Food and Dining The Caf food is disgusting! Only thing is good is the omelets and fried chicken. I suggest eating at the Delta Deli or the food court at the Student Center. The food court have Chick-fil-A, Quiznos, Burger Studio, Pizza Hut, and Java City.
Dorm Life Currently, I live in New hall and I love it there! The amount of space I have is good and I have my own privacy. Sometimes its a little noisy but that's how college is. I encourage every freshman to apply for New Hall or Epsilon because the other dorms are not that great and there isn't really that many options of dorms to choose from.
Academic Rigor Just stay focus on your academics and get to know your professors. South offers great academic services for any student who needs assistance with their classes.
Tips for prospective students Get involved, bring rain boots, and get ready to study but also have a great time at South!
In three sentences University of South Alabama has a very beautiful campus and there is always something to do! Getting involved with organizations and clubs is important because you have the chance to met so many people and become exposed to a lot of things.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I usually hang out with my friends somewhere on campus. We have this AMAZING Recreation Center with courts, pools, and much more that we get into FOR FREE just for being students. They have various sitting areas around campus that we always hang out at when it's not raining. There's always something going on so if we ever get bored we just walk to the student center to see what's up. I'm also in a few clubs so I tend to keep busy. There is so many things to do, it feels like there it's endless fun.
Food and Dining The Caf is pretty horrible. I recommend having money put aside for you to buy food from a grocery store. On the other hand, we have a Chick-fil-a, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Burger Studio, and many other fast food places on campus if you're willing to spend money at them.
Dorm Life Dorm life is really fun. The RAs make your time staying in the dorms as eventful as they can and there's always a person with a football or baseball in hand who is ready to play sports with a group of people. Some of the dorms have a few maintenance problems, but other than that, it's a wondrous experience.
Academic Rigor The academics are phenomenal. The work is never too much yet it's not ridiculously easy either. The classes keep me on my toes and they teaching me what I feel like will be essential in my future career. The teachers are pretty awesome too. :)
Tips for prospective students Always stay on top of your school work. There is always something going on on campus which is a good thing, but some people fall behind because they put their school work to the side to go do these things. As long as you get your work done and work hard at it, you will enjoy your time here!!
In three sentences It is a really great school. The location is amazing and the faculty members are truly kind and caring. So far, it has been the one of the best experience of my life.

Food and Dining Once on a marching band trip, we visited USA and the cafe was great! We had waffles at noon, and then spaghetti! The varieties are great too.
Tips for prospective students Get it done early! Most things in life are First come, first serve so always be ahead of the game when applying here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel safe on campus despite the fact that we have an open campus; however, things can happen like at any other University. Nothing too bad has happened that I am aware of, but crime rates on campus have gone done in the recent years.
Greek Life Greek Life at South Alabama is flourishing. It is something I would recommend a student find out more information about getting involved in Greek Life.
Clubs and Activities USA has an array of clubs, organizations, and activities. If they do not have it, it can be started. I have found many organizations, activities, and clubs to be active in since I arrived on campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Junk the Jungle is a tradition that students started to get a football team on campus. Since then, it has been a tradition to roll the traffic circle during homecoming week.
Bang for the buck Definitely a best bang for your buck on education and activities. South Alabama has great facilities, events, and more that help with the college experience. The best overall bang for your buck in the college search.
What to do for fun Plenty of on campus activities going on throughout the week to attend and be a part of. In addition, Mobile has some pretty great events going on.
Food and Dining Campus dining is pretty good. The Fresh Food Dining Hall is great on most days; however, if you are disappointed, the campus offers Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A, Burger Studio, Pizza Hut Express, and other dining establishments to fit your needs. Plus not too far from other eateries off campus (some are within comfortable walking distances or short drive).
Dorm Life I like the dorm life on campus. I have been able to connect with people through residential life. The residence halls are not bad at all.
Academic Rigor Academics on campus is hardcore; however, they want you to learn and succeed.
Tips for prospective students Be involved on campus! Find an organization that you are interested in that has to so with your major or interests in order to connect with people socially and academically.
In three sentences The University of South Alabama is a university of excellence! I love the University of South Alabama because of its home-like atmosphere, friendly faces, and superb academics. It is a great place to study, live, and soar.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The Student Center, which is also one of South's newest facilities, is a great dining place. In the food court, they have something for everyone such as sushi to Chik-fil-A. The caf has some food that is okay. The caf is not my favorite place to eat because the food is not always the best, the lines are way too long at times, and I do not enjoy the atmosphere as much.
Dorm Life The dorm life here on campus is for the most part, pretty good. I currently stay in one the newest dorm at South and I love it. Majority of the time, everyone respects everyone by keeping the noise down. In the dorm that I stay in, we have a thing called Quiet Hours which is a time where there can be no disturbing noise from 8 p.m. - 8 a.m.
Academic Rigor The classes here at South can be tedious depending on your teacher, but this school offers a great deal of help to anyone who may be struggling in a particular subject. If you are a student that does their work, pays attention in class, and actually participates, the teachers will be more willing to help you. When entering college, one must remember that no one here is going to baby you so it is up to the student to get the help that they need if they're struggling with something. Of course the classes are going to be harder than some in high school, but this college so that should already be expected.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in the activities that are going on around campus. Typically, the people that say that South is boring are the ones who rarely participate in anything that the school has going on. Be prepared for HOT weather. Mobile is one hot place so in the summer time and spring time, make sure to drink lots of water and wear shorts!
In three sentences South Alabama has a beautiful campus and an overall great atmosphere. For the most part, the campus has some really nice people who are always willing to help whether they know you or not. In my opinion, the University of South Alabama is one of the best schools in Alabama, but tends to get over-looked because of UA and AU.

Food and Dining Cannot comment
Dorm Life Cannot comment
Academic Rigor I cannot comment personally, as I have yet to attend. However, my friend is already attending and says it is a challenging school.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to stay in contact with an adviser or an admissions help. They will make sure you complete everything needed.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The food is fantastic in every way. Although, you will gain a lot of pounds if you don't exercise. However, the University provides a meal plan to help maintain your weight.
Dorm Life I was at a campus tour in the University. One of the tour guides said that their dorms are awesome but in general, dorm rooms are like lockers. You don't want to spend too much time in your dorm room.
Academic Rigor I say the University can help a lot with my major, Meteorology, since it's right off the gulf. I feel like I'll have everything I need to be a meteorologist in the University of South Alabama.
Tips for prospective students Make a schedule for everything that will help you succeed in the far future of education, jobs, and your career. Be involve in many extra curricular activities. Also, be a well-liked person.
In three sentences Yellow brick road to your future. It can be another vacation since some parents call the University of South Alabama a resort since the campus looks really nice.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I'm not certain about this, but I have never felt threatened on campus.
Great for these types of students Great for students who enjoy the scenery of flowers. For students who want to be challenged in the sciences. Also, for students who want to see ethnic diversity on campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They have an annual volleyball tournament all in the mud! Everyone comes out really to get muddy.
What to do for fun There are many things to do for fun. Clubs are always putting on events and parties and there are a lot of student discounts like getting $5 movie tickets for the Carmike theater when they cost $10.50. I also got to see Skillet and Third Day in concert on campus at the Mitchell Center for a discounted price as well. There's always something going on somewhere.
Food and Dining The food is better at the beginning of the school year.
Academic Rigor Be ready to work, but as long as you stay on top of things, it should be fine.
Tips for prospective students Having a car isn't necessary to get around to classes. Get started with working with professors early in the year and don't wait.
In three sentences I think the University of South Alabama is a great university. It gives students plenty of opportunities to get involved in different sciences. The professors I have come in contact with have all been willing to help students who are willing to try.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus During homecoming week, there a special activities each day of the week. Some days you wear a specific color, another day you wear jaguar print, but the best tradition is junking the jungle. There is a circular area of land the is the heart of the campus. Each year this jungle is junked by toilet paper and other biodegradable papers. Don't worry, the debris is cleaned up the next weekend. It is absolutely fun and celebratory.
What to do for fun The SGA has many planned activities every week. They include a campus block party, skating rink party, paint an glowing party, weekly food gatherings, and even laser tag. Many sororities and fraternities have many activities on the campus. Several nearby restaurants have discounts for South students to enjoy.
Food and Dining South has a new dining facility that is nothing less than divine. They have so many different options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The facility caters to greasy-fry lovers and healthy eaters. They dining hall is very spacious and includes a coffee shop on the bottom.
Dorm Life The best part of dorm life is being so close to other students, You can make many new friends just by walking out your door. South has many great R.A. that will go above and beyond their duties to help students. They also create many activities to win prizes, eat free food, and make friends.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at South is tough but fair. Many courses will present to you exactly what you expect from them. As your class status increases, more an more courses include more information that is wonderful to know. If you attend class regularly and study day by day, then you will do great.
Tips for prospective students 1. Get to know your campus and the names of buildings. 2. Get to know your professors on a closer level. It will benefit you in the long run. 3. Be an active student. Join a club or 2! 4. Have fun, but remember that school comes first. 5. Going to class can be hard, nut remember it's your money.
In three sentences The campus of South Alabama is a true southern experience. You may need rain boots and an umbrella along with your textbooks, but the campus offers so much in return. There are numerous clubs, organizations, and groups to become involved in. Being an active student is very simple and should be taken advantage of.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Cops are out always, so don't do anything stupid.
Greek Life Greek Life is interesting. If you plan on joining one, let it be something you really want to do and let it fit your budget.
Clubs and Activities There are over 200+ clubs and organizations on campus to get involved in.
What to do for fun The Wynnsong Theater is around he corner, as well as a lot of restaurants. Sports events happen all the time, and we definitely could use more school spirit. Football and Basketball games are ALWAYS fun. Go Jags!
Food and Dining I will say that the food at the dining hall gives you a variety of healthy foods and not so healthy foods. It is up to you to choose what is best for you. A lot of new students being away from home gain the freshmen 15. Don't be one of those guys. The dining hall sales great food, but don't take advantage of it.
Dorm Life Dorm life at South can be very rewarding and fun all at the same time. Dorms are close by the dining hall and Delta Deli, so you will never go hungry. The intramural fields are right behind the dorms. Living on campus makes it a lot easier for you to get to your classes. Driving times aren't until after 1:45 pm so you'll have to walk to your morning classes but everything is close and nearby.
Academic Rigor South has a very challenging course work, but with any school you will have your hard classes and your easy classes. It all depends on how you apply yourself and how much you ask for help. Every major has different prerequisites, but everyone will have to take the basic courses which are pretty easy.
Tips for prospective students If you are thinking about heading to South for school, I would say that you should pick a school not because of it's mascot or because of it's athletic system. South is a school that genuinely cares about it's students academic achievement. Look at some of the past alumni who have graduated from South. Also, South gives out amazing scholarships for new students.
In three sentences University of South Alabama is a great academic school with awesome school spirit and caring teachers. South has a beautiful campus which is protected by great law enforcements and a wonderful walking trails. No other school that cares about their students academic achievement.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I think there should be more call boxes and street lamps around campus; however, if you ever feel threatened, the campus police will come and pick you up any time of the day and take you where you need to go.
Clubs and Activities There's about everything. Anyone can find a group to fit in. There's clubs for majors, minors, hobbies, traditions, ethnic groups, etc. And they all have a pretty good time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Oozeball. I've never done it, but I will. It's volleyball in a few feet of mud. Quidditch. It's a real intramural team! They're pretty good I hear. Junk the Jungle. Every homecoming, all the students teepee the traffic circle.
Bang for the buck This university is one of the most affordable in the area. I think even the country. You get everything you want in an education, a friendly atmosphere, individual attention, great amenities and services, and a thriving surrounding area all wrapped up in one. The price is just the pretty bow that ties it all together.
What to do for fun Get discount tickets for the movies! They're only $5 for any movie, any time of day. Also there are a lot of free things to do around campus. Check your e-mail; people are always hosting something fun. Join clubs! Giving back to the community through clubs and organizations can be really rewarding. They look good on your resume, too. Stay active at the gym! I love the gym here. Indoor lap pool, rock wall, fitness classes, racquetball, and about all the cardio and strength equipment anyone could want.
Food and Dining I think the food is pretty good. The dining hall always changes the menu and you can always find something to eat. The only downside to that is the employees aren't always so happy or friendly. The student center has Chic-fil-a, Quiznos, Burger Studio, and Pizza Hut. There's also a Java City, two Starbucks, and two Einstein Bagel Bros. on campus.
Dorm Life The nicer dorms are really nice and pretty expensive. But if you can afford them, they are the best. Ex: Stokes, New Residence
Academic Rigor Some classes are easier than others. Some teachers give less work than others. I think it's a nice balance. Overall, it's very stimulating.
Tips for prospective students Don't bring a car if you don't have to. Parking sucks. Don't live in Delta 6. If you can, live in Stokes, New Residence Hall, or Epsilon. Bring a laptop and a printer! There are computer labs, but a lot of coursework and homework is online, and you don't want to spend all day in the lab. Don't buy too many bonus bucks on your meal plan. You don't really need them, but it's nice to have some. Talk to your advisors often. Don't get too caught up in the party scene.
In three sentences South Alabama is a diamond in the rough. You really get individual attention here, and the educational opportunities are abundant. Everyone wants you to do well.

Greek Life The Greek life is good. Most of the people are very nice and not stuck up jerks!
Clubs and Activities There is endless clubs and organizations! Join one!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus During homecoming EVERYTHING gets tee peed.
Bang for the buck The school is not as expensive as most schools, but it still stinks to have to pay a lot of money for school.
What to do for fun There is always something going on in the Mitchell Center, from basketball games to concerts, South has a lot to do!
Food and Dining The cafe usually has pretty good food. There is always a variety, even for vegetarians. But of course, some days it is not so good.
Dorm Life The dorms are very nice and well kept. The only downside is the price. It is on the expensive side.
Academic Rigor The classes I am taking are challenging. On the plus side, most teachers will do anything in their power to help you understand a concept. Tutoring is always available also.
Tips for prospective students BE IN A CLUB. Do something! It is very easy to make friends here you just have to put yourself out there!
In three sentences I absolutely love South. I am in the Jaguar Marching Band and it has been nothing but fun. The teachers are very one on one and the student life is great here.

Categories Comments Food and Dining There is a variety of choices for on-campus food and dining. We have our student center that houses Chik-fi-la, Burger Studio, Pizza hut, and Quiznos. They are great to stop by and have a quick lunch. We also have our main dining facility, Fresh Food Company serving breakfast lunch and dinner.
Dorm Life The Residence Housing Association works hard to ensure that every resident has a great experience with dorm life. There is a RA(resident advisor) on each hall to assist with problems as well as 24 hour maintenance. The dorms are spacious and are in close proximity to the dining hall and academic buildings.
Academic Rigor The academics at South Alabama are great. Each department has academic advisors set aside for each student. From experience they ensure that you are on track with your courses and intended graduation date.

Dorm Life I currently live in a dorm room and I love it. All the dorm buildings here are super nice, and the best thing is that there are no community bathrooms or showers! There are FREE laundry facilities in almost every dorm building so that is a huge plus.
Academic Rigor College is a lot more difficult than high school because you are on your own and do not have anyone telling you to go to class or do your homework. I love all my teachers here that I have had so far. They have all been nice and friendly and are willing to help you if you need it.
Tips for prospective students The campus is huge, so it is a good thing to bring a bike! Also, make sure you find where your classes are before the first day, it will help you out a lot!

Categories Comments What to do for fun This campus presents so many organizations and clubs! Also there is a rock wall and a pool. There are multiple open, group exercise classes.
Food and Dining If you like fastfood, the food court at the bookstore is for you, but it's expensive. The cafe presents foods that aren't very good, and the service is not great at all.
Dorm Life Constant car alarms, people knocking on your door for no apparent reason. The dorms are nice, but the living environment is not.
Academic Rigor Summer classes are pretty easy, but the math classes are killer.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you don't settle for whatever the advisor tells you. When you go to set up your classes, have in mind what you want to take, and don't be swayed. Do make sure you meet the requirements for your major though.
In three sentences The University of South Alabama brings an excellent variety of classes and majors to the table. Food and Dining DELICIOUS!
Dorm Life Dorms are nice and cozy, and very accessible.
Academic Rigor The class sizes are smaller than most, so there is more one on one teaching.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Police are on the ball. They are out 24/7 helping people find their way around campus to other things as well. Though no body's perfect they do have their flaws. But I have always felt safe on campus.
What to do for fun There is always something going on at South Alabama. Whether the Ra's put on a movie night or Jaguar Productions has something free and fun for everyone. From musicians to comedians to ventriloquism, they have had it all. We also have an amazing athletic department which includes Tennis, Volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, track, soccer, and football, as well as the Rec center where we have an indoor and outdoor pool that are both heated, so you can swim ANYTIME in the year. And the best part is that it's FREE for students!
Food and Dining South Alabama has multiple places to eat on campus. Whether you go to the cafe and sometimes get a good meal, or you are running a little late and grab a bagel or a fresh made sandwich from Java city, Starbucks, or Einstein's Bagel.
Dorm Life I think you should definitely live on campus your first year. You will make the best of friends and its way easier to get everywhere you need to go if you are living in the dorms. You will find that most of your classmates live on campus as well, so you can have a study party in each others rooms.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you know where your classes are on the first day. I always walk the grounds a day or two in advance so I am sure I wont be late my first day of class. Also, don't be afraid to ask your teachers for help. They are wonderful and will not bit your head off when you ask them a question. They love for you to make office hours with them so they can help you more.
In three sentences South Alabama is an Amazing school. The student to teacher ratio is very small so you get the one on one time you need with all your teachers. It is the perfect school for those who need extra attention in class. Although campus my look big it only takes you 5 minutes to walk anywhere and everywhere you need to go. They also have buses that goes from the dorms to other buildings as well. It is the perfect school, in my opinion!

Great for these types of students Students who just want to get a degree and get out. Not great for those who actually want to learn.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The bell tower is pretty unusual. It's a nice place to chill with friends.
Bang for the buck Tuition is pretty expensive, but having access to resources such as the rec center and the library are pretty well worth it.
What to do for fun Go to the rec center and play basketball, work out, play racquetball, rock climb, swim, among other things. Go to the intramural fields. Hang out with people around campus.
Tips for prospective students If you want to be a nurse or anything in the medical field, South is a good school. Also, the engineering and computer science programs are pretty good. Get out and join organizations and clubs. People won't reach out to you; you have to reach out for them.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Homecoming week is a lot of fun, there are events every evening leading up to the big game.
What to do for fun Jag Productions, a club on campus, usually has an event every week or so. They are free and fun.
Food and Dining Beware of monotony- the cafeteria has a lot of the same foods. It can get repetitive.
Dorm Life The dorm are so much nicer than the other schools I have visited. Even the smallest dorms are more spacious and have more privacy than you would expect.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging, but the teachers will help you if you care about your grade. Get to know your professors!
Tips for prospective students Consider going Greek! They are not what a lot of media makes them out to be, and it's a great way to expand your social network and really get involved on campus. Also, make sure you check that you have all of your forms in order. Always check for things you need to do, especially with Financial Aid.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This school seems to have major crime problems very year. Overall, I feel very safe of campus, but once a year a major crime event seems to happen.
Greek Life I really can not say much about Greek like because I am not a Greek.
Clubs and Activities South Alabama has dozens of clubs but the ones I have tried to join didn't seem to be doing much. (environmental club, LBGT, International Friends club, sociology club} BUT South Alabama's intramural sports is really fun. Intramural sports includes rugby, flag football, soccer, baseball, and volleyball, and even frisbee.
Great for these types of students I have heard South Alabama's nursing facility is one of the best in the region!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus South Alabama campus has swamps that have alligators in them! Oh, South Alabama also has foosball every spring which is volleyball played in waist deep mud! any one can join and the winning team gets like 1000 dollars.
Bang for the buck Living on campus your first semester is definitely worth the extra money if you are considering trying to save money by living off campus.
What to do for fun The rec center is a great place to go for fun. The rec center has a rock climbing wall, smoothie shop, and plenty of exercise machines. Also, the local downtown in Mobile is said to better than what Tuscaloosa (UA) has to offer.
Food and Dining Really nice cafeteria, really crappy food. BUT, you should still live on campus at least your freshman year :)
Dorm Life The dorms are fun. Many of the dorms on campus have been renovated.
Academic Rigor Most of the classes are easy. Study and do your homework and you will pass with all A's and B's. Some classes are so easy you do not have to even go to them.
Tips for prospective students I only recommend South Alabama for people majoring in the medical field. I have heard many complaints from engineering and computer systems majors. Also, it may be better to earn an arts degree from a more ranked university.
In three sentences South Alabama is growing into a beautiful campus. The academic quality does not seem to be growing as fast. Your money is probably better spent at Alabama or Auburn.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is so much you can do on campus. Hang out with friends, do one of the many free on campus activities or free off campus activities, go to one of the sports games, go to the rec center, go to the mall, play disc golf, take a walk, explore down town, go to a club, join a sport, or anything else. There are endless possibilities.
Food and Dining There are a lot of food options here. Eating at the caf is the typical thing to do and the food isn't that bad. They always have a great salad bar, pizza, and sub sandwiches. The other stations switch the food up. Other than that there is a chick-a-fila, Quiznos, Burger Studios, Pizza Hut, Delta Deli, Java City, and Starbucks to choose from as well as many off campus restaurants. I know the Waffle House on Old Shell road gives a 10% student discount.
Dorm Life Dorms are difficult to say the least. I've switched roommates twice this year because we were not compatible. Deciding where you fit in is difficult. Some if the dorms are a little more loud. You need to decide early whether you want a roommate or not. Get to know them an if you find that you won't get along then don't stick it out. The people is housing are really nice and they will help you find the perfect room for you.
Academic Rigor Depending on the teacher you get, classes can be really easy or really hard. As long as you study then you can easily make good grades. Don't get distracted by the freedom or friends. Stick to you classes because those friends aren't going to support you when you can't get a job because you hardly passed your classes.
Tips for prospective students Apply for housing early so you can get the dorm you want. Don't get the unlimited meals unless you actually plan on eating 10 times a day. The 15 meals a week is a cheaper choice. You get $250 jag bucks with it which is really all you need. Especially if you don't eat much anyways. Always go to class. Some teachers give extra points to your final grade if you come to class everyday. Yes they do take attendance. Study the material everyday because you don't have many tests so you really need to know the material! And always leave early for class if you are taking the jag trans. They aren't the fastest way to class.
In three sentences The school has great staff. The food here is decent. Everything this is close to campus.

Categories Comments What to do for fun They have parties every now and then, but other than that there really isn't anything to do for fun.
Food and Dining The food is okay during the day. But when it is late at night and you get hungry and want a snack, the only place on campus that is open is the Delta Deli. They don't never have their entire menu and everything is a little bit expensive.
Dorm Life I really don't care too much for the residence halls that are affordable. There isn't much storage room or any room at all on your side of the room.
Tips for prospective students For future students, I would advise you to make sure that you bring extra storage bins for your room. Also, bring your own microwavable food, snacks and drinks.
In three sentences This is a very nice University. I love being here, but there are a few problems that I have with the campus. I wish the resident halls were so much better and had way more storage in the rooms. Also, more vending machines around campus that can be accessible late at night.

Greek Life There are various Greek Life houses to join.
Clubs and Activities They have a club for everyone to belong to.
Great for these types of students The best part of USA, everyone has a place.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The most unusual tradtion to me on campus is the rolling of circle drive. During USA Homecoming week, students get together and roll the circle drive. I dont know why we do it, but hey its fun.
Bang for the buck Tuition is fairly expensive if you choose to live on campus, but it covers everything on campus: rec center membership, free access to games, meal plans, it covers a lot.
What to do for fun There is always activities going on campus, from games to parties. There is also a state of the art recreation center where you can swim, rock climb, play ping pong, basket ball, volley ball. There is always something fun going on, thanks the Jaguar Productions. Truly awesome.
Food and Dining Students can choose to eat at the Cafeteria on campus, which cooks good food, or to eat at the fast food places offered (Chikfila, Pizza hut, ect.)
Dorm Life The dorms are great! I absolutely love them.
Academic Rigor Classes are fairly easy, but it also challenges students to put forth an effort on their part. Which is good, it's not a free grade.
Tips for prospective students Some tips I would offer: 1. Get involved. Not getting involved with campus life is one of the few things you'll regret. Joining clubs on campus not only helps you meet new people, it also looks good on resumes for future jobs. 2. Make the most out of class/study time. You will always have time to hang with friends and family, so there should be no reason to skip classes. They will come back to bite you in the butt. Also, get involved in the classroom. It impresses teachers and you actually learn stuff. 3. Don't take on huge loans. Biggest mistake most students make. Loans are good in moderation. try to take as little as possible, or you'll end up in major debt.
In three sentences This campus is amazing! Not only is the academic opportunities in great abundance, but the campus life and student benefits offered are truly splendid. If you enjoy getting involved on campus and making the best out of your college experience, USA is the college you need to go to.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never had an issue personally, but there are reports of people living on campus that have caused disturbances. The police are quick to handle these situations and I understand these issues will happen at any university. I wouldn't live on campus though.
Great for these types of students Great for all types.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I haven't experienced any of these as of yet.
Bang for the buck Personally, the activity center would sell me on the school alone. However, all teachers I have had have been clear and really know what they teach. This makes learning easier and more fun!
What to do for fun The gym is amazing. I love the indoor pool for exercise and the hot tub to relax my muscles. There is a sauna, rock gym, whirlpool, etc. I absolutely love the activity center!
Food and Dining Love the food selection.
Dorm Life I have never lived on campus but I do know the crime rate is high recently. The campus police do what they can and are quick to respond though.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been a few security issues, but every campus is at risk for danger. With these circumstances, things are fairly mellow.
Greek Life I am personally not involved, but I wanted to be. The Greek life at USA is a fun time. They have many events and you have an opportunity to meet many people.
Clubs and Activities The university has over 200 clubs and organizations, so you are sure to find something you are interested in.
Great for these types of students This school is great for hardworking, determined students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every year during Homecoming week, the Jags get together and Junk the Jungle, USA's traffic circle trees. The Student Center and the Library are also great places to go, but most people hang out in the recently renovated dining hall.
Bang for the buck This depends on how long you are there. If you work hard and get out within a reasonable amount, the money is not bad at all. You have to be careful to know what you are required to have in order to graduate, so you do not take unnecessary classes.
What to do for fun Get involved in intramural sports, go out to a movie, or go to the beach (which is only about an hour and a half away.) You can go Greek, get involved in clubs, and check out Jaguar Productions. They give you discounted tickets to stuff all around the city, and $5 movie tickets!
Food and Dining The food is great. They have an all you can eat buffet in the dining hall for $8, and if you live on campus it is included in your meal plan. There are other restaurants that are not affiliated with the university, such as Einstein Brothers and Chick-fil-A.
Dorm Life I wouldn't know much about dorm life, because I don't live on campus, but from what I hear it is a lot of fun!
Academic Rigor This rating is due to the science and higher level math classes. With hard work, however, you can accomplish anything.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend reading, keeping up with the syllabus, going to class, and working hard. I would also advise having fun. These years will be the best of your life, so take all you can get!
In three sentences USA is a great school, whether you are out of state or right next door. Most of the professors try to do all they can to help you succeed and if you work hard, you can accomplish anything here. The classes are a great atmosphere.

Clubs and Activities There will be something for anyone here, from arts to sports and everything in between, they have tons of clubs.
Bang for the buck One of the best deals you are going to find in the south.
Food and Dining The new dinning hall is so cool!
Tips for prospective students Stay in the freshman dorms your first year, however tempting living off campus may be, these freshman dorms are great! When I visited them they didnt feel like the typical dorm, and staying in the dorms is a great way to get social your first year.
In three sentences When you visit the University of South Alabama you can tell that it is a growing community. If you want a college set up on a beautiful campus that is constantly growing this is the place for you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Honestly, people are starting to get scared of the USAPD. We had a freshman pass, because a cop shot him (of course there was reasoning).
Clubs and Activities Theres clubs alright!
What to do for fun OVER 200 ORGANIZATIONS and different fun places outside of campus too.
Food and Dining The cafeteria has its good days and bad. The student center has Chik fil a, Burger Studio, Quiznos and Pizza Hut. I love it! The Delta deli is where you can get a meal and buy snacks, thats good too.
Dorm Life I live in the freshman dorms and its been a good experience so far. I love the environment and getting to know others.
Academic Rigor Some of the professors I have are VERY helpful and patient. As far as the way things are taught isn't a thumbs up. It seems as every class is becoming an 'online' course. Classes can be in a classroom, but then you may have actual work online.
Tips for prospective students Stay true to yourself. Dont get in trouble, because it can end up in a cost to pay (literally). If you have a car, be careful where you park.
In three sentences The University of South Alabama is a great school to be yourself. It has a great environment and many different things that go on around campus. It also has opportunities for people to be known and do good deeds.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Sports events are always good. There are weekly get togethers every month. The new receation center is always a good place to workout and meet new people. These are just a few things however.
Food and Dining The dining is alright the food is well served, however the hours of the dining serves are too short they don't go late into the night for those students who work late or study late.
Dorm Life Dorms are a little below average, however South is constructing new dorms which seems to be more promising the old dorm facilities. Side Note: Don't expect for dorm life to be quiet on the weekdays beccause everyone is studying.
Academic Rigor Many of the programs aren't easy. For example, I am a civil engineering major sure it is going to be tough for me because I take math but I am taking other courses that are as equally challenging as math.
Tips for prospective students Do not expect to come here and for it to be easy just because it is South. Teachers will push you because they expect the best out of their students.
In three sentences Good university. Small compared to others, but is rapidly growing compared to others in the surrounding region. Good for low cost out of state tuition.

Dorm Life I like the ease of getting to class without the hassle of parking. The rooms come with refrigerators and free laundry! That's good!

Greek Life I am not considered a Greek but I was in a co-ed business frat which helped me better my business skills. The Greek life here is somewhat big but i do not prefer living that life because it separates you from the other interesting students that attend South.
Clubs and Activities South has almost any club you can imagine. They have a rock climbing club, gerontology club, key club and many others.
Bang for the buck This is my third year attending South and I love it. I am planning on graduating here. South is fun when you find the right people to hang out with and the right things to do.
What to do for fun The flea market on the weekends is a great experience. Various items are sold their at an affordable price. I get all of my fruits and vegetables for the week at the flea market. They also sell clothes, pets, sunglasses, furniture and almost anything you can imagine.

Academic Rigor Most of the professors aim for a great learning experience, especially the Anthropology program
Tips for prospective students Visit the rock climbing wall at the rec center:)
In three sentences South Alabama is a great University because it is not a big party school; parties are typically found only on the weekends. Most of the professors I have taken classes from love the subject they are teaching which makes learning more interesting, especially in subjects that are not appealing. South could be boring if you do not like to branch out and find activities to do for yourself.

Greek Life Greek life is awesome! As a former greek member I of course can say that I have lots of upperhand experience. They have study hours that you are required to meet so therefore they want you to do good in school and also succeed. They have tons of swaps, and philanthropic projects which help put time and effort towards a good cause. You get to do all of these fun things while benefitting yourself and also others. Plus the bonding of sisterhood or brotherhood is well worth it. It literally is like your family away from home!
Clubs and Activities Like to play sports? There are a ton of intramural sports to get involved in every semester. Also there are fun groups in every department to join so you will definitely be able to find something in your major to join!
Bang for the buck It is very expensive to go to school here, you will definitely be paying back loans for a while, but overall it is worth it. You get what you pay for! A lot of knowledge is to come from it.
What to do for fun There are a lot of campus activities happening weekly and alot of group organizations and intramural sports to play. Also don't forget about the awesome new rec. center.

Bang for the buck Very reasonable priced among quality colleges, and the focus really seems to be the student, not just the profit. Lots of support and encouragement.
What to do for fun There are tons of emails that seem like campus life is pretty busy with an incredible amount of opportunities to get involved. Again, I live off campus and take classes online, but there are constant announcements of activities, concerts, group meetings, clubs, etc...

Categories Comments Campus Safety We've had a few issues with safety but honestly, what school hasn't? What I can say is that we are continuously working to do better in keeping our students, faculty, and staff safe while on campus.
Greek Life The Greek life at USA is sooo exciting! All Greek organizations, Panhellenic and Non-Panhellenic, are active in the community and on campus. They enjoy being a sisterhood/brotherhood and they encourage others who have that same mindset to do the same.
Clubs and Activities There is an endless list of different clubs and activities to do on campus. I was on the dance team my freshman year and will also be on it my 2nd year. Along with that, I am apart of 4 different clubs just for me. Enjoy playing football but can't play for the universities team? You can join the intramural team. And hey, even if there isn't a club you don't connect with, you are more than willing to make your own!!
Bang for the buck The university may be a little costly, but I believe it's all worth it in the end.
What to do for fun There are MANY different things to do for fun at USA, from attending sports events, parties, and club functions to swimming in the outside pool of the new rec center. Sometimes, there are even movies shown in the yard of the dorms with a projector and a big flat screen. If you have any fun ideas you are always able to present them.
Food and Dining The cafeteria was new when I first got to USA so that wasn't an issue. The food was actually great. There was a variety of choices and they served something new and fresh each day.
Dorm Life Honestly, I stayed in the oldest dorms on campus. They weren't the best but I managed. I decorated and kept it tidy and clean. I had to keep in mind that I was living there for a complete year. Where I slept was also where I ate sometimes and studied. It stayed clean and I enjoyed it! Also, living on campus my freshman year was probably the best decision I could have made.
Academic Rigor Although college is a great experience, it's not all fun and games. Academically, USA was challenging at times depending on the level of classes I was taking. However, as long as I studied hard I was able to do well. I finished my freshman year with an excellent GPA and I plan on maintaining it.
Tips for prospective students What you put into college is what you get out of it-being involved, meeting new people, and making yourself known is basically the most important thing you can do when in college. Get out there and show your face and you never know, a professor you may have now might be the person to help you get your dream job later!! And remember, college is an experience. Some of your greatest years will be spent at the university of your choice. Live it up but remember your goals, as well.
In three sentences The University of South Alabama (USA) is a university meant to not only build students into successful doctors, teachers, lawyers, etc. but to also mend them into successful people. The environment will make you feel at home, the professors will treat you with kindness, and your peers will encourage you to do your best. I am going into my second year attending USA and I am absolutely loving it!

Categories Comments What to do for fun Many fun sporting events to go through that are all located on campus except for jaguar football which is a short drive away.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is brand new and super nice but like any cafeteria it can get old quickly and the quality sometimes leaves much to be desired. However the around campus places to eat include the Delta Deli, Einstein brothers, Chick fil al, Pizza hut, Quiznos, and Burger Studio all great places to go.
Dorm Life Many activities to do at the dorms the RA's make it really fun for all of the students living on campus with lots of fun activities to get involved in. Great place to get to know fellow classmates.
Academic Rigor It is a great school with mostly great professors, if you work hard and the teacher can see that they will usually give you the benefit of the doubt. This isnt Harvard so you work hard and your report card will reflect that big time!

Dorm Life They are okay. I prefer to live off campus without rules and it is easier to cope.
Academic Rigor They challenge your learning they just don't teach you what you need to know they go over and beyond to make sure you know everything.
Tips for prospective students No matter where you are getting your money from for your education, you are paying money for it and should take your education seriously. If you are considering going to this school be prepared to work because this is not a party school by no means.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is great. I feel safe a majority of the time that I am on campus. However, wherever you go there will be crime that's just the way of life. I personally believe it depends on the company you keep so keep that in mind.
Great for these types of students This college is great for students who like to walk or ride the jagtrans. It's your preference. The campus is beautiful and kind of big, but the classroom size for most classes are typically 20-30 students.
Bang for the buck You will definitely get your bag for your buck here. The instructors will give you an education that matches the tuition prices.
What to do for fun There are a lot of activities to do here for fun that can get you involved in the campus life. This really isn't a party school, so if you're looking for that type of college this is not the college for you! lol.
Food and Dining Food here is decent. Some of the items they have are to die for. It can be a bit routine, but if you're hungry you'll eat what they have lol.
Dorm Life I don't know much about the dorm life since I lived off campus but it's fairly nice depending on where you're staying. Also they're in the process of building new dorms so maybe we'll have something to look forward to.
Academic Rigor Some of the courses I took here were very challenging and some weren't. It all depends on you and your study habits. You have to be determined and dedicated to come out with an A in most classes here. Most teachers give the grades that are deserved.
Tips for prospective students If you ever have a question about anything, don't be embarrassed to ask. The staff, faculty, and MOST students are more than willing to help. Most freshman classes also come with FREE tutors so take advantage of that when you need it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Distance learning graduate students who are driven, hard-working, and committed, but need flexibility.
Bang for the buck Price for value is one of the major reasons I chose to apply and attend USA. Per credit hour cost for graduate classes online, the breakout is not much more than I would be paying for in-state tuition at the local big-name U.
Food and Dining Not living or eating here. I cook my own food, when my beloved spouse isn't. :)
Dorm Life Not living on-campus - not attending classes on-campus, and I'm a graduate student who is married and has two kids. Dorm life is way in my past. Can't speak about it.
Academic Rigor The standards of USA are second to none, and every prof I've dealt with has been a PhD. Accreditation matters, too - and it's here.
Tips for prospective students If you choose a distance learning option as I have, be self-motivated, work hard, study hard, and be disciplined. Online classes are harder, not easier, than traditional classes, IMO - but they do offer much more flexibility!
In three sentences An excellent option for those who need the convenience of distance learning with the challenge of a true university-based education. USA offers both academic rigor and flexibility in graduate education for working professionals. Working in a college town in a different state, I had several options; I chose USA over the school with the famous reptile mascot for a number of reasons, but mostly because it was the best fit for me.

Dorm Life Dorm life is very nice at South Alabama. The dorms actually have rooms with tutors for students who might need some extra help in certain classes so that you dont have to travel far for help.
Academic Rigor The classes are fairly easy until you get into your upper level courses because by the time you get there the teachers expect you to know what they are teaching and will not review any past information.

Dorm Life South, in my opinion, has some of the nicest and biggest dorms around.
Academic Rigor Many professors require attendance and will take points away from your grade after you miss so many classes.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in activities around campus to meet new people and always ask other students or professors for help if you need it.
In three sentences South has an incredibly beautiful campus that continues to evolve every year. The professors are very encouraging and want the students to succeed. And many activities are offered on campus for students to be involved in.

Categories Comments What to do for fun In Mobile, AL there are tons of things to do for fun. There are bowling allys, pool halls, restuarants all over the place. For those that are 21 and up there are some bars that are fun to go to. There are museums, parks, theaters, etc. What would you like to do?? Also, the gulf beaches are only an hour away.
Food and Dining I don't generally eat on campus but when I have the food was very good.
Dorm Life I don't live in a dorm.
Academic Rigor These classes can kick your butt if you don't stay on top of things so don't let yourself get behind.
Tips for prospective students Plan your classes carefully, you don't want a super heavy load in one semester if you don't have to do it. When your professor says, Let me know if you need extra help. do it. Enjoy yourself.
In three sentences The education you receive at USA is top-notch, when you leave you can truly say you know why, when, how, what, where, and to what extent. The professors will go out of their way to make sure the student is getting everything they need out of the class. The campus is awesome.. it is large enough to have quiet time yet still always active with students buzzing about.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Excellent police department, relatively enclosed campus, great area.
Greek Life Full fraternity and sorority row with their own houses. Students can drink at these organization's parties. They are the only events alcohol is allowed at on campus.
Clubs and Activities Lots of campus groups, and Jaguar Productions has lots of free events for students to participate in.
Great for these types of students Serious and need based students. Not a party school at all.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Junk the jungle - the trees get TP'd for homecoming week. Also, we have oozeball every year where volleyball is played in several feet of mud. Also, Mardi Gras started in Mobile and is celebrated downtown every year.
Bang for the buck Cheapest University in the state with some of the nicest facilities.
What to do for fun Mobile is a great city, and the birthplace of Mardi Gras which lasts for a month each year. We also have the beaches 45 minutes away and New Orleans 2.5 hours away.
Food and Dining Brand new cafeteria serves above average food.
Dorm Life Lots of people live in dorms on campus, you won't be lonely. New dorms currently being built.
Academic Rigor Not too hard to pass, but by no means an easy school. You will be challenged if you want to be challenged, but if all you want is to pass that is possible too.
Tips for prospective students Don't drink on campus, and if you must, do it quietly and discreetly. Mobile is a great town, explore the sights and independent businesses. Don't rely on finding a parking spot, one of the few problems on campus.
In three sentences Growing school with excellent new facilities. Dry campus with strict police enforcement. Public school with lowest tuition in Alabama.

Dorm Life I hope to be able to live on campus next year. My friends love it. What to have that experience.
Academic Rigor You will have to work. Everything is better when you work for it.
Tips for prospective students Be focused. It took me along time to do this. When I did, I saw where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do with my live
In three sentences I give USA a 10 out of 10. College has really opened my eyes and heart to a wonderful future. This is the place where I will become the best me!

Categories Comments What to do for fun Downtown mobile has everything. There are clubs, movies, concerts, and other events. Also Mardi Gras is down here.
Food and Dining The food at school is great and we also save our bonus bucks from lunch and buy other thing s like books or go to other places and dine.
Dorm Life South Alabama has new dorms called Stokes Hall. These dorms give you your own room and one bathroom you have to share with your roomate. Also South Alabama has living communities programs where you stay on the same floor that other students share the same field of study with you so you can study more. Also the supervisors of the dorms are coll and they will show some leniency.
Academic Rigor The classed are very tough, not to mention the graduation rate is 67%. Also the semesters are shorter and you have more vacation but your work and study is more compact. The one good thing is that the classes are small and the student teacher ratio is 17:1
Tips for prospective students This school is more for those that would want to go in enginering because there are a ton of internships in mobile. Also do not apply for housing late or you will regret it. If you are coming here to party, don't, this is a dry school
In three sentences The School is a nice size with a little over 15,000 students. The classes are smalland the tuition is cheap. this is a good choice.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck I honestly think that USA is expensive. It might not be compared to other schools, but I am a full time employee with two children and am currently trying to save money to pay for my tuition.
What to do for fun I am not quite sure what there is to do for fun on the campus. I am only there for academics as I work full time and have children. I know there is all types of sports and there is a pool and there are so many groups to be a part of.
Food and Dining I know that USA has recently renovated their student center. In doing so, they have included so many varieties and places to choose from to eat meals on campus.
Dorm Life I have no idea about the dorm life as I live at my own house with my husband and kids.
Academic Rigor Academics are fine. The academics touch on the necessary points, but aren't too difficult.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students, I suggest you know what you want to do. (This would be for any prospective student looking at any colleges or universities.) Changing majors can prolong you college career. I am a mother of two and I work full time. When I began my college career, I really wished i would have known what I really wanted to do with my life ealier.
In three sentences I would rate this school as being average. USA is the only university I have ever attended. I plan to complete my studies here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been issues regarding this is the past two years. But the campus alert system is in place and works reasonably quickly.
Greek Life Available but not mandatory for social success.
Clubs and Activities Wide range of academic, career and sports clubs and activities.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Mobile is one of the original Mardi Gras sites in the US so this tradition is strong on the campus.
Bang for the buck Money is well-spent here even for out of state students. The academic rigor and professional school preparation is a fair trade for costs.
What to do for fun Campus activities include all kinds of sports, academic and career oriented clubs and teams. The football team is going to be NCAA as of next year and competing in conference games, GO JAGS!
Food and Dining Food is good. You are required to have a meal plan if you live in the dorm. Not much available for vegans or organics fan though.
Dorm Life New dorms are being built every year and dorms are updated regularly. But there aren't many apartments styles available on campus.
Academic Rigor Classes are not easy, particularly in mathematics and science. You will get great preparation for professional school rigor at this school.
Tips for prospective students Going Greek is an option at this campus but isn't mandatory. Get involved in campus life and stay involved, there is a lot to do if you choose to do it.
In three sentences University of South Alabama is a great research school, has a good student to professor ratio, and most undergrad classes are taught by full professors. Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been problems in the past; however, the police department is working on getting better and has made the campus a lot safer.
Greek Life I am in a sorority here so of course I'm going to be somewhat biased. However, the greek life is so amazing especially for anyone that is wanting to get involved not only with a sorority/fraternity but also all over campus. It opens doors up for so many different oppurtunities for members so it is definitely well worth getting involved.
Clubs and Activities The clubs and activities are fantastic at South! There are so many to choose from and just about anyone can find something they are interested in.
Great for these types of students There's really not a specific kind because South offers a variety of different majors but if I had to pick it is a beyond amazing medical college for students who are interested in the medical field.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have a brand new bell tower that is located at the middle of campus and is absolutely beautiful! We also for every homecoming teepee the middle of our traffic circle which is fun.
Bang for the buck Overall, South is a great place to go to school. It is a great school with amazing oppurtunities. Students do get their money's worth as long as they put in effort and use what South gives them.
What to do for fun There are so many activities to do on campus I can't even begin to explain everything. There are free lunches and all kinds of clubs to join. Students receive emails about all the different activities so you know what's going on at the beginning of the week.
Food and Dining We just built a new dining hall that is amazing! The food is great and it's right in the middle of campus so it's not a far walk or drive.
Dorm Life The dorm life is fairly good on campus. We have had a bit of problems with violence on our campus but that's only because we are growing. Other than that it's great! We have a jag tran service which helps take you to class if you live on campus.
Academic Rigor The Univerisity of South Alabama is a pretty difficult school but if you work hard and study you should do fine.
Tips for prospective students Definitely get a feel of the campus because since we are growing more, the campus is getting more spread out. Another big tip is get involved! We have a great panhellenic program with amazing sororities and fraternities along with many interesting clubs to get involved with.
In three sentences The University of South Alabama is an amazing school with so many different oppurtunities for students. It is an average size campus that is growing more and more everyday from athletics such as our fairly new football team to new construction such as our new campus apartments and department buildings. The University of South Alabama is a great school for anyone to attend.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Definitely a great value! You get the classroom feel and cost of a community college, but with a 4 year university and huge student population
What to do for fun Go to Gulf Shores / Orange Beach only an hour away from Mobile! Many restaurants and hangout spots around campus!
Food and Dining The food in the cafeteria is EXCELLENT! I haven't tried any other places on campus though.
Dorm Life I have yet to check out the dorms here
Tips for prospective students If USA has your major, you'd be CRAZY not to go here!
In three sentences I just LOVE absolutely EVERYTHING about this college! It's a perfect location, being only an hour away from the beach and everyone there is SO friendly. It is probably one, if not THE ONE most state-of-the-art colleges in the whole state of Alabama, with 1/4 billion dollars in BRAND NEW facilities!

Categories Comments Campus Safety We do have campus police available 24/7 for protection on campus, in case you need an escort from your class to your car or dorm (especially at night), and little things like locking your keys in your car.
Greek Life It's always great to so see the Greeks and participate in the activities they have. Who knows, maybe you'll be a part of a greek organization yourself.
Clubs and Activities If you don't see the club you're looking for, make one! It's really easy to do. Believe me, there is a lot to do and you will never be bored.
Great for these types of students South has a little something for everybody!
What to do for fun Intramural Sports, Cookouts, Parties, Concerts, Comedians, Spoken Word and more!
Food and Dining South has all-you-can eat dining facility plus several other on campus food spots like Velma's deli, Einstein Bro. Bagels, Chick-fil A, Pizza Hut, Burger Studio, Quizno's and more!
Dorm Life Living on campus is great! I have lived on campus for two years now and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Academic Rigor Classes are well taught and forming study groups and attending study sessions will greatly help your grades.
Tips for prospective students Keep your GPA up and network as often as you can. You may find study partners, jobs, and all kinds of things to help you succeed in your chosen career path.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I do not live on campus. There is a campus police department staff by police officers, not security officers. Some areas of handicap accessibility and safety do need improvement.
Greek Life I do not participate in Greek life at South.
Clubs and Activities I do not participate in any clubs or activities but there is ALWAYS something happening!
Great for these types of students If you are looking to get into the medical profession, South runs the major teaching hospital in Mobile. The visual arts program is also excellent.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The bell tower is very lovely as are the ponds on campus.
Bang for the buck The professors are extremely knowledgeable in their fields and work very hard to make themselves available to their students. You will get out of South as much as you are willing to put in. Ask every question you have because that is what those teachers are there for!
What to do for fun There are many activity groups and clubs at South. Downtown Mobile is a lovely place to visit and it has a lively night life on the weekends. Local tourist attractions include the USS Alabama, the Paige-Mitchell Mansion, Bellengrath botanical gardens, the Museum of Mobile and the Mobile Arts Museum. Biloxi, MS and Pensacola, FL are within an hour's driving distance and they also offer a wide variety of things to do from gambling to beaches.
Food and Dining I do not eat on campus but there are several excellent restaurants within walking distance which offer very good food at reasonable prices. Downtown Mobile features a wide variety of restaurants, some of which have been featured on Man vs. Food and Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre Foods!
Academic Rigor The teachers are hard but fair. If you put forth your best effort, it will be recognized and rewarded. Some of the older teachers are tragically uneducated about the Americans with Disabilities Act and the requirements for academic accommodation for students with disabilities. It may be necessary to file complaints against them with your department head and go through the Office of Special Student Services to secure your rights as a disabled student.
Tips for prospective students Be sure your transfer credits have been accurately accounted for and placed! Public transportation is available but you will probably want a car to get around town. We have hot and humid summers with cool and rainy winters.
In three sentences The school has an excellent art department. The processing of transfer credits leaves a lot to be desired. The campus is lovely but far from downtown Mobile.

Greek Life Greek Life is one of the greatest things about South's campus. They are so involved and actually try to make campus a better place. They are also very sweet and fun!
Clubs and Activities There are too many clubs to count, and there is always something to do!
Great for these types of students Hard-working, social, over-achievers.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Epsilon is the most unusual and uncomfortable place to live.
Bang for the buck This school has the same, if not greater, effect on students as larger universities like The University of Alabama. It is also a great deal cheaper.
What to do for fun Attend Greek events, sporting events, and join clubs.
Food and Dining They serve the same thing all the time.
Dorm Life There is either really old dorms or dorms that have plumbing problems.
Academic Rigor The classes here are more difficult than what people think.
Tips for prospective students Make sure can handle not being scared of the dark too easily. You must be able to handle extreme weather and be ready to learn.
In three sentences The University of South Alabama is a a closer group of people than what others may expect. It is also a school of regal learning and standards, and it is not a school that students settle with. It is a little dangerous at times, and the police force needs to stop discriminating against Greek Life.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone who wants a solid education at an affordable price, as well as wanting to be close to the beautiful Gulf Coast.
Tips for prospective students Take a look around the website and especially pay attention to a lot of the new features the campus is adding. They have so many new buildings and more to come. Also, there are currently 2 live webcams up of different spots on campus; if you are from far away like I was, this could be your first, and only, look at the campus before you apply!
Bang for the buck The tuition is really cheap for instate, but a little more pricey for out of state. Being said, it's still cheaper than a lot of the universities in VA, which is where I am originally from. I pay less to attend USA as an out of state student then I did to attend my last college as an in state student.
Am enjoying being here I live on campus and I can say I enjoy USA and Mobile in general. The weather has been great so far, which is nice. The campus is generally easy to navigate, even though I'm still new, and a lot to do is offered.
Am learning a lot Currently I'm taking classes which aren't very challenging, mainly because I have already taken something that was nearly equivalent at my last college, but the credits didn't transfer. Being said, I still feel that the professors here do a great job and that if the material is new to you, then you will definitely learn.

Also the scenery around the college is very beautiful and if your bored or just looking for something to get into there is always an event of some sort going on.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The University of South Alabama is great for students who want to meet people of all different cultures. During a typical day on campus, one will pass at least three different individuals conversing with their friends or on the phone in completely different languages. The ESL (English as a Second Language) Department has many different mixers and activities to help international students make friends that you can get involved with. USA also has very good medical programs and within the past five years they have built a state of the art Health Sciences Building that contains the College of Nursing and the College of Allied Health. Students interested in the health professions would be well advised to look into the programs offered by the University of South Alabama.
Tips for prospective students As cliché as it may sound, getting involved on campus will make your college experience one of a lifetime. Don't wait until sophomore year like I did in order to truly get involved. Find several organizations that you are interested in and make contact with the individuals in charge. They will be more than happy to provide you with information about the organization. Most student organizations have facebook pages and send out emails that give you a sense of what they are about. Living on campus is also something that I would recommend. It's fun and convenient. When you only have to walk ten minutes to class in the morning from your front door, it makes it a lot more likely that you will actually motivate yourself to go.
Bang for the buck Tuition at the University of South Alabama is one of the lowest rates in the state. It is lower than both Auburn University and the University of Alabama. They also offer numerous scholarship opportunities for students based on academic performance, athletics, and musical abilities.
Am enjoying being here The campus layout was disappointing to me as a first year student because I dreamed of the green quads and quaint old buildings you are accustomed to viewing in movies. However, after a year, the facilities have greatly improved. The new student recreation center is phenomenal and conveniently close to the dormitories for students who live on campus. Lighting around campus has been improved, making it much safer for students who take night classes. In addition to the superficial qualities of the university, the teachers are extraordinary. Just because you don't attend a suffocatingly small, private university does not mean that you will be just another face in the crowd to your teachers. They are not too busy to help you as long as they see that you are making an effort in their classes. Finally, the last major attribute to USA is that the student body is so diverse. This diversity allows individuals to make friends with comrades of many different nationalities and helps increase tolerance for different cultures and beliefs: a necessity in today's increasingly globalized world.
Am learning a lot I am currently really getting into the courses that are specific to my major and within these classes I feel adequately challenged, but at the same time, all my professors are more than willing to help me if I ever have problems. However, my first year here I was very disappointed in the curriculum. I came from a very rigorous high school academic program and was accustomed to being pushed to my limits within my studies. The transition from high school to freshman year at college was a shocker for me because college was easier than high school. Everything in my Biology class, I already knew. The same went for my English classes. Once you get past the first general education courses you are required to take, the classes become more challenging and more applicable to your course of study and your future career. I am a Spanish major and my vocabulary and grammar knowledge has increased exponentially in the year and a half that I have been a student here.

Tips for prospective students Apply early, make sure your GPA is up to par, and do your best on the ACT.
Bang for the buck This school is one of the least expensive schools in the state and it has so much to offer from academics to sports, especially with their new Jaguar football team.
Am enjoying being here This campus is peaceful and there are a lot of organizations that host various functions.
Am learning a lot I feel like the teachers are doing a splendid job at helping me in learning the material. In the short amount of time that I have spent here, I feel like I've learned more than I ever have anywhere else.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The University of South Alabama is great for any student. With the vast selections of student associations, and clubs there is not a student who can't find somewhere to fit in. Also, if a student wishes to participate in a club that is not on South's campus, they can start. Although papers have to be filled out and signatures are needed, in the end when the club gets approved it is all worth it.
Tips for prospective students The most important thing to remember, is to come out of your shell. Talk to the people you have classes with, and make new friends, you never know when you will need a study buddy. Study, it is the best thing you can do. Don't Fret if you don't do your best on your first test. Learn from your mistakes. Get out of your dorm. If you commute, you can still participate in the activities around campus.
Bang for the buck The University's campus is compact and easy to navigate. There are many things to do, and during sports events and other activities, there are many chances to get free t-shirts and other jag wear. The bookstore has many activities going on, in which students have opportunities to win things such as gift cards or other Jag souvenirs. The school also has many job opportunities to help students pay for books, tuition, or other expenses in the University.
Am enjoying being here The University of South Alabama has something going on all the time, whether it be dinners, sports events, or some kind of concert. What ever your interests are you can find something to do. There is a vast number of student associations and everyone is friendly, and helpful. The University gives many opportunities for students to meet new people.
Am learning a lot The professors at the University of South Alabama are more than willing to help in any subject. They are there for the students. The advisors are also extremely helpful, and help you as you work towards you career goal. I am learning a lot not only in academics, but about myself as well.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The University of South Alabama is a great school for any types of people. There are many different types there already so anyone would be able to find a friend.
Tips for prospective students Tips that I would give prospective students would be, don't be afraid to ask questions because the people are really nice and helpful. You could make a friend just by asking a question. When I began school there, I didn't know anyone at all, but now I have more friends than I can count. The second tip would be don't be afraid to be yourself because it's many different types of people so if you be yourself, you will fit in just fine. The third tip would be to look over the Jag Tran routes before the first day of school so they will not get on the wrong one.
Bang for the buck I think I am really getting the most bang for my buck.
Am enjoying being here I really enjoy being at South Alabama. The people are nice and overly friendly. If they can help you find something, they will.
Am learning a lot I learned a lot in my first year of school. The teachers help you in any way they can, rather that is working with you after class or referring you to a tutor. I am looking forward to beginning my second year of college there.
