The biggest expense is travelling home and back. But if you plan well ahead, and you watch your 'pennies' , you will be ok. There are no prima donnas here, and everyone is very kind.

I'm guessing this section is about on campus jobs, there are many con campus jobs and you can go to the campus career center is ask for help when applying for these jobs or to just find out more information.

For experience with cultures -both national and international- its wonderful! If you're looking for a chance to learn in paradise it's way less expensive than any vacation- especially for the length of time you're here! Is it a super tough school where you're locked in your room studying? You know, part of that can be your major, part time management. I personally don't think so, but I'm very careful with my time.

Textbooks are a little steeply priced, but that's what Amazon is for. Just be sure you order your textbooks far enough in advance to give them time to ship over to the island. In state tuition is the cheapest I've ever seen, and out of state tuition isn't much worse. Also, UH Hilo offers a number of scholarships, and federal work study positions to students taking at least 6 credits.
