Around Town

Dallas is a very large city. With this comes many means of transportation and entertainment. Dallas houses many theaters, music venues, and sports activities and there is something for everyone in town.

There are TONS of activities, events, clubs, and organizations to be a part of. Also, Dallas is among the funnest cities in this nation. So much to see, so much to do.

People generally go out and explore Dallas when they want to have fun. Mockingbird station is a short walk from campus, so you can take public transportation to see live music in Deep Ellum or go anywhere in Dallas. There are a lot of good places to eat, view art, see movies, etc. in Dallas.

There is so much to do in Dallas, visit Deep Ellum or lower Greenville Ave for fun and unique spots to hang out at.

Make use of the athletic facilities such as dedman rec, get involved in clubs/ Greek life, visit other parts of Dallas, go to the many parties that happen all year long. Basically, there will be people who share the same interests as you, which makes it very easy to have fun.

ON campus there are many clubs and organizations that fit a variety of different interests, from different groups concerning culture, politics, sport, and multitude of other interests. OFF campus, Dallas is a sizable American city. There are theaters, restaurants, the site of the Kennedy assassination. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area there is the Cowboys Stadium, Six Flags, lakes, cultural centers, etc.

There are many ways to have fun at SMU, it's in the middle of Dallas for goodness sake! There are always fun activities to do around Dallas. For example, freshman year I went to a light and art festival in the Bishop Arts District and it was one of my favorite experiences since coming to SMU. There are also plenty of chances on campus to have a good time. For example, an organization called TREAT holds open mic nights on campus every other Thursday in the student center during the semester. Those are always super fun!

There are a lot of attractions nearby the school, but many tend to be somewhat expensive. I would recommend getting a DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) pass, which is only $5 and can take you numerous places around the city. Within just a few miles of SMU there is North Park Mall, Mockingbird Station (restaurants, stores, and a movie theater), the start of the Katy Trail (which leads to the American Airlines Center downtown), and much more. There is also a lot to do on campus because so many of the organizations put on events almost every night of the week. Also on the weekends the fraternities and sororities put on parties at clubs/bars downtown that anyone can attend.

Dallas has a booming social life. There is a party every night through some organization. Dallas offers concerts, fairs, shopping, food and fun. Dallas has a phenomenal mix of class and country.
