Mockingbird station is a short walk from campus, so you can take public transportation to see live music in Deep Ellum or go anywhere in Dallas. There are a lot of good places to eat, view art, see movies, etc. in Dallas.

OFF campus, Dallas is a sizable American city. There are theaters, restaurants, the site of the Kennedy assassination. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area there is the Cowboys Stadium, Six Flags, lakes, cultural centers, etc.
Read MoreThere are many ways to have fun at SMU, it's in the middle of Dallas for goodness sake! There are always fun activities to do around Dallas. For example, freshman year I went to a light and art festival in the Bishop Arts District and it was one of my favorite experiences since coming to SMU. There are also plenty of chances on campus to have a good time. For example, an organization called TREAT holds open mic nights on campus every other Thursday in the student center during the semester. Those are always super fun!
Read MoreThere are a lot of attractions nearby the school, but many tend to be somewhat expensive. I would recommend getting a DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) pass, which is only $5 and can take you numerous places around the city. Within just a few miles of SMU there is North Park Mall, Mockingbird Station (restaurants, stores, and a movie theater), the start of the Katy Trail (which leads to the American Airlines Center downtown), and much more. There is also a lot to do on campus because so many of the organizations put on events almost every night of the week. Also on the weekends the fraternities and sororities put on parties at clubs/bars downtown that anyone can attend.
