If there is anything I am learning about the art world at SAIC, its everything! Experimenting in different mediums and art types is daily routine. Film, sculpture, plaster, and sound are just a few things that I have dipped my hands into since being here. I create my own plan and degree based on what I am interested in and want to create. The main thing I am learning though,...

School of the Art Institute of Chicago has variety choices of departments that students can explore their interests in the different art fields. As a student of Film, Video, New Media, and Animation department, I really enjoy that I have the accessibility of a lot of equipment, like cameras, sound recorders, lights, and many others, which I can check out to use for my filming project not matter for course requirements or personal exercises.

It seems idealistic and nearly perfect from the outside, but I'm afraid one of the only things that they get truly right as an art school is the appearance. Things inside are run very hectic and with poor communication.

SAIC has a very diverse community of students and provides them with the opportunity to branch out in art-making. By not requiring students to declare a major right away, and by not using a grading system, SAIC creates a new college atmosphere by respecting the creative and ever-changing minds that study there. There are many great people to meet here that can also help students find connections for life after college.

SAIC is perfect for artistic, creative minds who want to explore multiple medias. In the heart of the city, attending school here is super fast paced and there is always something going on, whether it be school affiliated events or not. So far, I've encountered amazing professors who are dedicated to their students as well.

This school is very challenging and much more than what you expect; however, this school follows an interdisciplinary program so you have a lot of opportunities to try different majors. Some in which you have never heard of.

I've visited the campus multiple times and have had absolutely no criticisms against it! The school's little supportive ideas for the artist's mind (having school in the museum, studios in all dorm buildings open 24/7, and having no majors or grades whatsoever) is extremely helpful! If you're an artist looking to pursue an education within the city and want to be pushed to be the greatest you can be, I suggest you apply here.
