    Know what you're getting into with art school. Many freshmen drop out their first quarter because they are unprepared for foundational courses in drawing, design, painting, and literature. Also, apply for as many scholarships as you can, and get to know other students who share your interests.

    A helpful strategy that I have recently taken up is doing my homework the night I receive it. My homework load in the first semester was stacked and the main reason for this was because I didn't do my homework until the night before. Doing it the day you receive it gets it out of the way so you can go do other things. Plus, if you notice a mistake, you have an extra day (or a few, depending on if it's the weekend or not) to fix your errors before submitting it. It's a great way of staying on top of things.
