STUDY! I know you may still have that senioritis from your last year of high school, thinking there's no need to study hard, I'm in college now, they'll be plenty of time to do that later. DON'T put off your education!!! Yes partying is really tempting, and it's fun do do every once and a while, but if you don't put in the effort for the class you'll soon fall behind. I know I had a hard time adjusting, so just keep with it!

Next, look into what classes you would be taken as you pursued your degree. Personally, academics is the most important factor for me, so I go through class by class and compare it to programs at other schools. Finally, tour the compass if you can, and venture around town to get a feel of what living there may be like.
