There are billboards that locally advertise Rio's per credit hour bargain rates. What Rio will not tell you is that you are practically required to buy their custom textbooks and lab kits which at least for the textbooks are difficult to find elsewhere and you can forget reselling anything you bought from them. It is possible to buy lab materials from other places but you will end up with more product than needed to conduct the at-home experiments for about the same price as their preassembled kits. Rio is maximizing their profit margin because of the business relationship with Pearson Custom Publishing. Food for thought: Other publishers have been the subject of class action law suits because of such relationships.
