Student Responses to Review Topic: Tips for Prospective Students

My tip for prospective students is to stay far away from Rio Salado College if at all possible. One would think a completely online school would employ the best possible online learning system. Instead, they are using an old version of what appears to be Blackboard design called Rio Learn. The system is extremely slow and disorganized. Not only that Rio only gives you one chance to submit any of your assignments. If you later determine that a mistake was made before the deadline you are not able to resubmit. I don't know why they do this but it demonstrates the type of culture and attitude they have towards their students. When you are trying your absolute best and are still falling behind rules like these make you almost want to give up. I'm no slouch mind you. I am one course from completing two separate AAS & AA degrees with a 4.0 GPA. That is before I decided to complete that one last course online with Rio.

If possible consider taking your science courses somewhere else, anywhere else. At the beginning of most science courses all faculty post an open memo as a general default warning to "students who are retaking this class". This means that the majority of students have taken the classes and failed at least once before and are having to retake the class to get a satisfactory grade. Getting B's at Rio is considered below average performance and you will not be accepted into certain programs they offer.

I attended Rio Salado. I did not like the college. They tried to force me into taking an introductory class that was not required. The harder I tried in the intro to statistics class, the more Mr. H would try to KNOCK me down. Not a good school!!!
