Categories Comments Food and Dining TJ dining hall is pretty sub-par, but the Chik-fil-a across campus makes up for it.
Dorm Life Very nice dorms! Get a good group of friends on your floor, and you will never have a dull moment!
Academic Rigor This is a very difficult school, but it is worth it.
Tips for prospective students You probably won't have any issues getting accepted, but remember that this is a hard school, and the introductory chemistry and calculus courses tend to weed people out.

Categories Comments Campus Safety +The campus has a fully fledged police force +The Town is small, safe, and surrounded by rural areas +Rolla is a good distance away from larger cities
Clubs and Activities Almost everyone I know or met at MS&T is involved with some sort of club or activity. MS&T takes these clubs very seriously, and there is something for everyone (often times on any schedule)
Great for these types of students +The dedicated up and coming Engineer who doesn't want distractions +The Missouri Student who wants a larger and more dedicated Engineering program than Mizzou +The Student who needs or wants a great balance between affordability and quality +A Midwesterner who is set on Explosives or Nuclear Engineering
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Patrick's Day is a huge deal for MS&T. It is probably the biggest day of the year. There are parades, parties, games, and nearly everything turns green.
Bang for the buck MS&T is synonymous with great career outlook. The education is extremely affordable for In-State Students and still affordable for Out-of-State Students. MS&T seniors constantly have job opportunities during their Senior year (And many students take part of their senior year to do paid internships)
What to do for fun St. Patrick's Day Celebration Hiking, Fishing, Backpacking, Camping, Canoeing Visiting St. Louis or Columbia Participate in the many on-campus groups or activities
Food and Dining +Alex's Pizza is amazing +There are a lot of Dining Plan Options -The On Campus dining is alright -Several dining locations are relatively bland
Dorm Life The Dorms aren't amazing by dorm standards. They do the job, but I would recommend trying to get into Greek Life and then planning to live off campus after freshman and sophomore year. The best dorm rooms go pretty fast, so most students will need to deal with a serious lack of space. The good news is the close living quarters makes it easy to find a support group to get through college. You have to interact with others so often that it leads to camaraderie.
Academic Rigor The academics won't ever be challenging just for the sake of being difficult. However MS&T is still an Engineering school with a great regional reputation, and thus the university will have some intense coursework comparatively speaking.
Tips for prospective students Apply to the scholarships- MS&T makes them easy Compare MS&T's Engineering to Mizzou's Engineering- There is a huge difference in college life, cost, and program size The type of Engineering Degree that you get from MS&T is uncommon- There are very few universities that offer engineering degrees with hands-on experiences included in the classroom.
In three sentences Arguably the best Engineering school in the state of the Missouri. The best Engineering School for Explosives, Nuclear, and Aerospace Engineering in the Midwest. Welcoming, affordable, and career oriented.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Ok, first let's appreciate the fact that they know my name! But the dining halls here are really nice. They have selections for vegetarians and vegans. They also have little restaurant types that you can pick from.
Dorm Life The dorms are a nice size, but they are kind of bland. For the community showers, they clean them regularly, ad the staff are really friendly.
Academic Rigor Like I said earlier, this is a hard school. They expect every student to take responsibility for their own grades. The professors aren't afraid to help, but you have to reach out to them.
Tips for prospective students Find a study group as soon as possible! There are plenty people around that are willing to help. It is a hard school, don't struggle alone.
In three sentences I love being here. The people around the area are extremely friendly. Overall, Missouri S&T is a great environment.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've never felt unsafe on campus, even when walking alone at night. Campus is well lit, with pathways from the main places and an escort system available.
Greek Life Especially for the women interested in MST, I would recommend looking into greek life. The three panhellenic sororities on campus are great ways to gain a supportive group of women around you, as well as provide opportunities for leadership and advancement.
Clubs and Activities Depending on what you're interested in, MST will probably provide you with a club or activity.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Pat's is the largest event on campus all year
Bang for the buck Whether you're instate or out of state, MST is worth the price. You'll receive countless opportunities for career advancement and academic studies.
What to do for fun There are lots of clubs and activities on campus, as well as sororities and fraternities. Rolla does not provide much in the way of plans, but the surrounding areas have a few options, and St. Louis is only an hour and a half away.
Food and Dining At TJ Dining Hall, you'll have options of pizza, a grill and a homestyle meal. Havener center has an Einstein's Bagels, as well as sub sandwiches, burgers/chickens, salads, tacos and homestyle meal. You can use one meal swipe at TJ, and most of Havener's options have a combo meal. Otherwise, one swipe is worth $5.85, or you can use your points. Each meal plan comes with an amount of meals per week or points per semester.
Dorm Life I've lived in Thomas Jefferson Hall, which is essentially the typical dorm experience. In the north tower, you'll be sharing a floor with around 90 other students, with two bathrooms on each floor. There is a dining hall downstairs with an all-you-can-eat style kitchen.
Academic Rigor MST is not the place for those who want an easy college education. Classes are rigorous, even for the first semester freshmen. Professors and teaching assistants want to challenge students to find what they're passionate about.
Tips for prospective students Apply early and visit the campus - that's how I fell in love. Ask lots of questions to your tour guide, and make sure you understand where you'll fit in on the campus. Even with less than 10,000 students, the campus can feel very overwhelming if you aren't sure where you belong.
In three sentences MST has provided me the opportunity to meet like minded students who have come from the top of their high school classes. While athletics are not the highest priority, it's amazing to be involved with a team that is focused on both competing and challenging themselves academically. The opportunities here are endless, from academic help to research opportunities.

Food and Dining Fair amount of options, and most are good quality. There are also a lot of discounts for students.

Academic Rigor Some classes are really tough, and they definitely challenge you
Tips for prospective students Prepare to work hard.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It's pretty safe, but you still have to be on your guard.
Greek Life It's not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. It's much different than at larger schools, especially the sororities. Academics come first, and everyone understands that.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of organizations. Join at least one or two, to make friends and have something to do.
Great for these types of students Self motivated.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Pats. You get two days off of school.
Bang for the buck It's a quality education, but out of state tuition is horrible. Make sure to get a job or something and keep it for a year. It's worth it to get in state tuition.
What to do for fun Bowling? Join a club, make some friends, play intramural sports. There isn't much else to do in town.
Food and Dining The food is not good. It might start off okay, but it'll get progressively worse as the semester goes on. In TJ, you'll end up eating cereal for every meal by the last month.
Dorm Life Let's be honest, the dorms kinda suck. Some of them are newer, but I don't like the setup as much. If I had to choose, I'd pick TJ south tower.
Academic Rigor Really tough classes. Plan on studying hard, and putting forth a great amount of effort.
Tips for prospective students Take AP classes! Especially chem and physics. And consider retaking calculus even if you took AP calc. Don't blow off the placement exams. They actually do matter. Look up all professors on a rating website before you enroll in their class. It's pretty hit or miss sometimes.
In three sentences Smaller school, which I really like. Tough classes; you'll actually have to learn how to study. Some awesome people, some not so awesome.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I personally have never felt unsafe on campus or in the area.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Pats
Bang for the buck Cheaper than a lot of schools in the area, and the ROI is very high.
Food and Dining ummm, pretty gross, especially for how much you have to pay for it.
Dorm Life Never lived in the dorms, but I hear they aren't too bad. Just very expensive.
Academic Rigor Very challenging; but the end result could be your dream job.
Tips for prospective students Take all the math and physics classes that you can in high school. You can never be too prepared!
In three sentences A challenging, but rewarding school. Staff is helpful and wants you to succeed. A very prestigious engineering education to employers.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is one of the best I know. Never had any problems or worries about walking campus alone at late hours as a female student. There have been a few incidents near, but off campus. It's generally not a big concern for many students.
Greek Life With the guy to girl ratio around 6:1, there are about 3 sororities and about 18 fraternities. Greek life is very social and active around campus. Many Greeks help out with volunteer work and other activities outside of their house. Greek housing can range from very ornate to run-down depending on different chapters.
Clubs and Activities Many different options and interests to choose from. We have clubs ranging from volunteering committees to working with design teams. Many organizations are very diverse and open to anyone interested. Most students are very involved around campus activities.
Great for these types of students Many students here could be classified as nerds/geeks/socially awkward. However, if you are none of the above, you'll still fit in just fine. There's a little bit of every kind of person.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus On St. Pat's, we go crazy. You kindof just have to be there.
Bang for the buck Definitely worth it. Even as a current student, struggling to get by financially and academically, I would say the experiences you get out of this school is definitely worth how much they are asking (and they aren't asking for a little!). If I could choose again, I would not change a thing.
What to do for fun S&T throws the most amazing parties that you can find just about any night of the week - especially starting Thursday to the weekend. Not much is outside of campus, but on campus usually has multiple events for students during the day.
Food and Dining Food quality could be improved. However, there are many options to choose from along with many meal plan selections.
Dorm Life People are very kind and friendly in the campus community. Many students are accepting and will be open to talk to anyone. Dorms are social and interactive with all students willing to participate.
Academic Rigor Definitely the most rigorous school I know. Courses go very in depth and sometimes relearning the material on your own is necessary. Studying 3 hours for every credit hour you take is not over working. Don't underestimate the difficulty of this school.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared! This school is not very selective when it comes to admitting new students, but when you get abroad, it will not be an easy ride. You have to make sure to focus on your grades and studies - even when the parties here get really crazy!
In three sentences Missouri University of Science and Technology is an exceptional school for serious and dedicated students. It is a very difficult school, but well worth the knowledge and experiences gained during enrollment. If you attend Science and Technology, you will have great opportunities to obtain internships, co-ops, and successful careers.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We are a small campus and surrounding town, so we don't have much crime at all.
Greek Life Greek Life is huge here. We have about 28 frats and 4 sororities (3 recognized). I, myself, am a part of Chi Omega sorority and I love it! It is a great community that puts scholarship, career and personal development, and campus and community involvement ahead of anything else.
Clubs and Activities There are SO many different clubs, sports, and organizations to join all over campus all year round!
Great for these types of students We have many international students, but we're mostly comprised of people from Missouri.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Do you like St. Pat's?!?! Because we do!!! St. Patrick's Day is a week-long celebration for our campus (since St. Patrick is the patron saint of engineering) that often comes with canceled classes and many shades of green!
Bang for the buck Relatively well priced school that have amazing employment statistics after graduation! Though out-of-state tuition is insane in my opinion.
What to do for fun Get involved on campus, whether it be a fraternity/sorority, a design team, or any number of our various organizations here! They keep you busy and impress employers and parents alike.
Food and Dining Chartwell's is our main sponsor for dining hall food, not something the students are especially happy about. But there's a few restaurants around here that are decent and Einstein Bagels and Panera (or Bread Co.) is really good.
Dorm Life I, personally, really enjoy living with my roommate and a bunch of other people on my floor. The only downside to the dorms is food; Thomas Jefferson Hall has a cafeteria in their building but the food is only eh, while the Residence Colleges have to walk to Havener for a little bit better food, with more options.
Academic Rigor This school challenges even the best of us. Whether it be the teachers, TA's, or the subject itself there will always be difficulties for people. However, our school truly prepares you for your future career and qualifies you to be at the top of the competition upon graduation.
Tips for prospective students Unless you truly understand chemistry and physics, try your hardest to take AP courses or dual credit in order to test out. Also, if you are a guy be ready to have little options in available women, and if you're a girl, be ready for a lot of attention (both wanted and unwanted). Be sure to get involved when you get on campus!
In three sentences This school is one of the top engineering universities in the United States. They have many majors if you're interested in the STEM field, but only in that field. It is challenging and, at times, frustrating, but the rewards are fantastic.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is a high priority for the staff at Missouri University of Science and Technology. There are very few cases that may occur throughout the year, but if there is an incident, word will spread quickly.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of the main traditions at Missouri University of Science and Technology, is the celebration of St. Patrick's Day. Students are allowed an average of four day off to enjoy themselves by partying, dancing, and just hanging out with friends. One tip I have is to drink responsibly.
Food and Dining The food was decent and sometimes may not be the best. But once every month they have a special where you get a ticket and decide what you want depending on what the special is. There are multiple places to eat, so finding a place to sit down with friends won't be hard at all.
Dorm Life The dorm I lived in was the Thomas Jefferson Dorm and it was really nice. Everyone has plenty of space to walk around in and we had activities such pool, Ping-Pong, etc., to past the time. The rooms where also pretty decent. Roommates had enough space to walk around in and adjust their living area.
Academic Rigor The university academically, is very challenging. It is best not to procrastinate on any homework assignment. This is where time management skills come into play. One has to figure out which assignment to complete first. With having this skill, it should make things a bit easier.
In three sentences Missouri University of Science and Technology is one of my most recommended engineering colleges for those who want to become an engineer. There are lots of opportunities for students to get active in and the people there are great to get along with. Staff are there to help those who want to pursue their career and give good advice on what steps to take.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You do feel safe on campus. In dorm halls doors automatically lock after a certain time at night allowing only those with keys back in.
Greek Life The Greek Life is awesome! Students that participate in Greek life have a whole other college experience and they're some of the nicest and outgoing people you will meet.
Clubs and Activities There are endless clubs and activities to participate in. A Spelunkers Club, Student Life Committees, and our own radio station.
Great for these types of students S&T is great for the students that maybe were on the nerdy side in high school, a place that is easy to break out of your old shell and become a new person.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Patrick's Day is a famous tradition. This year will be the 106th Best Ever St. Pats. Activities like the snake invasion and painting your whole body green is what makes S&T a special place to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
Bang for the buck Definitely worth your money to go to S&T. There is plenty of financial aid and scholarships to help out that cost too.
What to do for fun There are endless organizations and clubs to join as well as the famous St. Patrick's Day celebration we have here on campus.
Food and Dining The dining halls on campus are just okay. However, it is nice having Einstein's Brothers Bagel Company.
Dorm Life Dorm life is fun, especially as a freshman. It's a good way to meet people and feel like you are really apart of a campus community.
Academic Rigor Classes are hard and fast paced, you have to keep up and study or you will not succeed.
Tips for prospective students You might have slid through high school without studying or trying very hard but S&T will challenge your intellect, so get ready to work hard for your degree.
In three sentences Missouri University of Science and Technology is a diverse campus full of students who want to be there and gain the best possible science based education. Great for these types of students This school is great for Engineering students, Computer Science students, and Psychology students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus An unusual tradition is St. Pats which is over a period of 5 days and there is a parade with floats and the organizations. A location is The Puck which is the center of campus and has a symbol to show it.
Bang for the buck The school is worth going to you get your knowledge worth and are vigorously challenged.
What to do for fun There are many things to do for fun from joining an athletic team to joining a club or organization, which this school has more than 250 of.
Food and Dining The food is decent and there is a variety of options to choose from at the three different dining halls.
Dorm Life Dorm Life is fun and interesting due to the fact that you meet so many new people and are invited to tons of activities to make new friends.
Academic Rigor The school's programs are more challenging than other schools because they want the students to know more than they should to be able to get a career before graduating.
Tips for prospective students Do not be discouraged by the price to go to this school because it is worth figuring out and going to.
In three sentences I feel that this school has great learning programs and an amusing campus. Missouri University of Science and Technology is a great school to be at and they introduce you to many new people.

Academic Rigor Classes challenge you, but are not impossible to get good grades in.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Rolla is in the middle of nowhere so it's really safe.
Greek Life The Greek Life at Rolla is good. Most of the people that are not nerds join a house.
Clubs and Activities none of our sports teams are good but we do some good design compition teams.
Great for these types of students Rolla is great for nerds.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every homecoming one of the fraternities pour thermite on a rock and then try to drag it on the other fraternity's yard.
Bang for the buck Very little to do in rolla other than play video games and drink.
What to do for fun For fun, I go to other people's room and hangout, and I am a part of an organization that I enjoy being a part of.
Food and Dining It's dorm food, it's not the best but you can live on it.
Dorm Life Most of the people in the dorms seem to stay to themself and play a lot of video games.
Academic Rigor The degree that you will recieve from Missouri S&T will well prepare you for your work after college.
Tips for prospective students Do well your first few semesters because they will be the easiest you will have.
In three sentences Missouri S&T is a tough school. One of the reasons it is so hard is that most of the teachers are foreign and speak very poor English. Although the teachers are very good in their area of study.

Great for these types of students Smart kids Nerds Anyone interested in any kind of engineering or science (chemistry, biology, etc).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Patrick's Day is HUGE up there. To be caught in the mess it creates can prove deadly sometimes. The festivities in the week before can be amusing, but the parties get crazy, so be careful.
What to do for fun Sand Volleyball Recreation Center has workout areas, basketball courts, swimming pool, and more. Many parks are nearby so go play some games or just enjoy nature. There are some ponds in which you could fish.
Food and Dining The food is okay. The cafeteria's may seem like a great deal and not bad, but definitely try out the main food at Havener. But be careful what you eat. The food can be greasy and cause stomach problems, or you may just get tired of eating the same food over and over.
Dorm Life The dorm life may seem a bit boring and closed it, but it's not bad. Get a group of friends together often and just hang out in someone's room to play games or chill.
Tips for prospective students Come prepared to study a lot, as the school is challenging to make the best of the students. Do not be afraid to go out and talk to others, many people are coming to a place where they know few, so everyone is looking for friends. Although the studies may seem endless and you may feel oppressed, just take some time on the weekends at least to get out and have a good time and relieve some stress.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I was hit by a truck while on my bike and the guy drove off, and lots of people have their bikes and other things stolen. Over all it is better than living in a big city.
Clubs and Activities There are lots of opportunities for many different activities.
Great for these types of students Everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Pats is a hug tradition and lots of fun.
Bang for the buck You cannot work and go to school at the same time and expect to do well at this school and expect to have a social life. The loans do add up but the job opportunity later will be better than other schools.
What to do for fun I like to bike, and hang out with friends.
Food and Dining I did not like the selection. My roommate was a vegetarian and I ate a lot of the same foods she did. The food was never fresh and was way over priced. I did not like the fact that everyone that lived in the dorms was forced to have a meal plan. Again I do like living off campus and bring my own packed lunches.
Dorm Life I did not like living in the dorms. I lived in residential college. I had problems with one person I lived with and the director would not let me move to another building. I would have liked it better if I lived in TJ. I really like living off campus on the other hand.
Academic Rigor The school mostly focuses on your major. What I do like, is that in my department they focus on group work and real world problems.
Tips for prospective students There is not a lot of things to do in the town and the college is expensive. Don't get overwhelmed if you don't pass the first time around. Keep working at it because it will get better.
In three sentences This school is very difficult, but you will learn. It will help you with your future unlike some other schools I have attended. The town may not be the best, but if you work hard in the end you will have a greater return than students at other colleges.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is veery safe. I have not heard of any crimes or bad things happening on campus since attending this school.
Clubs and Activities There are a multitude of clubs available to join on campus. Some of which are a fencing club, spelunking club, rock climbing club, multiple design teams, barbecue club, intramural sports etc.
Great for these types of students Students pursuing any sort of Engineering career
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Patricks day is a huge thing in Rolla. There are St. Pats styled games and events all week and then we get Thursday and Friday off to celebrate. That Saturday there is a St. Pats parade and concert free for all to attend and even more city wide fun.
Bang for the buck The way the school helps its students find companies willing to hire them and everything that they offer to us it makes it well worth the cost.
What to do for fun The school has a decent recreational center and among that they offer different events for students to attend. Such activities like: concerts, comedians, mass movie nights, sporting events, the all so famous Rolla St. Pats, and student coordinated fun. All of which are free for students to attend.
Food and Dining There is not a huge array of food available and it is not always my ideal kind of meal. Most times I would rather go out and either make my own meals or go get fast food
Dorm Life The dorms on campus are really nice and spacious. however there is not always a lot of face to face interactions between a lot of the students. Most establish a base group of friends and keep to themselves after that, others may either be social butterflies or just restrict themselves to their rooms and classes.
Academic Rigor Depending on how many hours you decide to take your workload in classes can be pretty time consuming. But if you stay on top of your work you will be fine
Tips for prospective students If you plan to come be prepared and don't think you'll be able to slack off in your classes.
In three sentences This is a very challenging school to be a part of. The curriculum is hard but the faculty put forth their best effort to help you succeed . They challenge us in our classes in order to assure that we will be at our best when we leave to pursue our future careers.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Pats, I am not sure what all goes on, but this is just one of those days that the campus celebrates with many events.
What to do for fun For fun I hang out with the people on my floor, listen to music, or play video games
Food and Dining The food really depends on the day of the week. It is either a very good day and everything tastes great or there are the days where the food tastes really bad.
Dorm Life I have had a great experience in my dorm this year. My floor has gotten along better than I thought it would and I have made friends that I feel I will know the rest of my life.
Academic Rigor Like I stated before this is a very tough school, but has great payoff in the end with the degree you earn.
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships when they come available, Study Hard, Be ready to ask for help when it is needed
In three sentences Missouri S&T is a great technology university that is well known throughout the United States and different parts of the world thanks to its amazing graduates. It is a very difficult school, but with the many traditions and activities it doesn't seem as bad. This is also a school that has a lot of family chains attending it, as for me, my grandpa, aunt and uncle all graduated from here as well.

Dorm Life The communities in the dorms range from simple and quiet to fun and friendly.

In three sentences Missouri S&T is a great school for any student interested in the STEM fields. This is the best education around for Sciences and Engineering fields. In addition, it is relatively cheap for students living in Missouri.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Since there is such diversity on campus, we celebrate things like the Chinese New Year. We also have a big event called Celebration of Nations.
What to do for fun There are a lot of clubs to join. There are also free movies provided by SUB. Of course there is a bowling alley, movie theatre, etc.
Tips for prospective students Don't fall behind in your studies and homework. And, no matter how temping, don't skip class. Stay focused!

Food and Dining Lots of options of where to eat on campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Rolla is tiny, but there have been scares. When I visited it seemed to be a safe place.
Great for these types of students People who want to study engineering, and who are willing to work hard
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St Patrick's Day is the alcohol fest to end all alcohol fests.
Bang for the buck For the opportunities you will get after graduating, MS&T is an incredible value, even for out of staters.
What to do for fun Join a club, go to a park, drinking
Food and Dining The food was incredibly greasy, but edible. They have a brick pizza oven which was neat.
Dorm Life I spent a week in TJ and it was adequate; the mattresses weren't so nice but a foam pad can easily fix that. The communal bathroom was alright.
Academic Rigor MS&T is ABET accredited, so the courses are just as tough as any other engineering major at any university. Humanities classes aren't so difficult.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that engineering is what you want to pursue. Keep taking rigorous math and science classes.
In three sentences Missouri S&T is a good place to spend 4 years getting a quality education. There is a lot of nature to explore, and as long as you keep an open mind you will make life long friends.

Categories Comments Greek Life Not your typical greek system, but I still find it very enjoyable.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus ST. PATS!!!!!! Best Ever!
What to do for fun Play video games or hit up one of the frats to party it up.
Food and Dining The food is pretty decent. Rayl Hall isn't the best, but its all you can eat and close to the Quad if your an athlete. Havener has better quality but it costs more. TJ has all you can eat as well. If none of those cut it you can order pizza on your meal plan.
Dorm Life As an athlete, I lived with my teammates right off the bat. That made living in the dorms much more fun. Don't be afraid to go out and meet the people on your floor. It will make your stay much more enjoyable.
Academic Rigor Even if you've taken a class before in high school it will still give you a run for your money. Study hard.
Tips for prospective students Stay on top of your studies. The classes here are much more difficult than similar ones at schools like Mizzou or MSU. But dont be afraid to let loose a little and relax or you will go crazy.
In three sentences Great education with difficult classes. Not a big town or campus so you can walk most places. Plenty of opportunities to have fun at frats or house parties.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police seem to have a sense for suspicious items and people. Someone probably wouldn't even be able to carry a knife around campus without being stopped by security.
Great for these types of students If you're a nerd, geek or any variant of the word, you will fit in perfectly here. No matter what you are at MST, you'll also be a nerd. I once had a few guys come into a class after football practice talking about how it went. Then, they began discussing Star Wars; not just about which movies they liked and the characters, they were actually talking about detailed facts about the Star Wars universe in general.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Patrick's day is a big celebration at MST. It seems to be greatly anticipated year-round. Another regular activity is Humans vs. Zombies, which is played at colleges all around the world. It's like a more adult variation of tag, with Nerf guns.
What to do for fun There are many restaurants within walking distance from the main campus, as well as a movie theater. There's also older movies in the auditorium every Tuesday, as well as newer ones nearly every weekend.
Tips for prospective students Definitely get involved with other people as soon as you can. It can be a club (official or unofficial) or just a group of friends. It will help to keep you sane, assuming you are when you arrive.
In three sentences It has an absolutely beautiful campus. Everyone there is nice and mature, unlike high-school. You couldn't ask for a better living experience while getting a quality education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus has a security alert system that will text the whole campus and alert them to any suspicious activity.
Great for these types of students -Engineering students
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Saint Pats holiday is the biggest time of the year for S&T. The biggest party of the year that takes up about a week.
What to do for fun Rolla is a small town so not a lot of entertainment can be driven to. The fun mostly comes from your peers when we decide what to do on a random Tuesday night, Bake cookies!
Food and Dining The dining halls are spread around campus, but the meal plans and accessibility of the food are some of the downsides. Some dining halls are open at some specific times and you would not be able to use two meals for lunch for example.
Dorm Life Most dorms have been recently redone, so the living areas are quite nice. There are also lounges meant for students recreation and separate lounges for study.
Academic Rigor This school is for bright students, most are wishing to go into the engineering field. The academic structure is designed to help each student with their field of work and gives plenty of opportunity.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of the Opening Week that is provided for freshman. It will be where you meet your future friends and a lot of fun activities go on during this week, so don't miss out.
In three sentences A school I did not intend to end up at, but in the end I am glad to be here. The campus is great, and the small class sizes allow anyone to make friends easily.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Watch out for the overly-friendly squirrels!
Greek Life There are a lot more guys than girls at this university. Freshmen and Sophomores are ~3:2, after that age group, the ratio drops to ~4:1.
Clubs and Activities We have 10+ design teams that design and actually build a solar house, electric car, concrete canoe, robotics, SAE formula racing, and a very large chapter of Engineers Without Borders. Engineers Without Borders has 4 projects going on in different countries: Bolivia, Honduras and Guatemala. I have traveled to Guatemala and the experience was everything I wanted it to be and more!
Great for these types of students Nerds, NASA fans, pyro's, beer-lovers unite!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Patrick's Day is not a day, it is a week! We get two days off as spring recess. Drunken alumnus paint our main one-way street green, and the whole town gathers for a parade.
Bang for the buck Absolute best bang for your buck when it comes to tuition and extracurricular activities.
What to do for fun Drink beer! Enjoy the outdoors of Missouri. Join your fellow video gaming friends. Frisbee at the parks.
Food and Dining The cafeterias are great, and support many diets as we have many international students. We have Einstein Bros on campus, Jimmy Johns and Subway are very close. There are lots of pubs and pizza places, too.
Dorm Life The Resident College and Thomas Jefferson halls are new. I have never stayed in the dorms; only rented houses. Investment Realty is a company that has a monopoly over most of Rolla's rental properties. When you sign a lease with them, be ready to sign up for 10+ months--have a plan B to recruit roommates if your first ones don't work out.
Academic Rigor Some freshman level courses you can breeze through because the professor knows that it is a GPA-cushioning class. Physics 23 will be a wake up call if you're an engineering major. This university is not supposed to be easy.
Tips for prospective students If you haven't already taken Calculus, then you need to take your Math courses at Columbia College online or at another university prior to attending S&T. The mathematics here are not easy.

Categories Comments Greek Life Tons of opportunities here. we have a little over 25 fraternities and all get along well and do tons of community work to contribute to not just the school but the town of Rolla.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Pats!! The oldest and best tradition here at S&T is our week-long St. Pats celebration! Events everyday and we even get 2 days off school.
Bang for the buck You get your money's worth in education here.
What to do for fun Lots of rivers and parks are near by so float trips are common and super fun. The school also hold a lot of free movie nights in one of our biggest lecture halls with free snacks and drinks and they always have current awesome movies.
Food and Dining Selection on some days is sketchy but for the most part, I enjoy all the food.
Dorm Life we have 4 complexes and all are awesome places to live. Friendly people and a great community to be apart of.
Academic Rigor This is a tough school! We are known for it and we like to keep it this way. Work hard and it will pay off.
Tips for prospective students Learn how to study! If you breezed through high school and didn't need to study or do much homework then you need to learn. This school isn't easy, but when it comes time to find a job, companies want our students because we are much more prepared.
In three sentences I love school here. Lots of fun people and things to do without being to large of a campus. No need for shuttling and all that jazz, everything is a walkable distance and the weather is great here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Between campus police and the size of the town, safety is no issue here on campus.
Greek Life To say greek life is a huge part of our community would be an understatement. If your looking to live in an on campus fraternity where you can make lots of friends and have a lot of great experiences while giving back to the community you will love our greek life.
Clubs and Activities If you want to do it there's a club for it or you can start one, there are so many clubs and activities here on campus, you wont even hear about them all. There's a lot to do on campus go out and find it.
Great for these types of students Engineers, Computer science, and students who want an enjoyable and well supported curriculum.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus To state the number of odd traditions here on campus would take a small essay, but to name a few Humans vs Zombies, TJ assassins, Gumby, St. Pats day, St. pats day, oh and did i mention St. pats day? We make a big deal about St. pats day here. If your looking for traditions you'll be happy here.
Bang for the buck You paid for a good education and your going to get one here. I feel that my money is very well spent here.
What to do for fun ........That's a long list. If it can be done there are people who you can do it with and there's never a lack of things to do with the thousands of on campus events hosted by our various student organizations.
Food and Dining While some may complain about it overall the food quality here is awesome and varied so each meal can be more than enjoyable.
Dorm Life By the end of the first week i felt as if my entire floor was family and there's never a lack of random people to make friends with and share your interests with.
Academic Rigor Classes here in your selected field actually challenge you to think, solve problems, and actually better prepare you for the real world.

In three sentences So far my experiences on campus have proven to be beyond satisfactory. Categories Comments Campus Safety The University Police are great at their jobs. I've never had to call them, but I've heard they are really fast responders and always really friendly. Rolla is an overall really safe town, so feeling safe of campus is a given. If campus safety is one of your top priorities, Missouri S&T is the place for you.
Greek Life Greek life at Missouri S&T is pretty great. There is a strict anti-hazing policy enforced so students always feel safe.
Clubs and Activities There are more than 200 student organizations on campus, and counting! You name it, we have it. And if the club you're looking for isn't yet established, you can start your own!
Great for these types of students Motivated, brilliant, determined, maybe a little nerdy
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Missouri S&T celebrates St.Patrick's day like no one else. We have a week-long celebration, a parade, games, and we even get time off from school to celebrate our Best Ever! St.Pat's every year.
Bang for the buck You definitely get your money's worth at Missouri S&T. Not only are the classes challenging and fast paced, there are also a ton of research opportunities. And the almost-guaranteed-job-offer thing really makes it all worth it!
What to do for fun Rolla is a tiny Midwest town, so most of the fun activities are centered around the Missouri S&T campus. There are lots of student organizations, from reading to spelunking. Finding where you fit in is really easy here. If you're looking for off campus stuff, there are a lot of beautiful hiking areas outside of town.
Food and Dining There are lots of dining options both on and off campus. You are required to have a Chartwell's Food Service meal plan if you live on campus, which isn't the best. However, there is a large variety of restaurants, coffee shops and cafes all around town that even out the not-so-good cafeteria food.
Dorm Life Dorm life here is great, and you can find your niche pretty easily. If you want more private, quiet rooms, the Residential College is amazing. If you're looking for a more commercial dorm experience, Thomas Jefferson Hall is a great dorm.
Academic Rigor The classes are hard, yes, but they push you to become the best you can be.
Tips for prospective students You have to work really hard here, but it definitely pays off in the long run. Just keep telling yourself that graduates from Missouri S&T have a higher average starting salary than Harvard graduates!
In three sentences The best school in the Midwest for engineering and sciences. The job placement rate is spectacular, and you are almost guaranteed a job upon graduation. An excellent place to get an excellent education.

Dorm Life With only 6000 undergraduates and 21 fraternities, Greek life is a very common choice and usually preferred to dorms
Tips for prospective students Apply early to get those scholarships provided by the campus, and get to know your professors!
In three sentences Great opportunities for all students. Smaller school = more attention. Specializes in science and engineering, so jobs are easily obtained after graduation.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The food is pretty gross. Rayl cafeteria is the worst but they have soft serve ice cream. Its tolerable but not great, you get used to it.
Dorm Life The dorms are not the best but I met all my friends there. Leave your door open so ppl are more likely to come in and be friendly.
Academic Rigor The adademics are very difficult. They are managable though, just do your work. You will fail at this school if you dont go to class.
Tips for prospective students Always do your homework the day it is assigned. Get involved with as many activities as you can because that is how you meet people. Study hard but always find time to hang out with your friends because they dont last forever.
In three sentences Missouri S&T is a great school that prepares you for the real world work place. The instructors actually care if you learn the information. Its a great school to learn academics as well as life lessons.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Don't apply if you hate math and science majors unless you are simply doing it for location purposes.
What to do for fun I have found numerous parks around the Rolla area that will be great for weekend getaways when my brain needs a break. There's also a few motocross tracks within two hours from campus.
Dorm Life They offer great apartments for those who may not like the idea of a roommate.
Academic Rigor The class schedules are no where near the bore of required high school classes, but they aren't easy either.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Hardly anything bad happens but if anyone wanted to it would not be hard.
Greek Life Yup.
Clubs and Activities Tons to choose from and easy to start.
Great for these types of students All.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If you love drinking and disorderly conduct stay for St. Pats.
Bang for the buck No idea, they say it's great but there's no real guidance when it comes to getting internships and the stuff that matters.
What to do for fun Well if you like to drink there's plenty of that, don't be afraid to ask anyone for help on that. There's hunting grounds like 20 min drive away. Humans VS Zombies once a semester. That's literally it.
Food and Dining Great at first, then gets worse exponentially.
Dorm Life Nice enough people, but the food is terrible and the housing is totally not worth it.
Academic Rigor This is the big leagues; take it seriously.
Tips for prospective students Get out of dorms ASAP. Always do your assignments and study even when you think you don't need too.
In three sentences Reslife is terrible; get out of the dorms ASAP. Everyone says they want to help but really they do not. It's a lot dumber than you think it is.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are emergency telephones located all over campus, and the campus police are readily available if you need anything, even if it's just someone to walk you home late at night.
Clubs and Activities There are so many options to choose from, and they all build a sense of community and learning.
Great for these types of students Great for students who love math, science, or engineering. Students who do the best here are those who don't mind being a bit dorky on occasion.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Patrick's Day is a huge celebration at our school. The entire week of St. Pat's there are activities on and off campus devoted to kicking back and having a good time. We even get a couple days off of classes!
Bang for the buck The price is relatively low for the quality of education one receives at Missouri S&T. The room and board prices are a little high, but there are many off campus housing options for juniors and seniors, as well as campus approved housing options for everyone.
What to do for fun A lot of people at Missouri S&T take the easy path of playing video games with friends in all of their free time. I choose, instead to get involved in organizations. There are many fine arts groups, professional groups for nearly every occupation, fraternal organizations, a myriad of student design teams, and more.
Food and Dining There are three main dining hall options. Two are buffet, and one is not. The buffet halls are a much better value, but the food isn't always high quality. The other has delicious food, but a lot of it is greasy. Eating there every day can be very bad for you if you don't make wise choices.
Dorm Life The dorms are comfortable, relaxed environments. Some have tighter knit communities than others. I highly recommend Thomas Jefferson Hall. It is newly renovated, and the community atmosphere is unmatched.
Academic Rigor This school is tough. But the difficulties are what show you that you're getting an education that is actually worth the time and money you put into it.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in more than one organization when you come. It's a great way to build your resume, get to know people, and have something fun to look forward to every week. Never be afraid to ask for help. This school is challenging, but there are so many people ready and willing to help if you just ask for it.
In three sentences Missouri S&T was the perfect choice for me. The teachers really care about the students' education, and create challenges, but then help students overcome those challenges. There are hundreds of ways to get involved on campus and get to know a lot of remarkable and driven people.

Tips for prospective students Take the time out to research all the disciplines offered.Do what makes you happy and fits your personality type. The money will be great. However, have a career that you love.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police definitely try to keep things safe, but in general the campus doesn't have much for safety issues. You should be able to feel safe here.
Greek Life Greek life is the best. There is so many fraternities and sororities on campus and they are all wonderful! I promise it is something to look in to.
Clubs and Activities There are so many organizations to get involved it. Tons of fun only or social ones and a great number of professional organizations.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Saint Pat's. St. Patrick's day is the big holiday at campus and there is no way to describe it. You just have to experience it.
What to do for fun Join Greek life! Get involved with organizations because they are tons of fun. As far as things to do in the area, outdoorsy stuff is pretty much it.
Food and Dining As with any food and cafeteria, there are always the mishaps, but in general everything is really good. There is always a good variety and a few amazing places to eat on campus.
Dorm Life The dormitories are really fun and a great way to meet friends that can last a lifetime. Also, it is great that the cafeterias are really close to the dorms and there are easy access printers.
Academic Rigor These classes really put you to the test. You have to make sure that the major you have chosen is right for you. It is possible to pass with flying colors though!
Tips for prospective students Number one rule is study hard! Always remember that there are many resources at your disposal. Also, remember that if you want to switch your major, there are so many other science degrees available!
In three sentences Missouri S&T is an amazing school with amazing people and great opportunities. There are so many people, including teachers and counselors, who are there for your success. This college is a great place to pursue a science degree.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want an engineering degree. Students who want a science/technology non-engineering degree, to a lesser extent.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus St. Pat's and the week that leads to it is commonly associated with hangovers.
Bang for the buck Rated pretty highly in the bang for buck category, US colleges are unnecessarily expensive, but this one will require you to go into less debt than most.
What to do for fun Party at frats if you're into that sort of thing. Otherwise, you make your own fun.
Food and Dining Two stars for variety alone, there is no quality to be had here. There's a soft-serve ice cream machine and plenty of drink choices so you'll never be thirsty or wanting ice cream. It's all buffet style, so you can have as much as you want, but you probably won't want much.
Dorm Life Residential Life always puts on a bunch of events, the lounges on each floor are furnished pretty well. I live in TJ which was recently renovated so the rooms are pretty nice, the bathrooms are decent. Elevators break once in a while so get used to using stairs.
Academic Rigor It may seem pretty lax at first, but once you get out of gen eds it can be pretty rough. As long as you put forth the effort you will see a good return with your grades.
Tips for prospective students Don't miss any classes if you can help it (pay attention in class, take notes), get your GPA/ACT scores up to grab good scholarships from the school itself. Go to office hours if you really need help, listen to instructor's advice on how to solve problems and how to prepare for tests.
In three sentences Good college for science and technology related majors, lots of engineering majors (all of them ABET accredited). Small class sizes for most courses, instructors are friendly and easily reachable during office hours. Only downsides are the lack of girls on campus and the town is pretty small (not a bad thing in my opinion).

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've always felt really safe, even when walking back to my dorm at 1am from the library after a long day of studying.
Greek Life I'm not personally involved but many of my friends are and they love it, so if it's something you're interested in I would encourage you to go for it.
Clubs and Activities I really think that there is something for everyone, and once you get involved in one organization, it's only too easy to get more involved.
Great for these types of students Missouri S&T is primarily a school for those interested in science and engineering. However, there are a lot of other great programs as well, like the business and humanities programs.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The biggest event on campus is Saint Patrick's Day and we get a 2 day recess to celebrate, although festivities usually last about 2 weeks. There are all sorts of games and fun things to do and every year celebrations conclude with a parade and concert.
Bang for the buck If you live in Missouri, it's a really good deal. I also have some friends from outside Missouri who said that this school was cheaper than other options back home.
What to do for fun For fun, my friends and I like to take road trips to St. Louis or the Lake of the Ozarks which are close enough for a day trip. There are a lot of great outdoors activities around Rolla.
Food and Dining The food isn't that great in my opinion, but most people enjoy it. It really depends on the kind of food you are used to eating.
Dorm Life The Residential Life staff puts in a lot of effort to make sure that students are getting involved outside the classroom and making lasting friendships. All the housing options are really nice and the living communities are what you make of them.
Academic Rigor Some of the classes can be really challenging, especially if you've never been exposed to the material. There are however, help sessions available for almost every class. For the classes that don't have a help session, the professor is more than willing to help you out as long as you communicate with them.
Tips for prospective students No matter where you go to school, it's important to get involved outside of the classroom because you will build a good network that can be really useful once you graduate.
In three sentences It's a really good school with great teachers that really care about making sure you get a good education. The atmosphere of the school is open and it's very easy to get involved in extracurriculars.

Great for these types of students This universtiy is great for students that are willing to study all the time. It takes a lot of determination to stay up with the school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus On of the most popular events is St. Patrick's day. The campus goes crazy with it during the week of. There are various things to do during St. Pats week and it all ends with a huge parade.
Bang for the buck You pay for a great education. The school is notable for engineering and everyone knows it. ITs not just the name you are paying for, you get a great education as well.
What to do for fun For fun, there isn't much to do in the city however, there are always people hanging out and it is not hard to find these people. If you are going to Rolla for a party school, don't. People here are focused on school and parties are usually only found on the weekends.
Food and Dining The campus offers three different dinning facilities and a coffee shop. The food is decent at each. Also, the city of Rolla offers many places that are close with good food that is affordable.
Dorm Life The dorm life is what to be expected in a place full of nerds. It is not uncommon to find multiple video game parties. People are a little socially shy, but are for the most part polite and willing to chat.
Academic Rigor The universtiy challenges you every step of the way. There is a reason companies look for Rolla graduates. Its because they know the level of education provided here is far superior to most.
Tips for prospective students If you are thinking about school at Missouri University of Science and Technology, I would like to tell you, come prepared. This college takes off running from the start and you need to be ready, or you will fall behind. Be prepared to dedicate most of you time to studies.

So, I have two meals a day Monday through Friday and then one meal a day on Saturday and Sunday. I provide food for myself the rest of the time. The food is good too, we usually get it catered.
Dorm Life Dorm life is the best! You will never have a minute where something exciting isn't going on. There are very affordable and clean all the time. And all the furniture is very sturdy.
Academic Rigor This academic classes here are very hard and you have to work to get what you want and to be successful.

Bang for the buck My mom and dad divorced when I was real young. My mom works two jobs to help pay for my schooling. This is one chance for college I have, and you bet I'm going to work hard and make my family proud.
What to do for fun Hangout with my friends and eat!
Food and Dining Its great, gather up your friends and go to one of the dining halls and enjoy.

Academic Rigor MO S&T is a challegening program. You will have hours of home work each night. However, the University offers many study session and groups that help keep you on track. They weekends are a great time to get caught up and relax.
Tips for prospective students Stay strong, enjoy, work hard, and build new friendships. All the hard work will pay off at the end.

What to do for fun There is not much in the area but there is bowling, nature activities, and the schools programs hold some fun activities.
Food and Dining There are three locations: The Havener Center, a cafeteria in the quad, and a cafeteria in TJ. Like most cafeterias they have there good and bad days.
Dorm Life There are three options: The quadrangle, Thomas Jefferson, and Residential College. The quad and RC are close to campus and TJ is a little farther from everything but not much.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging but it will do a great job preparing you,
In three sentences MS&T has a strong engineering program that guarantees most students a job right after graduation. The classes are vigorous but are sure to prepare you for the job world. The campus is small and beautiful.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I dare you to be a student and miss out on St. Patty's day here. You will not be disappointed by the party they throw.
Food and Dining Really don't have enough meals under my belt here to say. They could use a couple more restaurants in my opinion, and a couple more open kitchens wouldn't kill 'em. But that's just because I like to cook.
Dorm Life There is plenty of choice here. Though it is a little scattered across campus. But you can't really complain compared to other enormous campuses where it's a ten mile hike to get to class.
Academic Rigor They'll tell you front up, the brilliant are average here. They'll push you to your breaking point. Be ready for it.
Tips for prospective students Visit this place. Talk to the people. Fall in love with it!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students inquisitive, technological, dedicated, driven, and friendly students will thrive here. smarts are appreciated, but if you work hard and ask nicely, you can have the world.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus go to their website and look up past st. patrick's day stuff-- it seems really cool and involved; he is the decided patron saint of engineers, so i believe them to be justified in their celebrations.
Bang for the buck this school seems incredibly reasonable from what i've seen so far. it is only around 20k a year instead of more around the 40k i have seen as the norm for other engineering schools (the 20k is referencing in-state tuition). there are a few fines and fees, mostly for computer usage based on class hours, which seem reasonable, especially when tutoring is free and encouraged.
Food and Dining i know that they use chartwells' dining services in their cafeterias. they're okay but not great--far from home cooked but incredibly above high school food. i was there in the summer and ate; i am told that during the main part of the year it is much better, though much more crowded. each dining hall also has its own schedule, and none are open 24/7.
Academic Rigor trust me, the rigor of this school is great, but so is the reward. study hard, read ahead, do the homework.
Tips for prospective students talk to someone who goes to this school or attend one of s&t's functions and ask questions. write them down beforehand as well. don't be hesitant and apply for every scholarship that you can!
In three sentences this school seems pretty awesome. it has a different atmosphere--everyone seems so smart and so together, it's just unreal. the campus has its history, old but filled with many great minds and a lot of the thirst for knowledge.

What to do for fun rolla has a lot of parks and great jogging/biking trails. the movie theater is okay, there are better ones about half-an-hour away that have 3-d. there's a roller skating rink with a decent arcade and laser tag.
Food and Dining there is a good variety of good and reasonably priced restaurants in rolla. there isn't much of an ethnic variety, but what there is is good.
Academic Rigor from what i have heard from mst students, the course work is pretty rigorous, depending on the major and what they learned in high school.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Missouri S&T is a great school for engineering students as they offer several programs of study to specialize in.
Tips for prospective students If you are unsure of the degree plan you want please chose a degree where you specialize. Do not get a degree where you can go in many directions when you graduate. Chose something like engineering or accounting for example. When you graduate you will be an engineer or an accountant. This will allow you to stay in the same career field your entire career.
Bang for the buck The tuition has proved to be very expensive, however I have learned that the school is known worldwide for its engineering programs. The classes are great, so yes it is a good value.
Am enjoying being here I am a distance student but have visited the campus and the area of Rolla. The campus proved to be very easy to get around and the area of Rolla was great.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This is a great school for people looking for an engineering major, it has a wide range to choose from. The school is for anyone really looking for a career in the science or technology fields like the school's name implies.
Tips for prospective students Do the homework its the best way to learn the material because some of the teachers are not the best at teaching but you can expect that with any college. The school provides things called LEAD sessions which are basically walk-in tutoring sessions if you need help in a subject. Study for exams even if you never had to in high school, college is a different ballpark I learned that the hard way after failing some exams.
Bang for the buck You will definitely get the best bang for your buck if you are coming to this school for an engineering major. The school has career fairs every semester and it helps people get summer jobs while in school to help pay for college.
Am enjoying being here I wasn't sure coming here if I would enjoy being here because I didn't know anyone in Rolla. I was the only one from my graduating class that came here but I joined a fraternity and it was the best decision I have every done. I met a lot of new people and made friends that I will have for the rest of my life.
Am learning a lot You will learn a lot at this school. At first you will learn some more in depth math and physics but when you get all that out of the way and can start learning what you actually want to learn, the classes for your intended major.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you're a science geek, math geek, computer geek you'll LOVE Rolla. Among the most popular extracurricular activities here are student design teams. These are teams of students that build engineering marvels: solar cars, solar houses, F1 racing cars, fast human powered machines, satellites, etcetera, etcetera. These are the kinds of students that thrive here at S&T, and the kinds of classmates and peers that you will constantly be interacting with. If a student-run organization that genetically engineers bacteria for competitions is the kind of thing that sends shivers down your spine, this is the place for you.
Tips for prospective students Although S&T offers a few majors in History and English, it's really an engineering and science school at its core. I know a few humanities majors here, but usually they attend for reasons other than the curriculum (baseball, living local, etc.) I recommend coming here to study science or technology. That said, it's important to know that science is something that you prospective students should know you're interested in; maybe it's something you did well in in high school. At any rate, strong math skills are a MUST, and the lowest math class offered here is algebra. The next lowest is calculus I.
Bang for the buck I assume it's cheaper here at MS&T than at Mizzou, but a good 15 credit hours' tuition will cost a pretty penny (somewhere around $5000 depending on the year). There are several exceptions, but generally for the first two years students are required to live in university housing (tack on another $10,000 a semester). Money aside, a student here not only gets the five star education he/she pays for, but an incredible array of student resources (24/7 computer access, 24 hour library, work/study program) as well as helpful professors and academic advisors. You get what you pay for.
Am enjoying being here Aside from learning, the community of students at Rolla is impressively diverse and attractive. A student here can choose from hundreds of student organizations based on whatever interests they come with. I personally enjoy cave exploring with the MSM Spelunkers and juggling with the UMR juggling club. There are multitudes of organizations for multitudes of different people, and plenty of ways to get involved with the community. It's almost difficult not to make friends!
Am learning a lot I came into Missouri S&T hoping to become a mathematician. I found that it wasn't hard to get involved in extracurricular studies and research for free. I feel like (as opposed to high school) MST is a totally learning oriented school, where knowledge is freely shared and research is for everyone. In my first semester here I had the feeling of attending lectures from Pythagoras himself in the ancient Greek museums of antiquity. It's really a unique and amazing experience.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Question-askers, those who care about their grades, those who want quality information rather than just to get through a course, those who can take a hefty workload to be better prepared for the future.
Tips for prospective students If you live in Missouri and want either a degree in chemistry, biology, computer science, or engineering this is the place to go. There are also degrees for English, psychology, and history. Have fun in Rolla and open up to people to enjoy the college experience.
Bang for the buck With the small class sizes and the way the professors care for your grade, I would definately say this school is worth the money. As long as your dedicated to learning all of the resources you could possibly need are there.
Am enjoying being here Rolla is a great place to be. The small community is very nice and there isn't a whole lot of rush like there is in St. Louis. There are also plenty of activities to get into while your here. If your into sports, but don't want to devote all of your time to being on a school team, there are intramural sports that go on all year. I was on the intramural soccer and football teams. As well as a few others. There are sports from softball all the way to billiards. Also the campus mood is, well, nerdy. If you are a fan of dungeons and dragons or any video games or having week long games of humans vs zombies, this is the place for you.
Am learning a lot The Professors here really care about your success and are always available for you to ask questions. The classes can be pretty challenging, but if you are willing to put some time into your studies, (which you should be since its college and you will wind up doing it anyways) you will do great here! It is easy to learn when you always know someone who can help.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students You should visit the school as soon as possible to make sure that you feel comfortable in the environment before you sign up
Bang for the buck At the high cost of schooling now a days, it is important to students to find the type of school that will fulfill their needs as well as not breaking the bank in the process. Rolla is just that. It is a less expensive school, but a good percent of the countrys top engineers and scientists come from Missouri S&T.
Will enjoy being here The environment is super friendly down in Rolla

Tips for prospective students Start as far ahead as you can. There are a lot of interesting classes to take here.
Am enjoying being here It's a fun time. Not your big school atmosphere but I have a great time.
Am learning a lot Whether you are taught in class or have to fin out information on your own you have to learn to pass so one way or another you will end up learning a lot.

Bang for the buck Seems a bit excessive for the general education I am receiving so far. Should get better though. In state tuition is pretty decently priced.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Engineers. This school gives you the knowledge to be successful in whichever area you're interested in. And the have quite a lot of engineering departments. Nerds. Hard workers. Team players. Hands-on learners. Boy to Girl ration - 5:1 - Ladies, must I say anymore?
Tips for prospective students Being a nerd is a good thing here. Not only do the teachers expect and encourage the best in you, but other students motivate you as well. Join study groups and don't be afraid to attend tutoring sessions or meet with your teachers. It's going to take a lot of work; this school prepares you, they don't simply give you your grade. It is complete possible to succeed though. Read your textbooks and do your work and it will work out great.
Bang for the buck This school prepares you incredibly well for what you plan on pursuing. Not to mention, anything you have fun doing is going to be worth the money.
Am enjoying being here The teachers and students are friendly and like being here. It makes walking around campus more relaxing. Also there isn't that pressure to go out every night and party. There is always something to do but it's not distracting. Student also are always forming study groups. That's a great opportunity to meet new people, have fun, and get ahead in school all in one.
Am learning a lot The teachers expect your best. You quickly learn what you need to do to succeed and there are numerous resources on campus to help. Many of the teachers are willing to work through a problem you may have if you just take the time to meet with them. There are also great study sessions with individual students or class study groups (LEAD). The material you learn sticks with you and most classes even build of what you learn in others.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Study alot dont just study till you think you got it down study till you cannot get it out of your head. The professors or mainly the TA's are all about being way to specific on quizzes and test.
Bang for the buck No, the school dosent seem to care about student funding only abou.t gaining money so they try to bleed you dry with lots of fees that make no sense.
Am enjoying being here This school is filled with nice people, but most of incoming freshman are extremely immature the dorms are not that great the food is worse than cafeteria food. But at least they have alot of clubs for you to participate in.
Am learning a lot The material that you learn is really review from your high school classes, you occasionally learn something new but not that much.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Self-Motivated, Team Players, Leaders, Great communicators, and great listeners.
Tips for prospective students Study, study, study! You may have breezed through high school with straight A's, but I can assure you that wont happen at MS&T. The curriculum is challenging but worth while. Putting effort into the material you will learn at MS&T will help you to do better in school and succeed in a career.
Bang for the buck I came to college to get an education and I am certainly getting that here. For the cost, MS&T is a very great school choice. There are similar schools that I looked at that cost upwards of $45,000 every year! MS&T is an exceptional school for the cost.
Am enjoying being here Rolla is a very quiet community. The rural setting keeps distractions to a minimum. If a student wants to have fun there are many outdoor activities that are local to Rolla, both on and off campus. If a student likes city life, Rolla is only an hour and a half from St. Louis and about an hour away from Columbia.
Am learning a lot The professors at MS&T push students hard to accel. The courses are difficult but worthwhile. There are multiple oppurtunities to recieve help such as Teacher Office hours and study groups. All of these oppurtunities are focused on helping students. You must show that you are doing work, they will not simply do this work for you. Teachers and peers are not the only option for help, graduate students are often willing to help students who seek assistance and show effort. There are some assigned hours that they may help students during, but if you are having trouble they are usually just a phone call away.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Nearby students interested in an English degree Students wanting to go into engineering; computer, nuclear, mechanical, electrical... Students wanting to go into Computer Science Students who like the fact that football players actively talk about the history of lasers as part of a debate between scientists and engineers during lunch.
Tips for prospective students Missouri S&T may be continuing to renovate their dorms; if they are doing this the year you are to come in as a freshman, they may put you in the Rolla Inn (they've done this to us this year and the freshmen before me), an old Howard-Johnson inn. It's not... the best... but it builds character. And it's temporary. Regardless of where you stay, though, as advice for anyone going to college for the first time, remember these things: Attend classes. A lot of the classes your first year will have their grade based in some part on your attendance. I know in high school you were told your professors don't care but only your test grades, but I guess they're trying to bridge the two here. Also, MEALS ARE NOT ALWAYS SERVED. If you're going Greek, this may not apply to you, but if you are on campus housing, none of the dining facilities are always open. You have to find which are open when, if you want to eat out on days that the closest one is not open or go to another dining facility. Many are the times I have gone without a meal before it sank in; I could not just go in like I do at my house and get a sandwich. And nothing makes studying harder than a growling stomach louder than a jackhammer waiting for the pizza to come.
Bang for the buck So far I do think this place is worth my money.
Am enjoying being here I do like it here. The intelligence is something to admire. I do not mean to dog others, but there is a kind of freshness here that was not so much in high school. It is like my mind can breathe. Also, the town is COMPACT, not SMALL. It is very full but not fat. This makes it relatively easy to get to places and find what you need.
Am learning a lot In the math class I took, I learned an interesting learning style; the math I'd had before in High School (like in a summary) but I learned how to make things stick very well in MS&T's math class. My focus is in Computer Science. While I've had programming experience before, the pace of the class is incredible and by the end of Semester One we are now pretty much at the extent of my knowledge. So, given the pace we were at, I expect to learn a lot Semester Two.

Tips for prospective students If you plan on attending this school, be ready to work. You definitely need to be sure that what you plan on majoring in is what you want to do, because it's going to become your life for the next 4 years. Possibly 5 if you plan on pursuing a career in engineering. No matter where you go though, know why you're there and be willing to work towards what you want.
Bang for the buck Your money is definitely well-spent at MS&T. You get intense training in your career field and you really know what you're doing by the time you get out there. Employers flock to this school because of that fact and the career fairs we have draw over 300 major employers looking to hire. Also, just the benefits the MS&T name can get you after college are worth the money.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy MS&T for the most part, but there are a few things that aren't so great about it. The work load seems to really build up sometimes and the Male to Female ratio is 3:1 to name a few. Things like the annual St. Pat's celebration always make up for stuff like that though.
Am learning a lot The classes here at MS&T will definitely teach you everything you need to know about your decided career field. The courses are very in-depth and challenging so if you want to pass you have no choice but to learn the material frontwards and backwards. Many of the courses also teach you how to work well in groups, which is a skill you will need if you plan on a career in engineering.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those who want to pursue an engineering degree. This school gives you the right background and companies flock to that.
Tips for prospective students Balance work and study. Don't study yourself to death, but then again don't completely neglect your school work. Find people to make study groups. Friends with the same classes always works. Enjoy your college experience. It's four (or five) years of your life that you'll never be able to get back. Make the best of it through having fun and most importantly by studying hard.
Bang for the buck This school works very hard to prepare the students for the work world. The students leave Missouri S&T with a good technical background.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love it here! The students here are great. If you're ever lost just ask anyone and he/she will guide you. Students here care about each other. You meet people with the same interests because this is mostly an engineering school. This school always has something to do.
Am learning a lot The classes are tough, but when you get that good grade, you know you earned it and really knew the material.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students To get good grades in classes takes a lot of self motivation. Anything you do not learn in class you must learn from the book or from a tutor. Tutors are not a bad thing, trust me, sometimes its the extra kick you need to succeed in your future classes. Also the library is a great place to study there are study rooms on the third floor and reference books for just about everything, also it is open until midnight.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere here at Rolla is awesome. The people around are always willing to help and there are many many study groups to find and join.
Am learning a lot The Professors really push you to the hardest extent. They expect you to do your homework the first time and take school very seriously. However, if you finish your homework and work at it you will learn more than you expected and the way most professors teach the material it is guaranteed to stick.
