If you're of an ethnicity other than black or white it's best you search for a different school, the people here are very judgmental and unwelcoming. You will have a difficult time here.
Read MoreI have to agree that everything concerning college is so overwhelming at first. When I started at MTSU, I felt completely lost, but everywhere I went I asked questions, and I always got the answers. It is okay to not know but instead just ask someone and don't be scared. It will get you far. Everyone is expecting it anyways. I do recommend, especially if planning to attend college after few years, to get yourself familiar with using a calculator for algebra class and revisiting the writing skills and format. It will make your semester go way smoother. For those considering MTSU, but not sure about paying for out of state tuition, I recommend calling the department you are planning to study in, because there is most likely an opportunity to pay in- state tuition. It is mostly for majors that are not offered at colleges in the state you live in.
Read MoreThis university is great for students who do not wish to go into debt to pay for school while still receiving an education. Unless you don't want to walk for what it seems like miles, you should arrive early for a parking spot. Always be prepared for the unexpected, especially the rain. The rain here can be super spontaneous. You don't curl your hair to walk into class with a fro. Be prepared to walk before you register for class research, your professor. Don't wait the last minute to choose your classes, and have to take what's left to choose from. I decided to wait for the last minute, and now I have a 4 o'clock class. In the classroom, it is quiet and dark, which causes me to go to sleep. Do be the one to fall asleep while sitting in the front row. If you know, you can test out of a course, do it, it helps save money in the future.
Read MoreOne thing that is a must to learn is getting used to the traffic of Murfreesboro, the town is almost always busy so knowing when to leave for different events or just when to go for class is most certainly necessary. Another thing is the weather, of which I will always testify that this state has a messed-up sense of humor on. Hot then cold, dry to wet, and from foggy backroads to ragging storms while driving in town, we have it all. For anyone coming from a very regular climate type of area, it can be something that will take getting used to.
Read MoreIf you're sure about attending MTSU these tips will definitely make your experience a bit easier. First off, everyone knows that parking can be a nightmare especially if you commute to school. I suggest learning the bus routes or leaving home way earlier than usual to get a spot that's on the side of campus as your last class of the day. Secondly, I suggest taking a tour of the campus to familiarize yourself with the different buildings, restaurants, and parking lots. This campus is nearly 500 acres so you want to avoid being lost without direction. Lastly and most importantly, do some research on your professors and get a sense of how they are in the classroom. You want to look for professors that fit your learning style to give you the best chance to pass the class. Without a doubt following these tips will make your college journey bearable.
