What to do for fun They have a beautiful gym with an inside track and a very large pool.
Food and Dining There is a lot of vegetarian and vegan food, but there food is very flavorful and provides you with a lot of energy. There is also no caffeine so you wont find any energy drinks or coffee. There are plenty of restaurants and food courts around loma linda
Dorm Life I live off campus but what I do know is that the dorms are not co-ed, and if your under 21 its recommended you live in the dorms, how strict they are on that i am not to sure.
Academic Rigor Since they are a Seven Day Adventist university they are not like any other University. they have strict dress code and life style that they do enforce.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to study! The programs are intense but everyone is willing to help you. Learn how to manage your time and stay focused on why you are there!
In three sentences LLU is a seven-day Adventist school, the school only allows for so many students to be in a program and you are with those same students for the duration of the year. Which is good it allows you to get quality education and the staff is very helpful.

Categories Comments What to do for fun You can go to the movies with your friends on the weekends. Also you can have worship with christians just like you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus for the most part is safe. Usually when out at night, other students are out to, whether going to the dorms, coming back from the library, or going somewhere.
Great for these types of students Depends on the type of program that the student signs up for, but for nursing it is challening and requires time management. Give priority to school work and then going out to have fun. The school does expect alot from its students and wants to see them do good.
Food and Dining The school does not provide school--it does not have meal plans that you can sign up for. There are place to eat nearby, such as the hospital's cafeteria, a cafeteria in the bookstore, or other small shops around. Students must provide their own meals.
Dorm Life The dorm is usually quiet, which makes is a good place to study, however the dorm does have several activity scattered throughout the quarters that the residents can participate in such as during the week once every so weeks, the dorms provides dinner, which is always delicious, as much as you want, and they provide dessert (like ice cream, pies, cake, etc). The first sunday of the month they also offer breakfast after a small worship gathering, in which a guest speaker comes in and talks about things that young women can relate to. The dorm itself has a gym to work out in or the school's bigger gym is at a walking distance from the dorm. The different schools are all at a walking distance of the dorms, which makes it easy.
Academic Rigor The teachers are there to help students and also the nursing program offers a tutoring center or students that already took that class offer study groups, which are very helpful. However, it the courses are hard and the tests, from the very first course, are challening because from the very beginning, the school begins to train students to think like nurses, which is not easy--there are alot of things to consider when trying to help a patient. As the courses progress, what was learned from previous classes need to be applied to new courses, they cannot be forgotten because new stuff and old stuff go together.
Tips for prospective students The school does have a reputation of being a good school and the school knows this, so they do tend to push you hard during tests or assignments. The grading system is different from other schools--when getting a grade that would be an A in other school for the university it might be a B+ or A-. The school wants its students to succeed and the teachers are aware that they give you a lot of information, so they try to help you along. However it is a lot of material the program expects you to learn, so from day one learn well what you are learning because as the classes continue alot of what was taught before comes back. If what was learned previous isn't remembered, it slows down the student.
In three sentences The university of Loma Linda is a Seventhday Adventist school that tries to maintain a friendly and helpful campus. The teachers of the school of nursing are enthusiastic about what they are teaching, show interest in their student's learning, and are always more than willing to help their students with any questions or concerns.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Loma Linda is expensive!
Food and Dining It is average, the food at the hospitals are vegetarian but there are local fast food joints and restaurants within 15 minutes of the campus
Academic Rigor Academics are tough but the faculty is always helpful and want to see you succeed
Tips for prospective students Make sure you look into your programs early and get all the pre-requisites that are required done early. Don't be afraid to call and ask as many questions as you'd like. Go take a tour of the campus
In three sentences Loma Linda is great. Everyone that you encounter, students, staff are extremely nice and helpful. Latest Technology is great.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The staff are great, they are always friendly, prompt, and take safety very seriously. I especially enjoy watching the K-9 training sessions.
Greek Life I'm not sure about the rest of the school but the School of Nursing has 'Sigma Theta Tau' which is the honor society you can be invited into as a senior.
Great for these types of students Dedicated, disciplined, self-starter.
Bang for the buck LLU is a wonderful Christian school. Just as the medical center's motto is To Make Man Whole, the instructional, support, and administrative staff make a clear efforts to provide us with education to treat the 'whole person' and not just the physical aspect of medicine.
What to do for fun It is as fun as you want it to be. As a nursing student, I do not have time for any extra curricular activities but I thoroughly enjoy each day at school. Your experience is what you make it.
Food and Dining All the food at LLU is great! If you want meat you have to leave campus however, the food is so good meat is not missed. This is one of the few places where 'vegetarian' does not mean salad.
Dorm Life I have no personal experience in the dorms here or any other school but reports from classmates who dorm make it sound like the 'typical' experience.
Academic Rigor The course work requires exemplary time management. The content is not horribly difficult but there is a lot to learn in a short time (quarter system). LLU is not for you if you think hanging with friends is more important than staying up on reading or studying.
Tips for prospective students Before applying, do your homework; know the school. Have a plan, it may change and that is OK but they like people who have really thought their future out. If you are called for an interview, be real; not what you think they want you to be.
In three sentences Loma Linda University is a leader in both care and academics. The staff goes above and beyond to help each student and fosters a culture of support and encouragement. If you are seeking medical education, LLU is the clear choice.

Categories Comments Greek Life No Greek Life.
Clubs and Activities There are not many club and activities to join.
Great for these types of students Outdoor people and christian students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus This is an SDA school so we celebrate sabbath so everything is closed from Friday sundown till Saturday sundown.
Bang for the buck Tuition is pretty pricey but I have loved my experience here and I think the money is totally worth it.
What to do for fun Get together with friends and make an intramural team, go to vespers and take a walk around campus. There's not much to do around but go to the theaters and dinners .
Food and Dining Everything is vegetarian food, no meat or caffeine is sold in campus.
Dorm Life Dorm life is not as fun as at other schools but the deans try to make events/feedings in order for the girls to mingle.
Academic Rigor Course work is duable but it requires you to do a lot of studying. Exams required you to really know the topics in order to use your critical thinking skills and choose the correct answer. Because at many times there are two correct answers but one is better.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to work hard and to be challenged.
In three sentences One of the best nursing schools in California. Professors really care about their students and try to get to know us in a personal basis. The school as well provide their nursing students to do rotations at LLU Children's Hospital, LLU Medical Center, LLU Urgent Care and LLU Behavioral Medicine.

Categories Comments Campus Safety very safe, small town but some surrounding areas outside of loma linda are kind of rough.
Greek Life non-existant
Clubs and Activities llu has several religious, volunteer and athletic organizations as well as many professional associations and clubs.
Great for these types of students religious, multicultural, health-conscious, health/service/science career-oriented, athletic, those valuing a balanced lifestyle, volunteering/service-oriented, students with families, part-time students with full-time jobs.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the campus is rather socially-conservative, so you won't find any kind of unusual traditions, such as people running around in their underwear before finals, that you might find at other universities.
Bang for the buck as for any private university, llu education is expensive but is a great investment considering that llu graduates are very competitive in securing the best-paying jobs in the healthcare and science fields after graduation. undergraduates students considering graduate schools are also very successful in gaining acceptance to top graduate schools.
What to do for fun if you like exercise and outdoors, the drayson center has state of the art athletic facilities with many fields and a very large outdoor pool with a water slide. nearby mountains offer great hiking trails and the nice weather year-round is perfect for riding bikes around the city. students with a car can also venture out to the local movie theater, shopping areas, water park, and snowy mountains during winter. orange county beaches and theme parks are an hour drive when there's no traffic. llu offers discount student tickets for nearby attractions such as six flags magic mountain, knott's berry farm, disneyland, universal studios, san diego zoo and seaworld, and many more.
Food and Dining since llu is a seventh day adventist institution, all of the food and dining options are vegetarian and healthy. there are many delicious options available in the student cafeteria and cafes on campus. the university-affiliated grocery store, loma linda market, also provides a vast selection of fresh, healthy foods and locally-grown produce. the only downside is that these establishments close around 6 or 7 pm and are not open on saturday. nearby off-campus dining options include several asian restaurants, panera bread, bj's and some fast-food chains.
Dorm Life most students commute or rent private apartments, but there are a few dorm options available. some of the dorms are on top of a hill and have a very beautiful view of loma linda. dorms are separate for males and females. married students and students with families have an option to live in apartment-style dorms. there are also many privately-owned apartments and houses available within walking distance from campus for students. when shared with roommates, this is a very affordable option ($350-500 per person/month).
Academic Rigor the academic rigor is comparable to california's best public universities (ucla, ucsd, ucsf, uc berkeley, ucsb). students study a lot but also find time to enjoy many outside-of-class activities and lead a healthy, balanced lifestyle. in fact, wholeness and a well-balanced lifestyles are one of core values of llu and professors understand that students have a life outside of academics.
Tips for prospective students admission is competitive so it helps to have a strong academic record, especially in the sciences if applying to one of the healthcare programs. having work experience and leadership skills is also a plus. llu also values faith-based service and volunteer work. individuals who are well-rounded, hardworking and have a balanced lifestyle will make successful students at llu.
In three sentences llu is a great university for aspiring healthcare professionals. the university's hospital and many healthcare facilities provide students with great real-world preparation. combined with enthusiastic professors and state of the art learning facilities, it is a winning combination and a great educational investment.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Smaller school so that means more availability with professors and more hands on.
Tips for prospective students It is a great overall school. Do not be intimidated by the fact that it is a Christian school. You will be pleased with the cheap on campus living. Top choice if interested in Health Care field.
Bang for the buck It is a private University so it is expected to be a little more on the pricey side. Yet it is definitely worth the amount for the type of education you get.
Am enjoying being here The people are great here, which makes it easy to get along with. Only reason why not to give it a 5 star is because everything is closed on any given Friday night or Saturday.
Am learning a lot The staff here are very concerned about your learning experience so they provide as many resources as possible. It is a smaller campus so there is never worry about wait time for tutors or appointments with professors.
