    Campus Safety

I have always felt safe on campus since it isn't a closed off campus and is a part of the neighborhood we're located in, but since getting to know the campus police officers I have felt even safer. Campus Police has been doing more in recent semesters to get to know students, so I started going to these events and getting to know them personally rather than just know their faces when they walk around campus. Hearing them talk about what they did before working at Lasell made me feel extremely safe, and knowing that they're all so friendly and wanting to connect with students made me feel even better.

    Greek Life

Per the city of Newton, there is no Greek Life at Lasell.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 70 clubs and organizations at Lasell, and they are always hosting events and ways to get out of your room. I have been involved with a lot of clubs during my time, but you don't have to be involved with the club to participate in the events, so even if being an active club member isn't your thing, you can still enjoy all the fun that comes with the clubs.

Great for these types of students

In my opinion, Lasell is great for shy students. I was extremely shy all my life and going to college was the scariest thought. The classes at Lasell are all capped at 25 students, so not only is it easy to connect with your professors but it is far less intimidating than those 300+ classes they have at other schools. And since Lasell is so small, the party scene is also on the smaller side. While there are definitely parties every weekend and on certain week nights, they aren't everywhere you look and they aren't so loud that they'll make you go crazy in your room. Lasell made it easy for me to begin to open up and come out of my shell, and it wasn't a hard transition from high school since it is the same size as my high school was.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A well known tradition at Lasell is the torchlight parade, which happens at the end of every spring semester. Legacy is a very important concept at Lasell, and with the torchlight parade a graduating senior passes down their legacy (their torch) to an underclassmen to carry with them as they prepare to continue at Lasell. Being asked to accept a torch is an amazing feeling as an underclassmen, and the idea of passing down my legacy makes me excited to be a senior.

    Bang for the buck

I am a completely different person from when I started at Lasell, and I mean that in the best way possible. I am currently a junior and already have a full time position offered to me for when I graduate after my senior year, and I don't have any friends from other schools who can say the same. The opportunities Lasell has given me have transformed me into a very outgoing and confident leader, and with my career I am already seeing how good of a choice Lasell was for me. I was also never the strongest student in high school, but at Lasell I excel in the classroom and it has greatly improved my confidence as well as a lot of skills like public speaking and presenting.

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on, big or small. A lot of clubs on campus host weekly events at different times, there are weekly sporting events year round, the school hosts a lot of events throughout the year and people are always hanging out in the quads and the campus center. I have been very involved on campus and am always running around to different club meetings and events, and if I ever have a day where I feel like I have nothing to do I can almost always find something going on outside of my room, even if it's a group study session in the library.

    Food and Dining

Another feature that holds my heart at Lasell! We have both a traditional dinning hall and a few smaller markets and food options, with my favorite being out 1851 Cafe. 1851 is open from 7am-midnight and genuinely has some of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had, and the staff that work there are the sweetest. For the dinning hall, I really do enjoy the food. There are nights were I may feel disappointed with the main station, but there is always something to have. There are a ton of stations that you can mix and match at, and some stations always have a safety food, like chicken and rice or burgers and fries. The pizza is one of my favorites and you get to know the chefs would make really good grilled cheese. And if you ever have an issue or wish there was a specific food, there is a big bulletin that they check and answer daily. They are very receptive when it comes to feedback and suggestions, and I have been known to request mashed potatoes and see them at dinner the next night.

    Dorm Life

At Lasell, it's not actually "dorms" but residence halls, and while for some that might just be an interchangeable term, the residence halls at Lasell live up to the name. While some are absolutely better than others, all residence halls have a homey feel and are staffed with friendly and caring employees who clean all common spaces every week day. There are also Victorian mansions at Lasell, which are essentially old houses restored to accommodate residence. I have lived in what is considered the worst hall on campus, I have lived in what is considered the best hall on campus, and I have lived in a Victorian mansion, and all of them have been great experiences. As far as the "worst hall on campus", while it did feel cramped at times and was older than other buildings, my roommate and I made the best of it and really loved our room, and when we did experience the occasional issues like a roof leak in the middle of the night, a staff member would jump through hoops to make sure we were taken care of.

    Academic Rigor

If you want to just get by in your classes, it is fairly easy to do so, but if you care about your education and want somewhere where you can be pushed to go above and beyond, most classes I've taken at Lasell have proven to have that extra layer. While sometimes it is definitely challenge to get the top grades, all of my professors so far have done anything they can to help me reach those goals and understand the material far beyond just reciting textbook information.

    Tips for prospective students

Find what you can picture yourself doing here! Aside from the academics and academic opportunities, there are countless ways to get involved on campus and being involved is a huge thing that helped me find my love for Lasell as well as find my passions and help shape me into who I am today.

    In three sentences

Lasell is easily my home away from home. Students, staff and faculty are all very friendly and supportive, and professors will more often than not go out of their way to help you with anything. Lasell may be a smaller school, but it deserves a lot of credit for everything it does for its students.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is top notch. Lasell has a blue light system on campus so that if a student does ever feel unsafe, the blue light offers students a quick and easy way to contact campus police. Campus police are some the best and hardworking men I have ever met. They truly care about the students on campus and even like to create personal relationships with them. On some days they sit in driveways or parking lots to watch over us. They also offer students rides to and from riverside if need be. They are just the best!

    Greek Life

Lasell does not offer Greek Life.

    Clubs and Activities

I don't lie when I say there is a club or activity for everyone! No matter what a student wants to be involved with, whether its familiar or something new, Lasell offers opportunities to all. Lasell really likes for students to be involved in their community. Clubs like SAAC, SGA, 1851 Chronicle, PRIDE and many more allow for students help grow the Lasell community and contribute to more than just academics. Clubs and activities give students something to do with their free time and add it to the resumes!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At the end of every year, Lasell Seniors participate in a TorchLight Walk. Each year seniors are given a torch to either pass on to an underclassmen or as a celebratory sentiment for making it through 4 years. It's a very unusual yet beautiful tradition because during the walk, neighbors come out to see and congratulate the seniors on their hard work. Underclassmen also get the chance to celebrate with some of their closest friends and its just a great way to honor the seniors.

    Bang for the buck

I took a chance on Lasell. I was a transfer student my sophomore year and after spending a year far away from home and at a much bigger school, I wasn't sure how I was going to like Lasell. I can honestly say Lasell felt more like home in a week than my other school did in a year. I've become really involved in my community and have created personal relationships with administrators, professors and students. The classes I've taken have not only prepared me for my future career but also helped me figure out what I want to do after college. The professors are knowledgeable about the subject their teaching and offer networking (internships) opportunities for students. College is an investment and if you want to spend that investment right, Lasell is the place to do it!

    What to do for fun

There is always something happening on campus, whether its weekdays or weekends. There are sporting events, dances, fashion shows, BINGO, and much more that are held for students to attend. Boston, Waltham and Framingham are also close by so if students are ever looking to get off campus and explore, these places give student that chance.

    Food and Dining

I am a picky eater but I can find anything to eat in Lasell's dining hall. I also know a lot of people who have severe allergies to some foods but the dining staff goes above and beyond catering to those who have allergies. There are vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. Every food is also labeled so students know what they are eating.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are spacious and updated. A unique feature of Lasell is the Victorian Mansions that were converted into dorms and offices. The houses have original features like glass stained windows, secret staircases and big, open living rooms to hangout in. There are different styles of dorms but all are very functional and practical for students to live in.

    Academic Rigor

The curriculum can be intense and challenging but never overwhelming. Personally, I always have enough time to do assignments and professors are really great at giving students notice about big projects.

    Campus Safety

I personally have always felt safe on campus. I obviously cannot speak for everyone, but from my personal experience Lasell has felt like a safe home away from home for me for the last 4 years.

    Clubs and Activities

With over 70 clubs on campus it would be hard not to find something to get involved in. There are opportunities for Lasell students to get involved and pursue their passions in so many different ways on campus.

    Bang for the buck

I truly feel that Lasell has prepared me for the future after graduation. My professors have helped me so much to prepare me by giving me the right knowledge and skillset and helping build my professional network. I cannot thank my professors enough for how much they have prepared me going forward.

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on on campus whether it is something our Campus Activities Board has put on for us or an athletic event. There is truly something for everyone here on campus. If there is not something you are interested in doing on campus, Boston is only 8 miles away and very easy to get in and out of from campus.

    Food and Dining

The food at Lasell is pretty good! Obviously it isn't your mom's home cooking, but there really is something for everyone there. I am a vegetarian and I always find something to eat. If there is ever a day a student is struggling to find something to eat for whatever reason, the dining employees are always willing to meet with you and help you find something!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great! I truly have no complaints about it. Most rooms are very spacious and everyone wants to get to know each other and make friends which leads to a positive living environment.

    Academic Rigor

I am very passionate about Lasell's academic philosophy, Connected Learning. In each class you take at Lasell you will be applying what you are learning in the class room to the real world and getting hands on experience. This is the main reason I chose the Lasell and it is truly one of my favorite parts about the school.

    Tips for prospective students

I encourage prospective students to book a tour of Lasell if they have not already. The best way to know if a school is the right fit for you is to actually come to campus. The second I came to Lasell I knew it was the school for me as I hope it is for you too.

    In three sentences

Lasell University prepares students for success while encouraging them to pursue their passions. There are over 70 clubs to choose from on campus making it easy foe students to get involved. Lasell's small class sizes also allow students to develop important relationships with their professors that will help them succeed while in school and after.

    Campus Safety

Campus is located in the middle of a quiet neighborhood in Newton that is already extremely safe. Campus police do a great job of making sure everyone is doing okay and are there for if something does go wrong.

    Clubs and Activities

Something for everyone and its easy to make your own club.

Great for these types of students

Lasell has something for everyone. Our campus is a healthy mix of fashionistas and casual/sporty people.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Marathon Monday is a day where classes are cancelled and we have a big block party in the quad with food/music to cheer on the Boston Marathon runners. We also have our torchlight parade where seniors can pass down their torch and their legacy to an underclassman.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive in general, but Lasell usually gives great financial aid to most students. The experiences I've had and the education I'm receiving are definitely setting me up for life after graduation and that worth every penny.

    What to do for fun

Campus is just a few miles outside of Boston so we're close by to all of the restaurants, stores, and events in the city. We also have some cute restaurants and stores near campus on Commonwealth Ave and Moody St. We're also next to all of the other big Boston Schools so it's easy to go there for a game or party.

    Food and Dining

There's a pretty good variety of food and they try to change the menu items daily. They also have different meal plans and food options if you prefer to go to the Starbucks or market vs. the main dining hall.

    Dorm Life

There's a different style of housing for everyone's personal interests. Majority of the dorms are super modern and have lots of accommodations like full kitchens, lounge rooms, etc.

    Academic Rigor

All of my classes and professors have pushed me to work hard and become a better student. Academically, I'm doing better than I could have ever imagined because of all of the great resources we have at Lasell.

    Tips for prospective students

Find a school that has things you're passionate about like a certain major, club, or sport. Some bigger name schools may seem cool at a glance, but you have to make sure your 4 years there are going to be enjoyable once you're a student there.

    In three sentences

In my past two years at Lasell, I've only had positive experiences. Everyone is always nice and there's always a club or activity for someone. I'm super happy I chose to come here over some of the bigger schools I had on my list.

If the campus police are called, they will be to your location in about a minute tops.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs to get involved with on campus, and a lot of events to go to.

    Bang for the buck

I am paying more than I should be for this education.

    What to do for fun

Lasell is located about half a mile from the green line, and is about an hour by train to Boston. There is Fenway and TD garden, and shopping at the Cambridge mall.

    Food and Dining

The pasta is always cold, and it is always the same food everyday.

    Dorm Life

There is always someone using the laundry. My roommate is crazy, but I can't report it because I would be the one who gets moved.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are not very challenging. I took 17 credits and I had a lot of free time.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you are receiving the most financial aid you can get from the school. If you have to pay a lot to go here, it is not worth it.

    In three sentences

The school is not everything people claim it to be. The school is able to put on a really good face, but the inside is not as nice as they claim. If I could go back, I would consider my other options more heavily.

People get really excited for Bingo night. They have really good prizes like wireless beats, gift cards, stuff like that. Pretty much everyone thinks the mascot is really weird. It's a laser or a torch, no one really knows. It's really scary.

    Bang for the buck

Depends on your program. For fashion, there are lots of opportunities for career advancement. You can help with Polished Magazine. They have cheap day trips to New York City. We just went to Coterie, a fashion trade show. There are random fashion shoots organized on campus.

    What to do for fun

Go into Boston. The T is a 10 min walk away and there are shuttles that will drop you off there. From there it is a 30 min to 1 hour ride into Boston, depending on where you want to go. 30 min to Fenway. It is fun to be able to get off campus, because at a lot of schools you can't unless you have a car. Join a club. Lots of opportunities for different clubs. Polished is a fashion magazine that you can contribute to. Honors club goes on trips and plans fun events. Outdoor Adventure Club does a ski trip and hiking trips.

    Food and Dining

One dining hall, one Starbucks, and an Einsteins on campus. I wish there was another dining hall on campus, or somewhere else to eat dinner on campus. The dining hall food is pretty good and they listen to suggestions.

    Dorm Life

I live in one of the old houses on campus. It's beautiful, and my room is really big. The only downside is that the hot water can be inconsistent. Also laundry is pretty expensive, $1.75 a load.

    Academic Rigor

Freshman level classes aren't too challenging. Classes get more challenging for upperclassmen. You can also do the honors program where you have opportunities and do components.

    Tips for prospective students

Check out campus, learn about opportunities, ride the T and see if you like it

    In three sentences

Small, career-oriented liberal arts college in Newton, Mass. Good fashion program and also has sports management and communications. Short walk to the T to get into Boston.

The quad will be a prime destination your first couple of weeks as a freshman. After that you will have to find parties and hang out indoors because it will get cold.

    Bang for the buck

It is definitely not worth the money for the type of education you get.

    What to do for fun

You can go into the city by taking the green line in from riverside, other than that there is Shaw's and campus which is kind of dead most of the time other than on weekends and Thursdays.

    Food and Dining

Chicken every single day, I cant stand it.

    Dorm Life

If you hang out with the right people you will have a blast here. It is a small school which means that mostly everyone knows each other so hanging out with people and finding things to do is not a problem. Then again, due to it being such a small school, the parties are not that great.

    Academic Rigor

I majored in Business and the classes were way too easy. My math and English classes were indeed challenging but other than those, I was not challenged at all. I don't feel like I learned much if any and it truly was a waste of my money.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are majoring in Athletic Training, Fashion, or Criminal Justice and like small schools, this is a great school for you. It is a cheap school compared to others around Boston but trust me, it is not worth $42,000 if you are a business major.

    In three sentences

It is an extremely small school. Classes are not competitive. The food is awful.

The dining hall was just rebuilt, so it is very nice. There are many options for food, you will never go hungry.

    Dorm Life

I live in one of the newer dorms, and it is suit styled. It is great, we have our own privet bathroom, and sinks in our room. There is a kitchen on my floor, an a common room.

    Academic Rigor

The courses can be challenging, but a lot of them are interesting and fun to take!

    Tips for prospective students

The first week is scary for every freshman, but everyone is in the same boat, so that is the time to make friends. Leave your door open so people can stop by and say hi. Professors here are extremely nice, and understanding.

    In three sentences

Lasell offers many interesting courses, that I plan on participating in. The class sizes are absolutely perfect, I love that all my professors know my name. Campus life is amazing, there are so many things to do!

    What to do for fun

Getting into Boston is easy through public transportation. You may entertain yourself in many ways. There are also movie nights and bingo nights (which give real prizes such as tv's) put on by the Campus Activities Board.

    Food and Dining

The dining experience is repetitive, but it's college. You're supposed to live on Ramen noodles, right?

    Dorm Life

I commute, but from what I hear, dorm life is alright.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty of your experience will depend on the classes that you chose to take. If you enroll in courses that interest you, you shall do well. If a course seems too easy, you may want to speak with your professor.

    What to do for fun

There is so much to do for fun, go hang out with friends, go to one of our many concerts, or just hang out with your roommate and make your own fun. And if that wasn't enough walk five minutes to the T and head into Boston.

    Food and Dining

The food is good, but if you really want a good meal go on the T and head into boston they have some of the best restaurants in the world.

    Dorm Life

The freshman rooms are going to be a tight squeeze, but if you can make it through that your life at Lasell will be great.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are meant to challenge you, no matter where you attend. Make sure you put time aside to study hard, but don't forget to have fun to make that balance.

    Tips for prospective students

Come with an open mind, we may be small in numbers but that doesn't mean that we don't have a lot of fun things to do on campus.

    In three sentences

Lasell is a lovely small, close knit community with tons of support from all of the faculty and students. I give Lasell a 9 out of 10.

    What to do for fun

CAB and The Office of Student Actives does a great job of offering many different events for students to attend on campus. From local bands, speakers, comedians, and sports viewings to discounted tickets to sporting events, shows, and movies.

    Food and Dining

Lasell does offer a variety of food offerings. But the menu does get repetitive throughout the year.

    Dorm Life

There are many different style and types of living arrangements on campus. Res Life staff try and make sure all students needs are met and that students feel comfortable and safe in the home. There are monthly floor events so residents can get to know one another.

    Academic Rigor

Lasell has it own unique way of teaching. Classes can be very difficult. But with Lasell's focus on connected learning students set the bar for projects. Students create there own level of learning.

    Tips for prospective students

Lasell is a great school for students looking to be in a small community. We have a great campus that is very safe. If you have the time, you should attend a Lasell Day or schedule your own campus visit tailored to your needs and likes.

Great for these types of students

This is a BIG fashion and athletic school, if you're interested in either this is a GREAT place to be. They have a huge fashion program with tons of opportunities, like fashion shows and designing clothes for classes. We have two gyms, multiple sports teams, and an amazing program for the sports majors. If you're into sports, we have a lot of school pride and our sports games are always filled up.

    Tips for prospective students

This college is what you make for it. There aren't many opportunities presented to students - you need to go out there and find them. In order to get ahead and really get a lot out of this school, you need to go above and beyond the minimal requirements and search for some good opportunities to get involved, do well in school, find internships, and find jobs.

    Bang for the buck

Lasell gives a lot of scholarships and financial aid, so many don't have to pay full price, but the education here is just about the same level as any state school or community college which you could be paying much less for. I know I'm not getting my money's worth, which is why I plan to transfer.

    Am enjoying being here

I've made some great friends here, and I definitely have a great time with them, but there isn't much to do on campus. We usually end up having to take the Green Line to Boston or just end up sitting around in our dorms. It's a nice area, Newton's a very safe and upscale town - but there isn't anything to do here. I'm involved in various clubs, but most of them overlap each other and it becomes difficult to get involved without feeling overwhelmed and stressed about it.

    Am learning a lot

The courses a very easy. All I do is read books and discuss them in class. Most of the teachers aren't even around much, they're all adjunct, so I can't reach them outside of class easily because they're always teaching somewhere else.

Great for these types of students

Lasell college is great for any type of student. Check it out for yourself!

    Tips for prospective students

You should definitely visit any school you are interested in attending. For me, I was hooked the first time I visited Lasell. It's the perfect school for me. Perfect size, educational program, and especially the people.

    Bang for the buck

In attending Lasell, you get a great education, great living conditions, a variety of athletic and extracurricular opportunities, a buffet every time you go to the cafe, constant social events (including, one of my favorites, dances), and great facilities like the gym, the library, and the campus center.

    Am enjoying being here

When finding a school, one of the most important aspects is location. Lasell is located in the lovely town of Newton, ranking 4th in the safest cities in the USA. The campus is about a 10-15 minute walk from one side to the other. The dorms are comfortable and the student life is exciting. Athletic events are big, especially our basketball games, in which everyone gets dressed up in our college colors. Also, the T is a 5 minute walk from campus so you can always ride into Boston.

    Am learning a lot

Lasell College offers many appealing and intriguing courses designated to benefit your knowledge of your major. Also, the student to teacher ratio is roughly 15:1, so students get more attention in the classrooms.
