Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Calling them when you need help is very important because they help you every step of the way. i was confused about one of the classes so i talked to my advisor and she fixed it all for me and talked me through it. Advisors are very easy to communicate with.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Do your best and dont take your focus off of your classes. It is easy to pass but also easy to mess up. Use your resources on campus to help you out. It is not as hard as it seems.
In three sentences Great environment with exceptional professors that are there to help you succeed. Lots of special events for free food, free items, clubs, and future opportunities. Definitely feels like home when on campus.

Categories Comments In three sentences Although I’m starting my first official semester this summer I’ve been surrounded in a positive environment ever since I walked into the campus. Students greeted me with friendly smiles and the staff here is very helpful and caring. The tour of the school was pretty interested but simple because the mapping of the school isn’t to big nor to small, I’m looking forward to starting very soon! I can’t wait!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are many safety precautions implemented at this school and I personally have never seen or heard of an incident.
Clubs and Activities You will quickly see a notice there are many clubs and activities available within the school. If your interests are satisfied with an existing club, you could always establish one.
Bang for the buck This is the best place to go to when you're trying to save money for your education. It is a lot cheaper than going to a University and a lot of the professors have Doctorates.
Food and Dining They do have a cafeteria area where you could purchase your standard fast foods. They area is maintained very well but, be sure to check out the Culinary Arts for their reservations. The Culinary Arts program will give you a fine dining experience with little money.
Academic Rigor Some courses are harder than others, each one of us learn at different paces and in different ways. The best thing to do is research which teachers are your best fit.
Tips for prospective students Although all H.C.C. campuses are relatively small compared to Universities, it's easy to get lost. Make sure you look at your class schedules and study the map. When selecting your program and classes it is very wise to listen to the advisers, they're here to help and don't benefit from you failing.
In three sentences I started this school in the fall of 2016 and it has been a great experience since. This is the perfect place to achieve your Associates or a stepping stone to get your Bachelors. There are many programs to choose from and many electives to enjoy.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Definitely a great community college. I personally, started in Spring of 2016, staff is really helpful and the campuses typically always have events going on. There are a lot of Clubs and activities to participate in. I really felt accommodated when I first started because professors are really eager to help you with what you need. There is an honors society and PTK that I highly recommend getting involved with as an HCC student. It's been a pleasure being apart of both groups. Ybor City has a rich Cuban influence and the campus definitely showcases that with their events.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you (like me) are from a smaller area and it is your first year of the "college life" I would highly recommend HCC!
Bang for the buck I like the idea of being able to get your required courses at a smaller school and at a cheaper price than a University and still having the reassurance that those credits will transfer when you're ready!
What to do for fun The last time I went to the campus to finish enrollment I had the chance to talk to my instructor and he let me know of lots of different things going on around the campus that I will absolutely look for come the spring semester!
Food and Dining After visiting the Plant City campus the area seems to draw to the college prospects! Lots of small dining areas as well as cheap fast food (broke college kids right?)
Dorm Life I find it to be disappointing that HCC doesn't offer dorms at most of the locations.
Academic Rigor I cannot comment as I haven't started classes yet, but I have talked with my instructor multiple times and he is amazing!! Very helpful and insightful without being overbearing and intimidating! He was able to walk me through the steps I needed to take to register better then even my student advisor and the financial aid office!
Tips for prospective students My advice for those who are curious about attending HCC is to do your homework! Check out all the campuses and narrow your search based on travel time (if like me you will not be moving) and if they have the courses you need. I am enrolled in the Advanced Water Treatment program and the only campus that offers this program is Plant City.
In three sentences First impression of the Plant City campus was small but clean and focused. Initially friendly staff and efficient when scheduling times. The fact that you do not need an appointment to meet with an advisor is extremely helpful!

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus feels so safe as soon as entering the housing on the campus there are body guards and security guards watching the campus. it is a gated community with cameras everywhere. i couldn't feel any safer that also helped me to lean towards this incredible college.
Clubs and Activities clubs and activities are everywhere there are lots of study groups and clubs who get together and meet frequently to help hold eachother accountable and stay caught up in classes. there are people who get together and play sports and exercise together, and there are people who just get together to hangout and go see a movie every now and then. college is full of all different diverse people with different goals and interests.
Great for these types of students the college is great for students who do not have the money or the grades for a four year university right away. this college helps you to figure out your future while meeting friends and saving money to stay out of debt, and pay for the college.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus as of right now i haven't heard of any, but i am sure i would find that out the first week of college!
Bang for the buck incrediable faculty and community! as i mentioned this already, but i am driving all the way from michigan to florida for this college it really caught my eye. i am beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to go to college there this year.
What to do for fun luckily this college is right by everything and fun surrounds the campus. directly across from the housing is the tampa buccanerrs stadium so if sunday nfl football is on your mind (you probably hear the game going on). sports are offered at hcc such as baseball and basketball. it's fun to get out of the house and go enjoy some sunshine and relax while watching sports. the college is right around the corner from the malls, and the beach is only a 20 minute drive or so. there are lots of places to exercise and let your mind unwind after an exhausting week of finals!
Food and Dining food and dining is great due to the fact that the college is right in tampa it's right by all of the delicious restaurants down the street with variety of choices. if spending money on fast food/expensive resturaunts isn't for you they do have grocery store to pick out healthy affordable food choices for you and maybe even your roommates.
Dorm Life dorm life here at this college is a little different because it's a community college it does not have dorms, but it does have campus housing directly across from the college. the apartments are very convienent, very safe and very affordable. i will be living in one beginning in august.
Academic Rigor hillsborough college is a community college and really gives the chance to get those core classes out of the way so that if your previous/ current gpa isn't where it should be you can raise your grades and your academic scores and gpa.
Tips for prospective students i would highly recommend this college for other students. the close campus to jobs and exercise facilities is very convienent, and the cost is very feasible. my brother is actually already interested in going once he's in college just from me telling him about the college. i would rate this school five stars for the help there when i went on a visit everyone was welcoming with open arms and big smiles across their face excited to show me their campus and different programs offered.
In three sentences i have not attended this college yet, but i am currently graduating high school and will be enrolling in hillsborough community college for the fall semester. this college has interested me due to its care for their students, its low cost, and the amount of other students who have had a positive experience going here. i am moving all the way from michigan to florida to be attending this college. i researched their dental hygiene program and saw the high success rate, and the amount of graduates with associates degrees.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have not seen any fights or negative behavior, most people are pretty focused. There are professors always walking around campus.
Clubs and Activities There are club fairs every semester and there are a variety of clubs. Activity-wise, there are posters all over campus anytime there is an activity.
Bang for the buck Literally half the cost of USF but with the same classes
What to do for fun There are many events going on and free food every other week. With the free food they have little activities as well like: making wax molds of your hands, or decorating sandals, making chocolate lolipops, key chains made of wood with a design of your choice burned into it. They had a little fair ground a couple of times with a booths with free food and coffee. They play movies some times. On the Dale Maybry campus, there people always playing Smash/board games/video games in the student lounge.
Food and Dining Better than high school lunch, but bringing a homemade lunch is cheaper and probably yummier. The cafeteria is always crowded, but there are tables and benches all over campus; some tables even have solar panel umbrellas to charge your laptop or phone.
Dorm Life The Brandon HCC campus does not have any dorms. There is a dorm @Dale Maybry campus. I never lived there, but I've had friends who lived there and they said it's okay.
Academic Rigor depending on what classes you take and what you want to major in, the complexity of the class will change.
Tips for prospective students Look up the rating of your teachers before enrolling into their class and register EARLY. Classes fill up quick.
In three sentences So, I know you want to go to big name universities, but you can get the same degree for a cheaper cost at HCC first then transfer. Earning some college experience at HCC shows other universities that you are capable to do work on the college level and therefore more likely to accept you. If you think community college is too easy, try enrolling in the honors program for a more rigorous education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is well-lit and has an excellent security staff.
Greek Life The only Greek clubs are not fraternities, nor sororities. Phi Beta Lambda (the Business Club), Psi Beta (Psychology Honors Club), and Phi Beta Kappa (the honor society) are the only Greek letter named clubs.
Clubs and Activities HCC Dale Mabry campus has an excellent well organized Student Government Association and 46 clubs in various areas of interest.
Great for these types of students HCC is great for the fresh from high school student as well as advanced degree students who go there for the excellent cost of classes which are all transferable to Florida's university system.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus De-Stress fests during mid-terms are wonderful. They include chair massages, food and fun.
Bang for the buck For in-state residents, the price per class hour is hard to beat.
What to do for fun HCC, located in Tampa, Florida, is home to Lightning Hockey, Tampa Bay Buccaneers football, and Tampa Bay Rays baseball. We have a top notch aquarium in Tampa and the home of Winter, the dolphin, is at the aquarium in nearby Clearwater. Tampa has Busch Gardens. Invest in a two-hour drive to Orlando for Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. Tampa has a top notch Art Museum and the Salvidor Dali Museum is under an hour drive in St. Petersburg. The Tampa Bay area has The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center with touring Broadway plays as well as two other theaters in the area. The plethora of activity provides for multiple opportunities for entertainment as well as community service and job opportunities.
Food and Dining HCC has a SubWay, a Pizza Hut, a Burger Grill as well as the Gourmet Dining Room.
Dorm Life Good reports from the residents of the Hawks Landing on the Dale Mabry campus are plentiful.
Academic Rigor Hcc provides assistance for its student with an excellent physical library as well as a virtual library that gives access to every library in Florida's schools. There is a Math Lab, a Writing Lab, a Career Lab and a Computer Lab to name a few all there to provide assistance to students.
Tips for prospective students A tip for all students would be to become involved in the campus activities, your tuition dollars pay for these programs, so why not get more bang for your buck? Prospective students should take advantage of the Rate My Professor listings for a smooth transition into college life.
In three sentences Hillsborough Community College (HCC) is an excellent choice for continuing education whether solely seeking an Associate's Degree or planning to transfer to a four-year college. With class sizes averaging 25 students, instructors are readily available to assist their classes in their pursuit of excellence. On-campus housing, low tuition, 160 different degree programs, and student government activities make HCC worth your time and effort.

Categories Comments In three sentences HCC, worst college anyone could attend. After months and months of trying to register for classes and speak with an advisor nothing happened. I would call and they would tell me someone would email me and get back with me weeks would go by and still nothing. I am a distance learner and currently living overseas, after calling they told me I would have to come in. Well, what is the point of distance learning if you have to go into the school? HCC is absolutely ridiculous, in order to register for my classes I need an advisor. I called for an advisor and what do I get? Someone tells me that there aren't anymore advisors available! So what am I to do? There was a woman who I briefly spoke to, to help me. She did none of the sort. I told her that I had sent in both my official transcripts and SAT scores in PRIORITY mail, I was told she couldn't find them. After that she closed the ticket as if she had solved the problem which she didn't! Her emails were very unorganized and made no sense. Her grammar was off and she had many words missing. Are the people working there that uneducated? I received no student support. I recently just gave up on finishing my registration because it was literally impossible for me to attend this school. HCC is the most irresponsible and laziest school I have ever seen. I cannot believe how bad the service was. After this I will not attend HCC nor should anyone else who wants to do distance learning there.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Security guards are always on watch outside and inside the school
What to do for fun i really don't participate in the activities on campus, but there are a lot of fun places to go that are located near all the campuses For example, game time is about three to four streets down from the Ybor campus.
Food and Dining Always a vending machine somewhere along with someone selling hot dogs and other foods.
Dorm Life That's what i like about this institution; They're located in many different areas, and i personally did not have to live the dorm life.
Academic Rigor Teachers are pretty solid in all areas. Nevertheless all teachers have different styles, but each one brings something to the table and advises students to stay after class if they need help.
Tips for prospective students Go about working hard in all of your classes. Don't try to take advantage of the fact that you're not in high school and you can skip some class days. Stay focused on graduating and moving on to a university if not a trade school.
In three sentences I think it is an enjoyable school simply because of its environment. The students here are all very down to earth people. Along with the teachers who take pride in their jobs.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Poor students.
What to do for fun Depends on which campus you attend. Ybor campus is near a lot of night life and clubs, Southshore is near a local Drive-In, so it just depends.
Food and Dining I don't eat here, I'm a commuter.
Dorm Life I'm a commuter.
Academic Rigor I haven't attended the classes yet. But from my friends who have attended HCC said the coursework isn't bad, but you really have to be a self-starter. There's little to no help from the professors and just like everything else from HCC, they lose paperwork.
Tips for prospective students Make copies of your paperwork.
In three sentences Honestly, so far, I hate Hillsborough Community College. The advisers don't really know anything about any degree(planning on transferring back to University of Tampa) and their office loses EVERYTHING and requires tons of paperwork; but to top it off, rather than saying ,Okay. This is the list of paperwork we need they like to kinda just string you a long while losing some important documents(so always make a copy!) However, it's cheaper than any other school... So you're really getting what you pay for.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Never had any issues and the parking lots have big blue security buttons which can be pressed from help. I also usually see at least one security or cop car when i'm on cmapus.
Clubs and Activities I am not in any, but I always see flyers around the school for sports try outs or club meetings. Everyone seems very open and inviting.
Great for these types of students Really all kinds of student. They are good for student who want to go into health professions or students who just want to get their AA and transfer.
Bang for the buck I love this school because they have so many resources. I currently have free microsoft offfice through the school which saves me money. They are basically like little communities and they do a lot to help the students.
What to do for fun There are sporting games and each campus has its own events to go to. They seem to have events every week or two and they can be things from Earth day activities to career fairs to giving away free popcorn to health fairs.
Food and Dining I love the HCC campuses for their food. Big campuses have more of a selection, but they all have little restaurant/cafes in them and they have vending machines scattered around, which have mostly been completely stocked when i've looked at them.
Dorm Life I have never lived in a dorm, but they do have apartment complexes which are literally right across the street from the schools and certain campuses have day care centers.
Academic Rigor Certain classes have a lot of expectation, like anatomy and psychology. There is a lot of memorizing and study time which is involved in classes like that, but teachers generally do give study guides. Classes which are generally psychology based tend to have a ton of reading associated with them which can get overwhelming, but doable. They also have study guides. Generally classes have different things which makes them hard ,but they aren't impossible.
Tips for prospective students Try to get classes at Dale Mabry because they have a subway and Starbucks and more in their food court styled cafeteria. It's possible to e-mail the financial aid counselors which is a lot easier to do than sitting and waiting for someone if you don't have time. Teachers have always been caring and flexible as long as you are reasonable and talk to them a head of time. Also, try to take winter classes if that's possible because they count as 3 credit hours, but are only about 2-3 weeks to get done.
In three sentences The teachers are great and very caring. Financial aid was a breeze to get through and if there are any questions they can be e-mailed and are prompt. Campuses have been very clean and the class scheduling has been very convenient.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for busy working adults to be able to complete your dream of earning a degree.
Bang for the buck HCC is a better option to get your Associates or pre-reqs for a university as it costs almost half per credit hour (or more!) than the university costs.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you keep in contact with your financial and student advisors. Helping with financing and your schedule will take a lot of stress off of you having to think which class is best to take in which order.
In three sentences HCC offers an outstanding amount of online courses. They may have a test that needs to be proctored at their facilities but they allow for multiple time windows to work around your busy schedule.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've always felt safe at HCC, with the exception of the Ybor campus, because depending on what time of day you are down there, and day of the week, some crazy stuff can happen.
Bang for the buck I'm vey satisfied with the level of education I receive for the amount that I'm paying. I wouldn't exactly call the courses rigorous, but the teachers are there to support you and you really can't beat the price.
What to do for fun They have posters and flyers throughout the campus highlighting local events going on, and believe me, there is always something going on. The best campus I went to is Ybor campus, and there are a ton of neat things around that campus. I guess it really depends on the location you are in.
Food and Dining In the one semester I have attended, I've never tried the food. I see vending machines and I'm pretty sure that the cafeteria would taste like regular cafeteria food.
Dorm Life I cannot comment on this because I live off-campus, but I think my friend's younger sister stays in a dorm and she loves it.
Academic Rigor Depending on the class, most of them are just average. I only know this because I used to be enrolled in the Honors Institute here and the curriculum was VERY rigorous, so comparatively speaking, the regular classes are, well, regular, as they should be.
Tips for prospective students Communication is important, you are going to need to make several appointments with the counselors to make sure you're hitting every mark along the way, and keep them in the loop so they know how best to assist you.
In three sentences Not only am I a student, but I am a professional in the workplace as well, and Hillsborough Community College allows me to maintain both aspects of my life. The staff there is, for the most part, willing to help you succeed and surpass your goals. For the education you receive and the cost, I wouldn't consider going anywhere else to obtain my Associate's Degree.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck I suggest that you learn how to cook because that is much more cheaper than ordering out food. Learn how to coupon for everything. Rent your textbooks, DO NOT BUY them unless you now that you are going to use them for more than one semester.
What to do for fun If you have a car you choices are limitless, but if you are stuck and have limited transportation SGA strives to have several activities to make life interesting. In Hawks landing which is the Student Housing area there are big events at least once a month.
Food and Dining We do not have an official meal plan here at HCC but what we do have is a cafeteria with Subway and Pizza Hut; however there are cafes in the area that make up for it. Plus we are close to a Walmart and some casual restaurants for days when your feeling fancy.
Dorm Life The student housing that is offered here is in the Dale Mabry campus and it honestly feels like a prison. The amount o rules that are placed on students that live here is almost ridiculous;however, it is an amazing place to make friends and the convenience of it being across from school is what makes it great.I would recommend it for only one year.
Academic Rigor What makes things difficult is your major, how many classes you take up and what are the classes that you take up. It is all possible it just depends on the combination of classes you have selected and on which days do you want to bombard yourself with work.
Tips for prospective students If you are going to attend HCC go and check out who your teachers are on rate my professor.com before you choose your classes. If you like your weekends do not choose any classes on Friday. Challenge yourself your first year, since you just came out of high school you will be use to the decent class load and hopefully your work ethic has not disappeared due to Seniority.
In three sentences Hillsborough is a great college to attend if you want small classes. Some of the teachers here are amazing. Its a wonderful place to be if you can not make the big jump from high school to university.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are emergency response procedures for every campus. Look for the blue poles in parking lots and around the courtyards--you can press a button and get ahold of security instantly. I feel really safe walking around campus at any time because of this feature! I've never once felt unsafe on an HCC campus.
What to do for fun There's club activities, volunteer options, and community service projects galore! HCC also has some sports teams and 'hangout' areas on every campus that you can take advantage of. SGA lounges are a great place to meet people and blow off some steam.
Food and Dining Each campus (except Plant City) has a cafe area or cafeteria environment for chowing down. PLant city has recently started having food trucks come to campus on select days to make meals more available to students. There's some variety in beverages and foods. It's usually pretty good stuff, so give it a chance sometime!
Dorm Life I haven't experienced this yet, so it would be unfair for me to speak about it!
Academic Rigor My rating is largely based on the Honors Institute curriculum. Just like honors programs in high school, their classes are more vigorous than normal ones. the classes offered through the institute are diverse, taught by esteemed professors, and can really help you decide on where your interests lie. They also have the best academic advisors in all of HCC! The rigor of normal classes really depend on the course. I've yet to feel totally bored or unchallenged in any class. Like any school, some are known for being more simple or easy, while others are more intense or difficult. It just depends on which of the many paths you choose.
Tips for prospective students You definitely need to plan to meet with academic advisors with ample time before the semester begins. You want to have time for the hustle and bustle of paperwork, scheduling classes, and getting an appointment set in stone. Make sure to introduce yourself to each of your instructors. A simple meeting in their office hours or an email will do! You want them to know you, so that going to them for guidance or assistance isn't a conversation between total strangers.Take advantage of events on your campus and the variety of clubs you can join. They are there to liven your experience and it helps with transferring to later schools!
In three sentences HCC is definitely a community college that holds a diversity in activities and professors. Each campus has its own reputation for guest speakers, campus contests/activities, and clubs that you can get involved with. The Honors Institute is TOP NOTCH--I wholeheartedly recommend applying for that program!

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Again, the classes are intimate, allowing for ample learning. I am seeking an AA with dance emphasis, so the smaller classes definitely allow more time for corrections from the professor, and partner working with other students. The class pricing is great, you really get more than what you're paying for.
Food and Dining There is a local food place right on campus, that offers healthy food, at a reasonable price. They offer salads and wraps, made with healthier options. It's a really good option for protein to give you energy to get through long days of classes and work.
Dorm Life I don't live on campus. I don't know how the dorm life is.
Academic Rigor Most of the classes move very quickly. There is a lot of information to cover in a short amount of time, as long as you are prepared, you will do well. Each class I have taken, has challenged me, and taught me something new everyday.
Tips for prospective students Every professor provides a syllabus, for each class, be sure to familiarize yourself with it. Almost daily, I see students panic about a quiz, or a discussion, simply because they didn't plan ahead. As long as you make the time to study, and prepare for daily classes, things will go very smoothly for you.
In three sentences The classes are smaller that what you would find at a large school, allowing more interaction time between the professor, and students. With the smaller classes, learning, understanding, and asking questions is always an option. I also really enjoy that the campus isn't spread out, I can get from class to class very quickly.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is a lot to do on and around campus. They have a gym for working out, playing basketball, etc. There is even an art gallery for those students who enjoy that sort of thing.
Food and Dining There is a cafeteria here with Subway and Pizza Hut. You can also go by the Bookstore for a quick bite out of convenience.
Dorm Life I do not reside in a dorm.
Academic Rigor The students are generally good students and want to succeed. The staff definitely want their students to succeed, so they are very helpful and will assist you in any way possible.
Tips for prospective students Get here early! Everything is dependent upon timing. So be early, because on time is late here at HCC.
In three sentences HCC is a great place to learn! The staff is helpful and there are a lot of resources. The only real problem is waiting in all the lines everywhere because there are so many students.

Categories Comments Food and Dining I never ate on campus. I heard it was awful though.
Dorm Life I didn't stay in them, but they seemed nice.
Academic Rigor It depends on the teacher and the class. If you pay attention and do the work assigned, you're fine. Unless you get one of the terrible teachers, but there really aren't many of them.
Tips for prospective students Research the teachers before you pick your classes! Especially if you care about your GPA! If you don't and end up with a poor teacher it can easily make the difference between getting an A and failing the class. Aside from that, just relax. Everyone's pretty chill there and there are plenty of places to just sit and study, relax for a few, or people watch.
In three sentences If you get a teacher who's there because it's their passion, and they know how to teach, it's a great experience. The students were overall pretty nice. It's about what you'd expect when you think of community college in Tampa.

Bang for the buck Highly recommend spending your first two years here before moving on to a 4-year, at only about $100 a credit hour, it is far less expensive.
What to do for fun There always seems to be something going on and there are tons of clubs you could join.
Food and Dining Dale Mabry campus has Subway, and Pizza Hut in the cafe as well as a Starbucks in the lounge
Dorm Life They have some apartments to live in but most students commute from home.
Academic Rigor As long as you pay attention and do your homework, the classes really aren't that hard. If you are even in need of help, they have a great tutoring facility that is free for all students and teachers are always available to help.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to go talk to an advisor, they can answer any question you have and help you plan out your classes.
In three sentences Even though it is a large school, the teachers are very friendly and most will learn your name. The campuses are clean and very nice. There always seems to be something going on on campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus does not have gates, but i do not know of any campus that has gates surrounding the premises. I would consider the Campus to be safe, i do not see alot of speeding or dangerous things. It is a very quiet and calm campus
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs at all of the HCC campuses. A Christian club, feeding the homeless, student government, and all of these clubs are very active to assisting individuals and the community.
Great for these types of students Students who want to save money for their First Two years of college
What to do for fun Things to do for fun would be taking jogs, going to the gym at the dorms, or even hanging out with your friends. Meeting and making new friends does seem a little scary to me, but there are tons of things to do for fun, and this list is only naming a few.
Food and Dining The food at the campus is just like an other fast food restaurant. It is very convenient because since the Dorm is right next to the campus, if you don't have a car, you can just simply walk 5 minutes to campus to get a bite to eat for the day with friends. The service is fast and reliable, and many of the stores have friendly service.
Dorm Life The HCC Dale Mabry Campus dorm has a beautiful exterior. After two weeks when i applied for the dorm for the Fall of 2014, i read some reviews online about it. I was truly shocked because the dorms were not for me. After reading all of those reviews, i just felt more and more distant from choosing HCC Dorm as my home. But I don't want to take other people's reviews on how it is, because my version of justice and Truth is not the same as anyone in the world. I want to find my own Truth.
Academic Rigor Make sure to maintain your grades to high standards so that if you wish to pursue a higher degree later on, you will be accepted to the ones you desire ad so much more. The teachers also push you to excel in all you do, and to keep you on the right track. They have alot of faith in you!
Tips for prospective students For new students, if you have a phone, make it to good use! Keep a track of application deadlines for scholarships, fasfa, class registrations, school holidays, and when the term ends. HCC keeps all of this information online so it is very easy to access.
In three sentences I am starting HCC this fall, and so far, just being able to meet the faculty and staff before hand was a wonderful experience for me. They were well mannered, maintain a positive attitude, and wonderful people to work with. I cannot wait until the school year begins.

Food and Dining Awesome location tons of restaurants including diners, pizza, Cubans and every country you would want to taste without ever leaving Tampa.
Dorm Life I live close by.
Academic Rigor The classroom size varies from small to medium. The teachers have more time to spend assisting the students. Hands on is the best experience for me and I have had the best time jumping right in and learning new things.

The campus is average, however many environment-friendly changes are being maid, such as solar powered charging stations for laptops, and recycling. Categories Comments Great for these types of students Did you slack off your senior year? Did you score really well on your SAT/ACT and still get rejected at a university? Well, you're in luck at HCC: they'll take you in, teach you, and send you off for to that university that rejected you for the last 2 years of your degree.
Bang for the buck You're getting more than what you pay for. Since it's a community college, the price per semester is cut drastically, but you're still getting classes that are transferable to a university!
Tips for prospective students Pay close attention to the mandatory orientation: they have you go through it at your future campus for a reason. I drew my own map of the campus in a notebook and it actually helped me remember where different buildings are (at the Brandon Campus).
In three sentences This is the perfect transition from high school to college. You get a sense of the hustle and bustle of a busy university campus, without all of the stress of a university. Besides, why pay twice as much for your (in most cases) prerequisite classes?

Categories Comments Campus Safety The safety is amazing at this college. There is always security roaming around and there is also emergency phones every few feet. This college does its utmost best to make sure students are safe day and night.
Greek Life none
Clubs and Activities On the campus a wide variety of clubs are offered however depending on the campus you attend not all the clubs offered. For example, at the Ybor campus the only club ever seen or advertised is the chess club. There is a Student government club and they do have occasional activities on this campous.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is an art exhibit at the ybor campus that changes every month and is always beautiful and captivating.
Bang for the buck I save a lot of money on tuition and other school supplies. Although it is cheaper to buy necessary school supplies at a local walmart or walgreens. Supplies is over priced and not worth spending financial aid money over.
Food and Dining The food tastes as though it has been brought to broil in a dumpster. The smell of the food is as repulsing as sewage water on a hot Florida summer day. Tables are never clean and there are never any napkins or eating utensils.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms at this college. The only location for dorms is at the Dale Mabry campus. I have heard good and bad things about the dorms. The good things are that your close to classes and places to eat or socialize. The bad things I have heard are that it s better to live at home or have your own apartment due to the dorms are over priced for a two year community college.
Academic Rigor Hillsborough Community, is basically like high school when it come to academics. You just have to push yourself to succeed and see success in your classes due to the fact that your teachers are not pushing you and neither are counselors. The grades you make are the grades that you put effort into.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students, Hcc, is a college for students that are not ready to take a step further into the college and or university atmosphere. However, you do save half as much money attending this school than you do at a local university. Hcc is good role model as to expect in a university.
In three sentences Hillsborough Community College is a college spread across the county. Every campus is different in its own unique way. However, most of the campuses are rather dull and offer little to no college atmosphere. The atmosphere at this college in fact is like being in high school all over again except you are paying for it every semester.

Food and Dining Regardless of which campus your attending, your welcome to many restaurants near and far by.
Dorm Life I personally don't currently live in the dorms. But they are 586 monthly with all the amenities. There is no meal plan at all, they bedroom are spacious enough for most furniture you would add.
Academic Rigor The professors are friendly and dedicated for you success in their class and others. Some can be a bit mono-tone, especially English classes. Take notes on material that puzzled you in class or homework ,then ask questions.
Tips for prospective students Just be yourself, don't copy nobody around. Be on time for your classes. Pace yourself to get things done. Like me,I put all my classes, assignments, and due dates on my Galaxy Tab 3. Reminders alert me 2-7 days in advance of test and quiz times. Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus ensures all students are safe. there are security guards always walking around also there are cameras on every turn.
Greek Life There are recycle bins in every classroom and outside. Also HCC has been tobacco free for about 1-2 years.
Clubs and Activities I have not enrolled in any clubs however i am aware of the language clubs. They help foreign students understand and learn english.
Great for these types of students HCC in general is great for any type of student. No matter what you want to be or where you want to go HCC is a good way to start. It helps get everything in place.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The only thing that really stands out to be unusual is the location of the campus. It seems to be hidden on the end of a long road.
Bang for the buck Once you are registered in HCC the most useful things that i have seen are how they help you to pass your classes. They offer free tutoring and also free college writing classes. To help a student write a successful essay.
What to do for fun HCC has a vast number of clubs and associations that one can get involved in. From language clubs, book clubs and computers. I am new to the school so all the opportunities are unknown to me.
Food and Dining The food and dining are what you would expect in any college, however not as vast a selection or as huge a cafeteria. the cafeteria is about the same size as a Highschool cafeteria. Only not as loud and obnoxious.
Dorm Life HCC does not have any dorms and i have never been in a dorm or owned one. I would like the chance to go to a college where i can live on campus. that way i can experience that sense of independence.
Academic Rigor All the staff teachers or counselors are well trained and make it known that they are there to help the students.
Tips for prospective students Keep an agenda to plan out your time wisely. Don't think the work is easy and one can do it in a short amount of time. The time given is time needed to complete the assignments.
In three sentences HCC is a completely different ball game from Highschool. They show and also help you to become more independent. The work is straight forward, however when it comes to deadlines it is ones responsibility to meet them.

Food and Dining Would rather bring food from home if anything.
Academic Rigor The classes are somewhat difficult but for the most part, but nonetheless manageable.
Tips for prospective students I paid completely out of pocket but if you are applying for financial aid, stay on top of them because they will take awhile to refund you and you will be out of luck if you aren't careful.
In three sentences The college is great; most of the professors have either taught at universities or are currently teaching at the University of Tampa or USF. Clubs and Activities There are over 10 clubs on campus.
Bang for the buck Cheaper tuition than any other college around.
What to do for fun I go to club social events, participate in community service and volunteer work, play video games on my xbox, work out, and go out with friends.
Food and Dining The food is good. There are many restaurants on campus: Subway, Pizza Hut, Grill House, and Starbucks. The prices are reasonable and servings are filling.
Dorm Life There are off-campus apartment buildings that are fairly inexpensive. I do not know anyone who lives in these apartments, so I can not provide much information on them.
Academic Rigor There is a lot of immaturity in this campus, but the campus has an Honor Institution with students who are determine to learn who are very ethical and mature. If you want to surround yourself with students who have academic rigor, join clubs. The students in clubs are always pushing to succeed in more ways than academics.
Tips for prospective students It is important for students to fill out all paperwork early, because the staff often makes mistakes on paperwork and to fix process can take an extra month. I would advise everyone to fill out a FAFSA application. FAFSA might give you enough money to pay for your books or gas fees. Another part of the preparation process before attending this college is to become knowledgeable of all the services offered on and off campus: this includes online homework assistance, writing assistance, and tutoring commons for a wide variety of classes as well as computer labs with printing access.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is security detail 24/7, I have always felt safe to just go about my day. Day or night, security is on the watch - blue emergency towers are functional in case of...emergency and public safety officers monitor and survey all buildings.
Clubs and Activities Depending on which campus you attend, there are various clubs and organizations you can be apart of from Student Government to Criminal Justice Organization, there are groups that appeal to students from all walks of life and academic goals.
Great for these types of students students who can not afford to go into a university right away or are not sure what they want to do as far as their college career goes.
What to do for fun there are lots of fairs and activities held every month, get a calendar and stay updated. - fall-festival -new student festival -student lounge - theater arts production
Food and Dining -lots of places to catch food and a place to hang. -food is affordable and great tasting. -Starbucks is available on campus. -cyber cafe is a great place to chill out and relax (Ybor city)
Academic Rigor - the course work is not too tough, but take your work seriously.
Tips for prospective students -make sure to have all documentation to ensure a smooth enrollment process. -know what you want to get out of your learning experience. -meet with your academic counselor if you have ANY questions. -know what classes you need to take, and be sure the college you are transferring to will accept them.

With five campuses (plus three satellite campuses), excellent financial aid/scholarships, and over 160 degree programs - the possibilities are limitless. Categories Comments What to do for fun I usually attend different kinds of activities, and my favorite place to go is library. I go there, I see all my friends, and hang out with them there, and study there. Usually we go out to eat or watch movie with all my friends.
Food and Dining Food and dinning is very good there. Everything are very organized and mostly cheap and affordable for students.
Dorm Life I do not live in dormitory but I heard it is better start living there. Because one can meet a lot other students and have new friends, and learn to live with people, learn to share and help each other. Usually, there are a lot of activities for students in dormitory.
Tips for prospective students Students should be always open to accept new people and new cultures, they will just give them joy and happiness. To try to make new friends and learn, it will help them to not sit and have cultural shock while they are in different country. Only with friends and new life everything can be changed and heeled, even loneliness.
In three sentences One of the best community colleges with small classes and few amount of students. Professors have more time to help and answer to students' questions, and so kind, always welcome to help. This college has a lot of students with different backgrounds, from different countries and cultures.

Great for these types of students HCC is great for students that want to be saving money while still working or living at home.
What to do for fun HCC being relatively new, has many miniature 'carnivals' where they give away free food and free arts and craft items.
Dorm Life They only have dorms on the Dale Mabry campus which are in a reasonable price range.
Academic Rigor Many people see HCC as a basic beginners college but many of the classes can be very challenging. You will need to equip yourself with better studying habits right from the beginning to earn A's.
Tips for prospective students My advice to prospective students is to research these campuses. You need to pick the campus that has the best fit for the classes you need to take, not just the campus that is closest to you. Also get very familiar with their HCC website before you even start classes.
In three sentences Hillsborough Community College is a great starter school for students unsure of their intended major. The teachers are great and they all seem to really care about their students' education. At HCC, you will be able to get your A.A. and most likely find a subject you're passionate for.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is always security in campus for safety. Around parking lot and walking areas. Very safe campus.
Greek Life There is no greek life available.
Clubs and Activities There are a few clubs and sports but not many. The women's volleyball team is top ranked in the nation. SGA is pretty big on campus.
Great for these types of students HCC is great for students that are looking for cheaper education options, adults looking for a short career to get a better job, students that are undecided on what they want to do in life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are none that I am aware of .
Bang for the buck It is cheaper than the nearby school (USF) but the quality education is not near as good.
What to do for fun Get involved in sports or clubs. Besides that you are on your own, unless you meet people.
Food and Dining There are several places to grab and go between classes. There is a subway, pizza hut, grill, starbucks, snakc places, and vending machines.
Dorm Life Only housing available is an affiliated housing project next to campus.
Academic Rigor Classes are challenging but not as hard as a four-year institution.
Tips for prospective students To start freshmen year with good science and math classes. Do not hold those up as that will affect you later on. Take Biology I and Chemistry I together in freshmen year along with College Algebra. Get involved in campus and meet people. That will help you for your classes.
In three sentences HCC is a good quality school for those students that would like to obtain the prerequisites for their major at a lower price. The campus is large enough to make it comfortable, and many food options. Advising is not great, therefore I would recommend researching the classes you need for your major.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities Honors club, Psychology club, Christian Club, ect there is something for everyone.
Great for these types of students Students who do better on a one on one setting.
Bang for the buck I would say it is a very good college for the amout you are paying.
What to do for fun There are many things around this college to do for fun. You can attend a football game at the stadium across the street, or a baseball game at the other stadium next door. Or you can go to the mall which is down the street.
Food and Dining I dont usually eat on campus, but when I have they don't have the best food and its over priced in my opinion.
Dorm Life I am not sure about the dorm life because I do not live on campus. But, I have heard is very affordable and they are also nice looking.
Academic Rigor The proffessors I have had so far in this university have varied in thier passion for the subject they teach. Overall I can say that they are very good and enjoy teaching thier student, and helping them excel.
Tips for prospective students I would reccoment prospective students to first decided if the college expirence is for you, or if you would rather perfer the university expiereince right out of high school. Many people have different likings and some might do better in a large university rather than a college.
In three sentences Hillsborough Community College is a great place to start your college expirience. It offers small setting classrooms where you can engage with other students as well as with your professors. I would reccomend this college for students who are not yet ready for the intimidating large scale classrooms in some universtities, and who need a feel for college first.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Even though it's dirt cheap for a community college, it's just not worth the money. Try Daytona State, Valencia, or St. Pete College.
What to do for fun Nothing.
Food and Dining Can't speak for any campus other than the Brandon Campus on this subject. The main café is really nice and provides a wide variety of hot meals as well as grab-n-go options. The Brandon Campus also has a Cyber Café with a microwave and condiment station available for student use. While it doesn't provide as nearly as many options, the convenience factor is still there. My only complaint is the hours as it closes at 2 in the afternoon.
Dorm Life They have no dorms. They do however, have Hawks Landing. This is an apartment complex solely for HCC students that are on an athletic scholarship or students attending classes at The Dale Mabry Campus ONLY! They are quite trashy and EXPENSIVE! I found a much nicer apartment that was CLEAN and SAFE where I didn't have to have my parents on the lease all for a couple hundred bucks cheaper.
Tips for prospective students Take orientation online Register for Fall Classes in late June at the latest or as soon as you finish Orientation. Buy your books for each class at their individual campuses. Not all courses use the same textbook throughout each campus. AVOID LIVING IN THE HAWKS LANDING APARTMENTS! DON'T TAKE ANY NIGHT CLASSES. The areas surrounding each campus is not safe!
In three sentences I personally would avoid going here at all costs because it just down right sucks.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Security maintains great control over the students and campus. I have never seen a fight, or witnessed any other sort of dangerous activities. Its also healthy, as it is a Smoke-Free campus.
Greek Life Phi Theta Kappa, etc.
Great for these types of students Students interested in bettering their live by receiving a college education who may not be able to afford the cost of the traditional college.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have a Day of the Dead Day, fair day, casino night, the events just go on.
Bang for the buck HCC is far cheaper than traditional colleges while offering a more personal education which (in my opinion) is up to par or has surpassed that of traditional colleges.
What to do for fun Participate, participate, participate. The amount of free themed events it endless and very fun. All you have to do is attend.
Food and Dining HCC's Student Government Association sets up several social events each month where they offer free, delicious food to student and faculty as well as games, shirts, etc. The HCC convenient store also offers a wide variety of drinks and food to choose from between classes.
Dorm Life No dorms at the Southshore campus, however the campus itself is beautiful.
Academic Rigor Much of the academic rigor depends on the professor that is instructing your class. They all have expectation and they all have left me much more knowledgeable post-class.
Tips for prospective students Check all of your prospective professors and the Rate My Professor site as I have found this very beneficial. Make sure that you apply before deadlines to give yourself more options to choose from financially and avoid late fees. Participate in the student run activities in the beautiful court yard for free food and fun!
In three sentences Hillsborough Community College is by far the cleanest campus I have ever visited (Southshore Campus). The advisers, professors, students, and faculty all make learning there extremely convenient and comfortable. HCC is an extremely fun, affordable and realistic college to attend.

Great for these types of students Great for social and independent students.
What to do for fun There are lounges for honor students and besides that there are plenty of places to sit and relax around campus.
Food and Dining I always enjoy the food, it is better than a lot of restaurants but the prices are a bit steep.
Dorm Life I don't stay on campus but it seems to be a nice place.
Academic Rigor I consider myself an advanced student so it is rare that I am challenged to the max in a class unless it is math or art.
Tips for prospective students Learn to be independent. Ask a lot of questions when you need to. Go to the advisor's office to get help. Be on time. Get to know your teachers and tell them when you are struggling.
In three sentences Hillsborough Community college is a peaceful environment. I especially enjoy having the option to attend more than one campus at the same time. I would suggest that the teachers start using more hands on methods.

Greek Life I dont think there is a greek life on campus
Clubs and Activities I am not a part of any.
Great for these types of students Great location and cheaper than a university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None that I know of.
Bang for the buck Getting an education is ALWAYS a good thing to do, but when you attending HCC you need to be educated about getting your education. There are several classes that I have taken that I do not feel like I learned enough or got enough out of for the amount of money that I am paying to go here.
What to do for fun I am not currently a part of any clubs at HCC due to y busy schedule but I have heard wonderful things about them.
Food and Dining Have not visited the cafeteria.
Dorm Life Not in a door
Academic Rigor The classes I have taken have been very educational, despite the learning challenges of not being able to understand what my professor is saying, the class/school work was on point was I was fully prepared for my final.
Tips for prospective students MAKE SURE TO USE RateMyProfessor.com BEFORE ENROLLING IN A CLASS. I have made this mistake more than once and once I was in the class, it was too late to switch. I recently went on there to look up all of my professors I have had in the past and they are completely accurate. Definitely a major help for me.
In three sentences Not a very pleasant first time college experience. Professors are not helpful and most do not speak very good English, and the people who work there are extremely unpleasant and are not helpful. But, it is a convenient location from my house and work.

Greek Life Unsure what you mean.
Clubs and Activities They have a Student Government Association which seems to be very well known and a strong place to meet and join up with others with like minds and interests.
Great for these types of students Low budget, dedicated, and friendly. This school has plenty of ASL students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None to speak of
Bang for the buck This school is about as low as you can get in price. You'll spend near ten times as much in other states for tuition.
What to do for fun Play video games and hone my craft (job).
Food and Dining They just revamped their cafeteria which is nice (Subway, Pizza hut, etc.) however the price for their other concessions it ridiculous
Dorm Life I live with my parents.
Academic Rigor At this time I'm only taking two classes in the summer so there isn't much rigor at this time.
Tips for prospective students They are a great school and very large, but have some systemic issues with managing financial aid and getting information out in a timely and accurate manor. If you go to this school you need to be on your toes. If you are using financial aid be prepared to make routine visits for paperwork that sends you back and forth. That is just how their system works. So if you can accept the run around you'll do fine.
In three sentences Hillsborough Community College offers a variety of options for classes (Hybrid, Online, and traditional) However, due to their low cost it is very difficult to get into highly desired programs with limited space. Another thought that would make them more available is that they do not offer any weekend classes. I myself am a full time professional and find it hard to be available for the classes they offer.

Dorm Life Hawks Landing isnt too bad if you're looking for convenience. However if you have a car and are willing to drive a little for school. Check out the Pointe near usf.
Academic Rigor It all depends on the professor.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you have all your ducks in a row when attending and be prepared for long lines in the offices. Make sure you look up your professors on websites that give reviews from students. AND JUST HAVE FUN!
In three sentences The school has both its pros and cons, I enjoyed my time here but am glad that I am moving on to a four year college. The Pros are that the teachers are great, motivated, and the campus is small enough to get a personal education. However, the cons are that it takes forever for assistance with financial aid, advising, and general administration.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always felt safe on campus. I often got out of class late at night, but with security guards constantly circling the parking lots, I was never worried.
Clubs and Activities The club that I found most rewarding was Phi Theta Kappa. Through this honors club I was able to attend the International Conference held in San Jose, California. It was a tremendous learning experience for me and my peers. Also being apart of this club gave me opportunities for several scholarships.
Great for these types of students Hillsborough Community College is great for any student, but particularly for local students right out of high school. It provides a very affordable education experience for students who want to obtain their associates agree and then transfer on to a four year university.
Bang for the buck Hillsborough Community College really provides the best opportunities for their students. Free tutoring, computer labs, writing centers, and workout rooms are just some of the few.
What to do for fun For fun the Student Government Association, as well as Phi Theta Kappa, plan activities. They have small carnivals with free food, face painting, and blow-up machines. They also plan school dances, such as the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Around certain holidays like Halloween, they do costume parties with loud music, disco balls, and dancing.
Food and Dining Each campus has a cafeteria where you can purchase food. There are also several vending machines around the campus. The best food, however, is provided by SGA (the Student Government Association). Several times a month they have caterers come to the school and set up tables where they pass out free food.
Dorm Life I lived at home and did not experience dorm life.
Academic Rigor Although one might think that it is just a community college, HCC is not a breeze. Professors push you to exceed. Taking Honors classes also makes your brain work harder and think outside of the box on certain projects assigned.
Tips for prospective students I recommend that new students get involved. Join clubs and make friends. Two that really helped me were Phi Theta Kappa, and the Hillsborough Community College Honors program. Also, take advantage of the tutoring centers for writing and math. It's free!
In three sentences Hillsborough Community College has great professors who are dedicated to helping students learn. I never thought a community college could feel like a family, but it definitely does. It is also very affordable for the average working student, like myself.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Work out! There's a gym at every campus except for South Shore (since it's the newest).
Food and Dining Ybor has two cafe's and two lounges, but right around the corner is Centro Ybor with a plethora of restaurants & bars. Brandon has two cafe's and one lounge. South Shore has NO cafe, and no lounge. Dale Mabry is the main campus, they have the most.
Dorm Life Dorms aren't offered BUT there's something called Hawk Landing apartments for the students.
Academic Rigor My science courses were amazing, challenging but rewarding. I remember everything I was taught.
Tips for prospective students Get your requirements out of the way quickly. Also, be sure to never default on any money you owe the school. They send your invoice to different collection agencies so trying to pay that off is going to have you stressed out.
In three sentences HCC is great for a quick way to get through the first two years of college. The financial aid office on the South Shore campus is horrible. Stick to Ybor or Dale Mabry.

Food and Dining Starbucks offered on every campus!
Dorm Life Live like the famous is their moto, and they sure have managed to make it look that way! Wonderful pool, computer room, and gym all on dorm facilities.
Academic Rigor This all depends on what courses you're taking, and what program you go into.
Tips for prospective students Don't forget to ask questions when ever you're confused. Remember to grab every situation by the reigns and take control. Also don't forget to enjoy your learning experiences, because they don't last forever!

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities It's always a great way to become recognized by joining a club. Start by joining the SGA and find clubs that you are interested in from there. There really is a club for anyone!
What to do for fun On the HCC Brandon Campus, the SGA often throw Bashes for the students including activities, free food, a DJ and the clubs are all there. At other times of the semester the Drama classes put on plays for anyone to come enjoy.
Food and Dining The campus that I typically take classes on is the Brandon campus, therefore I can only review their food/dining experience. It is a typical cafeteria setting, with a slightly higher attitude and better taste. Although the prices are raised from the regular Sodexo foods and prices, they do say, you get what you pay for.
Dorm Life There is only one campus that I am aware of that has dorms at HCC. The Dale Mabry campus is one of our bigger campuses and includes Hawks Landing. I personally have never lived inside, so I would not be able to give an accurate review of the dorms.
Academic Rigor I feel as though at HCC students do challenge themselves, although you can tell which ones are more inclined to do so. The students whom have the incentive to do so are typically more active in school activities, such as sports or clubs (i.e. SGA, PTK...) which they understand will not only look good on their transcripts, but will also motivate and teach them throughout their academic careers about leadership.
Tips for prospective students Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, so be very careful and extra prepared. Have all of the necessary documents and paperwork filled out ahead of time and find out as much information before you talk to someone to save yourself as much time as possible. When in doubt talk to your fellow peers, at the same time, take everything with a grain of salt.
In three sentences I love college in general. Although it is taking me a long time to get through the academic process, I have become involved in much more than just classes. The only issue with Hillsborough Community College is its system; students are constantly finding problems in the advising center and within the financial aid department.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there are emergency call stations and security officials patrol the entire campus, including the parking lot, all the time. I feel very safe at this college.
Great for these types of students A perfect place for students who, like me, can't afford a high tuition.
Bang for the buck Same basic education that a person would get at a major university but for a fraction of the cost. I also love how there are no lecture halls either and the professors actually learn the names and faces of their students.
What to do for fun There are multiple social events like a Halloween party and costume contest and social gatherings where there is free food, arts and crafts, Henna tattoos, etc.
Food and Dining there are a lot of restaurants located close to every campus. on campus dining options are limited to unknown companies and can be pretty pricy but yummy.
Dorm Life I don't live in a dorm.
Academic Rigor I consider the classes to be average. Some of the classes may be challenging to others but so far, they haven't been too bad for me. There are a lot of research papers which can be challenging but I've grown used to them.
Tips for prospective students Sign up for classes early because there are a lot of students. The honors program does offer smaller and more challenging classes for those who want a challenge. arrive to class early in order to find a parking spot because parking can be a bit of a hassle.
In three sentences I give this school a 7 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being great. There are multiple locations throughout the county and the classes are affordable for the average student. The honors program is a great addition to the education program.

Great for these types of students This school is great for anybody trying to transition into a larger program at one of the state universities.

What to do for fun There seems to never really be a dull night in this area as there will always be alot of parties and activities but you can go to the movies at the mall go to some of the amusement parks on the other side of town and go out to clubs in Ybor city

Dorm Life I have heard only positive feedback about Hawk's Landing, the college's dorms. I have not actually resided there.
Academic Rigor I have felt continuously challenged at HCC and believe the course material here is comparable to any university.
Tips for prospective students Take your classes here seriously. Many students underestimate the level of difficulty of the classes at Hillsborough Community College because it is not a four year university; however, many of the classes are identical to those taught at such four year institutions and are just as challenging. Categories Comments Campus Safety The safety on campus seems to be outstanding. Everywhere I go I see a security guard and I haven't heard of anything going on around campus.
Greek Life Unfortunately, I am too busy with school work and work to participate in these extras right now. Hopefully, I will be able to soon.
Clubs and Activities Unfortunately, I am too busy with school work and work to participate in these extras right now. Hopefully, I will be able to soon.
Great for these types of students Honestly, this school is for anyone. All ages, genders, and ethnicity doesn't matter either. Everyone is welcome!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus So far, I haven't found anything unusual on campus.
Bang for the buck You get the same education at a Community College that you do at a University. The only difference is the name and how much money you are willing to spend for that name.
What to do for fun Photography is a hobby of mine. In my spare time at school I often find myself taking pictures. If I am not walking around with my camera in my hand, then most likely I am getting to know someone new.
Food and Dining The food is fresh, affordable, and the service is great.
Dorm Life I don't live on campus so I can't give you much information but from what I've heard they are nice just like regular apartments.
Tips for prospective students Wait until after classes start to buy your books, some professors prefer not to use them. Always attend class, you are paying for your education so take advantage of it. Take advantage of the Academic Success Center; they are their to help you and it's FREE!
In three sentences HCC is a great option for people who want an education but are unable to invest a lot of money in it. From my experience so far, the professors are wonderful and the other students are very welcoming. You get a great education for an affordable price.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Campus is fairly safe with patrol trucks driving around, and also a police station is located right across the street form the campus. However, I rated campus safety a three because, the HCC safety patrol employees athletic and physical stature is concerning. Another reason is that most of them are either seniors or are tip the scale on the heavier side, but on a positive note their all fairly tall in height. Campus officers that patrol within the college grounds are located in specified areas, but they tend to stick to one spot for the duration of their shift usually talking to people.
Clubs and Activities All of the campuses offer a wide variety of clubs and activities that serve student needs. Most of the organizations offer students the opportunity to branch out and express their interests, while others focus on the smaller activities . They offer organized group projects either volunteering for the habitat for humanity or participating in other groups that have similar interests. The most rewarding aspect that clubs and activities provide more opportunities to learn and grow, and the ability to offer students a way to interact and become involved in the community, school, and other projects.
Great for these types of students The HCC campus student population is very diverse and very lively. The eclectic fashion combined with current and past trends is a wonderful atmosphere to be associated with. However, if you are the type to dial it up on the extreme scale, don't be alarmed when you get lingering stares. But most of all, I believe any student who wishes to attend HCC will enjoy the mixture of cultures, be accepted by many, and will have the capability and opportunity to make friends whomever it may be.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The HCC Ybor Campus is an interesting and historical location to attend college courses. Students have a broader freedom to walk around downtown Ybor, checkout interesting stores and restaurants, and be pleasantly engulfed by the historical aspect of the buildings, signs, and cobbled roads of the early 1990's.
Bang for the buck In the past few years the price of attending college has been increasingly rising, and it's very concerning especially for students who are in need of help financially. Although I have noticed a rise in the price per credit hour at HCC, It doesn't compare to prices of other institutions. The education is exactly the same if you were to attend a four year university but 1/4 of the price, which is why many choose to dual enroll.
What to do for fun There is plenty of things to do on campus as well as off campus, either it's an organized activity which involves the whole campus, or if it's only associated with a specific class or project. You can catch up with former class mates over a cup of coffee or sit in on a guest speaker who is of importance: for example, the president of the United States, Obama, came to the Dale Mabry campus to speak to the students. That's just one significant and memorable event organized by the school. There is a variety of other activities and clubs that are always going on, and many students and faculty are able to attend and participate.
Food and Dining College students seem to live and breath coffee which in my case, I can say it's true. They provide a cafe that nearly serves all fancy coffees, but throughout the Dale Mabry campus coffee can be purchased in two other locations. The other food location is a mini market and i must admit, the variety of sugar pumped candy as well as the variety of healthy choice items, are normally fully stocked except during summer session A. Which is one of the reasons why i chose to rank food and dinning a three; however, during summer session A, most of the staff go on vacation as well the students. The cafeteria or dinning hall, offers reasonable priced food, but the variety is very minimal, which also contributed towards the rating.
Dorm Life Hawks Landing Apartments are fairly new only located at the main campus, Dale Mabry. Some positive aspects about the campus housing are as followed: easy online reservation, fully-furnished, quick campus access, gym, computer room, and a game room. Although these amenities are provided, take into consideration their is a larger negative list upon living within Hawks Landing, which is why I chose to rank dorm life a two. A few downsides would be the pricing of the units and utilities; security is fairly low even though guards are are authorized to constantly patrol the entrance and around the apartments; the surrounding houses and community is an eyesore; little management and maintenance interaction; these dorms atmosphere are frequently noisy and offer limited parking; and lastly the students occupying the units are occasionally unfriendly.
Academic Rigor HCC accommodates a wide diversity of students, many of whom face personal or academic challenges. But the atmosphere they provide for the students are always welcoming and comforting, which is why i rated their academic rigor a five. The teachers are very knowledgeable and not only does the professors educate students at HCC, they also divide their time and dedication to other institutes, either at a four year or a two year college. The professors also offer insight to new ideas pertaining to their class material, and a majority of the teachers are caring and compassionate towards educating students. Although some courses can be extremely difficult and sometimes complex, HCC offers an abundant of academic support services. The few most commonly known services centers are the academic support center, writing center, and the learning resource center.
Tips for prospective students HCC is a very popular two year college and they continue to expand there educational facilities throughout Florida. Although HCC is well known throughout the community, the hustle and bustle of former and new students can cause chaos and stress, which may disrupt your schedule and life. So I advise all students to consider a good structured time management strategy, and face the challenges of possible stressors: a few examples that one will most likely encounter are higher expectations, difficult workloads, and the anxious feeling of transitioning. While the subject of time managing and pressures of life may bring little thoughts of concern, just remember, the more you're able to practice good time management strategies, as well as stress-reducing techniques, the easier, better, relaxed, and confident you'll be throughout your college career.
In three sentences A college education is a valuable gift that is uniquely your own. At Hillsborough Community College, they provide students with the tools and knowledge to be successful and allows students to achieve their desires and goals. HCC is a great place to start your college education.

Clubs and Activities Good club activity but not enough word of mouth to make clubs as big as they could be.

What to do for fun Very often, there are events set up for the students.
Food and Dining No cafe:/ Bookstore has snacks and drinks though.
Dorm Life Dorms and student housing is all the way on Dale Mabry. Too far for most South Shore students.
Academic Rigor Teachers are very detailed. There are also on campus tutors who don't mind helping students for FREE.
Tips for prospective students If you would like an environment where you can have more of a first name basis with the teachers and more of an easy going experience with student services, South Shore Campus at Hillsborough Community College is the place to be.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus HCC always has music playing on campus and there are usually clubs set up outside giving out free food.
Food and Dining The cafeteria offers breakfast food for on the go as well as lunch. They have healthy options such as fresh salads and chicken, or not so healthy foods that tend to attract the majority of the student population such as muffins and soda.
Dorm Life I do not currently live in a dorm. To be completely honest, I was unaware that HCC even had dorms. Even if they did, I would probably still live at home where rent is FREE!
Academic Rigor The level of difficulty of the class often fluxuates, but the teachers offer tutoring sessions when the path gets a little rough. The basic/general classes are mostly reviews from high school so you really have nothing to worry about. Each level up spends the first month or so primarily reviewing the previous course.
Tips for prospective students Allow yourself a whole day to wait in line for any assistance from the student services. If you think calling the main office or financial aid department would be faster, you're terribly mistaken; you will be on hold forever and you usually bounce back and forth between three and four people before your question finally gets resolved. When it comes to the classes however, the teachers are there for YOU; most have tutoring sessions to help students so don't be afraid to join!
In three sentences The classes are smaller than a University, therefore the teachers have more time to spend on individual needs of students. The financial aid office however is horrendous! The lines are out the door and there are usually only one or two adviser's working, leaving you waiting in line for two hours even for the smallest things.

Food and Dining The cafeteria is pretty good.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is a number one priority here at HCC. Thankfully I have never heard of an incident, but I am sure that something has happened and the security always knows how to handle it.
Clubs and Activities HCC has all of the clubs of a university and the possibility to start new ones each and every day. There is something for everyone, Student Government, Art, Poetry, Veterans, and Phi Theata Kappa. So if you cannot find anything that interest you come up with a new idea that appeals to you and others and try to make it happen. Therefore, if you cannot find something to do that fits in with your interests you just do not want to do anything.
Great for these types of students HCC has a type of learning environment for all students. There are online classes for those that just want to get their classes over with, the small class size helps with auditory learners by being able to hear the instructor better, and extensive explanation and examples for those that learn visually and by application.
Bang for the buck You definitely get a lot of bang for a little buck. Classes are only a fraction of most four year universities and still have the same material. The class sizes accommodate everyone with equal opportunity for help instead of being a number in most of the general classes at a university. In addition to all this with tuition cost you get a lot of other perks such as tutoring for those harder classes, free printing within reason, unlimited computer use and much more. So especially if you are just starting out or just want to save some money and still get the same education HCC is the best and most sound cost effective way for college education.
What to do for fun There are all kinds of things to do on campus in your free time or just to kill time in between classes. There is a student lounge that has all your entertainment needs, such as a pool table, a ping pong table, game systems, computers and much more. There are also computers all over the campus to do work for a different class while waiting for the next one to start.
Food and Dining There is no set food and dining on campus, but there is always some kind of activity of festival type thing going on that the Student Government puts on that is always a good time.
Dorm Life HCC only has one campus, in Tampa off Dale Mabry, that has housing available for students. Therefore, I would suggest against it if possible since there are other campuses all over the county to accommodate students in different areas.
Academic Rigor HCC is no different than most other schools that we have all attended, there are the really exceptional teachers and the ones that we all wonder who gave them a degree. Most of the teachers and other faculty members are great and will teach you everything on the subject, and with the small class sizes it is the best way to spend your money for the general education classes. However, like I said there are a few of those teachers that you should avoid, but some students excess in those classes as well which shows that there is something here for every learning style.
Tips for prospective students Even though this is a community college I would advise that you take this seriously and do not blow it off just because it is not the school that you plan to finish with. This is the gateway to the rest of your college education and we all want to set the bar high and keep that standard. I am sure that we have all been in that hole that we dug out from being lazy and we all know how hard it is to climb back out.
In three sentences This school is a great choice for anyone that is straight out of high school and wants to get a start on their general education classes before attending a four year university. They offer exceptional class sizes in order to give personalized attention to those that need it more than others. Also, it helps that it is only a fraction of the price that most universities charge for the same education.

Food and Dining HCC has great places to eat, to do homework or just hang out before class.
Dorm Life I never lived in a dorm but I am sure it is great.
Academic Rigor HCC is challenging enough to learn, but the classes are small enough to get to know your peers and/or your teachers so you always have a resources to help you when you get stuck.
Tips for prospective students Always apply for financial aide no matter what your income. Try not to miss any classes, your grades will show this effort. Always take time to ask questions, someone else in class is wondering the same thing anyways. Come early the first day to find your way around and chill out a little before your first class. Clubs and Activities Im not a part of any clubs or campus activities but what they do for the student population is pretty great, if you are into these types of things they always have something going on.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Some days there are little events that go on where they give food, arts and crafts, and many other things during normal semesters.
Bang for the buck The courses are not overly expensive and they have an extensive curriculum so I believe its definitely worth it.
What to do for fun There are lots of clubs in the school that can realate to your lifestyle. I personally am not in any, I train Jiu Jitsu outside of school and work so I do not partake in any of the campus events.
Food and Dining Great food is always made there daily by chefs.

Great for these types of students Anybody wanting a cheap general education or anybody unable to attend a four year university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The school uses the tuition money to fund events on campus every Thursday.
Bang for the buck Your general education will be covered here at half the price of a university.
What to do for fun Go home, or do something else. I never found anything extracurricular that seemed any fun, except the chess matches in the ybor campus.
Food and Dining Cafeteria food that is overpriced but fast to serve.
Dorm Life live with your parents. Otherwise, I think there is an apartment complex for hcc students somewhere in Tampa. It looked ridiculously grungy and unappealing
Academic Rigor It is as Hard as you make it.
Tips for prospective students Do as much as you can in as little time as possible. Separate science, english, math and humanities by semesters in order to more effectively complete them. Check your classes so as to not attend classes unnecessary to your degree or transfer abilities.
In three sentences HCC is what I consider a stepping stone for those unable to achieve a place in a state university. Although I found HCC useful in economic aspects, I could not fully appreciate it as higher education due to the social stigma surrounding community colleges and those who attend them. My time here was well spent, however due to my own self worth, I feel like I should have done better in my own life in order to not have spent any time there at all.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Excellent and always present. I have never felt unsafe.
Greek Life None.
Clubs and Activities There aren't a big variety of clubs or activities and those that exist are very specific and only relate to a handful of students.
Great for these types of students Students who aren't ready to leave the nest or need a little more flexibility and budget-friendly option than a traditional college.
Bang for the buck For the price you can't beat the education you get at HCC. The professors and academics definitely prepare you for how you will use your degree in your daily life.
Food and Dining Not to bad. Just your normal processed American foods although the Ybor Campus does offer the cantina and several great restaurants down the block.
Dorm Life There is no real on campus or dorm life although they do offer Hawks Landing which is attached to the Dale Mabry Campus. I have heard from other students that for the price and location it is awesome.
Academic Rigor This is a community college so yes it isn't necessarily as difficult as most colleges but it is a step up from high school. Professors tend to push students harder at this community college than at most.
Tips for prospective students Avoid the Dale Mabry and Plant City campus. Professors tend to treat their students in demeaning manners or just all around disrespectfully. Ybor campus is the best for students who actually want to learn.

Categories Comments Campus Safety YBOR campus has the only visible security on campus. As for the Dale Mabry and Brandon campus at Hillsborough Community college.
Greek Life Normal
Clubs and Activities There arte plenty of clubs and activities on all campus to keep things fun.
Great for these types of students Great for students who is looking to save a little money on their first two years of college. but make sure you are in consent contact with the college you are expecting to transfer too. To make sure your taking the correct classes and that the credits are transferable to school. You don't to waste your time your money.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I normaly find the most quietess palce on campus to study or for some down time that is undiscovered by other students. Remember that there are cigarette smokes all over campus even though there are disignated areas to smoke. This happenes because the school dose not enforce safe areas for non-smokes.
Bang for the buck It is extremely important when dealing with the financail aid office or admissions office that you as a student ask detailed questions. And make sure your questions are answered with a direct answer to your question. This will make sure you are not giving a run around statement to get you out the office. Which will leave still confussed to why your situation is where it is and why it is yet to be corrected. Stay focused on the issue do not allow anyone in the office to rush you out. It is best to have a list of questions before ou arrive at any of these offices. Remember your their client not the other way around. These are services you paying for. do not expect either of the offices to take responsibility in any of the difficulties you are currently having. It will only get you on unfucused to why you there and increase your your agitation or anger. Do not expect the school to notify you of anything, they will not. Be on top of everything, think out of the box when it comes to solving a problem. Can't get a straight answer or your problem goes uncorrected. Request to speak to the head of the office. It is your right.
What to do for fun I normally watch a movie at home with some tasty desserts.
Food and Dining The food on campus is much to costly for a community college. Everything is priced two or three times the price of any item you can buy off campus.. The dining ares are not kept clean. The dining area is only cleaned once a day and that is at closing. and there isn't much variety.
Dorm Life Hillsborough Communitee College does not have a dorm for students. But, there is an apartment complex next to the school called Hawk Landing where students can rent a room. You will need to be of legal age (which is 18) to apply or have an adult complete the appilcation for you.
Academic Rigor Academicly the school is fairly challenging.
Tips for prospective students If your financail aid is delayed. Save yourself some valueable time by frist calling FAFSA. To find out if their is any issues showing on your FAFSA application that may be causing a delay. FAFSA will look through your application and, if there are any problems they will help you trouble shot and solve the problem. And, if necassary they will tell you what you need to do on your end. The school will not notify you of any issuses(thart's if they know themselvs). They will also let you know if Hillsborough received your financail aid and the date the school received your financail aid. Then you will be sure if there is exsisting issue with your financail aid application or, if Hillsborough Community College is simply incompetent in completing your paper work, in you to receiving your much needed financail assists. Unsually the school is incompetent in my experience and many students at the college will agree.
In three sentences The Financail Aid and, Admissions office has the same problem in the their ability to input new student information in their system. Input current student information is also a characterist of the school. A student bring to the attention any issues to the offices. But to often changes are not made until at least three complaints are made by the student. Causing needless anxity for the student such delayed financial aid, and being drop from your classes. And the chances of getting back in those classes are impossible. Because once their is an availble seat it quickly filled. These offices takes no responsibility in their work ethic and show no signs of improvement.

Food and Dining I'm glad the school offers a variety of food to choose from, especially the healthy food section.
Dorm Life None applicable - I still live at home with my disabled mother to help her.
Academic Rigor Well, since I'm still in the process of completing my first two years, the classes remind me of high school classes, but with more freedom and more responsibility. All of which makes it more challenging, and I like that.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you register early for the semester so that you can have a chance at applying for more grants and scholarships. Also, make sure that you ask questions for anything you may have doubts about.

Food and Dining The food is excellent and the prices are considerable.
Dorm Life I personally have not lived on campus but i do have friends who do and they have no complaints.
Academic Rigor The help is there you just have to want it.
Tips for prospective students The best tip for prospective students is to look at your course guide and plan out your courses on your own. Make sure you understand what is required from you to graduate. Once you have a good understanding of what is required plan your classes out.

Great for these types of students Financially independent students trying to save for tuition at the university level.
What to do for fun Aside from working out and being involved in clubs/sports there aren't any recreational activities available.
Food and Dining There are a decent number of restaurants and fast food locations around the Brandon campus.
Tips for prospective students 1) Studying is crucial in any college course. I strongly recommend time management and allotting appropriate time for studying. 2) Do not rely on online professor reviews. With my experiences, the reviews are sporadic and often inaccurate. Dropping courses is always an option at the beginning of a semester. 3) Attendance to lecture courses is vital. Missing days of class can absolutely damage a student's grade.
In three sentences Hillsborough Community College provides high school seniors with a smooth transition to the university level, while also cutting tuition expenses. Courses are not as challenging at the school as I had previously expected, which is a disappointment. However, I am satisfied with the professors' intent to truly educate his or her students.

Academic Rigor i am in the nursing program and it is quite challenging but i know that with the help of my teacher and fellow students i will succeed.
Tips for prospective students make sure all of your papers are ready for financial aid, dont hold anything to do later.
In three sentences great teachers who are there to help you fulfill your goals. there are students there who are dedicated to success. there are plenty of programs to choose from.

Bang for the buck I really can not afford the tuition at a university, this is great to be able to obtain your general studies credits at a lower rate, and be about to transfer them to an university.
Am enjoying being here I am enjoying being here because this is a wonderful learning environment,
Am learning a lot I am learning a lot here at HCC. My instructors are all great, they really care about you succeeding.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Study hard and do not slack off. School is only for a short part of your life if you do it right, so do not waste your time not studying you can party later.
Bang for the buck I feel my money is waster on non needed books. So far 3 of my classes have needed at least 1 book i have never used.
Am enjoying being here It is fun to be in school again and this one is not top notch but it does very good with the resources it has available.
Am learning a lot All the classes I have attended so far have taught me a lot. I actually learned a good bit about science in my Earth Science class. The remedial Math class I have taken have actually taught me more then I thought they would.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Everyone who cant be at a university right away, those seeking 2 year degrees.
Tips for prospective students Try to get all your classes back to back and a little break in the middle. No its better to get all your classes done in a day at the beginning then go in the morning for one class then at night for another, everyday. Try to stick to one campus at a time, some classes are only offered on one campus, group your classes by days and campuses. All keep maps of the campuses you're attending.
Bang for the buck Unfortunately HCC's tution was just raised. But it is still cheaper then most Universities.
Am enjoying being here Its a great college and I've enjoyed every minute of being here.
Am learning a lot For a community college, HCC still has a lot to offer. Now as I move on to a FAU I'm glad I got such great instruction from all of HCC's finest.

Tips for prospective students The lines are ridiculous, so try to to everything ahead of time or online.
Bang for the buck HCC is cheaper than a university. You'll save money for better education than a university for all your general education classes.
Am enjoying being here Lots of activities both at the Dale Mabry and at the Brandon campuses. They give free stuff often, including free food! Classes are mostly chill even if they are hard classes.
Am learning a lot Classes are much smaller than at a university, so you are much more likely to learn through individualized attention from your teacher. Teachers actually have time to answer people's questions and most have long office hours to help students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those who want to meet with their professors personally. Not everybody can just sit in a room the size of an auditorium and no expect to stop and ask for questions when something doesn't click right away.
Tips for prospective students Always manage your time wisely. This is still college, so there may come a time when you will be overwhelmed by the workload. The best way to avoid these types of situations is to make yourself a personal calendar of due dates.
Bang for the buck This college is pretty cheap, and you get a good education. It's a little over $100 per credit hour for in-state tuition, about $380 for out-of-state. It's a pretty good deal, since you save A LOT of money, and you get a better education than a University would offer, since in this institution, one can go up to their professors to ask any questions.
Am enjoying being here I definitely enjoy being here, as there are lounges for some of the students to relax in after class. Campus is not that big, and not that small, so you can find your away around the campus pretty easily.
Am learning a lot Learning will definitely be easier when there are fewer students in a class. The teachers are able to take the time to focus on one person if need be.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students with limited resources, living with parents, or low on cash for classes. Community colleges are generally cheaper per credit hour than a university, so don't rule them out.
Tips for prospective students FAFSA is really important, don't shrug it off just because you don't think you'll qualify. If you don't apply for it, you can't get a lot of things that the school offers in financial aid.
Bang for the buck Young, single mother, no job. Thanks to bright futures, the federal pell grant, and the academic competitive grant, I get paid to go to school.
Am enjoying being here The teachers are awesome, my classmates are great, and they really offer a lot: gym, on campus child care, free plays and concerts, library, wifi, if they had free food and a swimming pool I'd never leave. lol
Am learning a lot As a young mom, it's hard to find the time to really spend on studying and homework, but I've found that my classmates and teachers are always really helpful in making sure I understand what's going on.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If your forced to go to college, don't care about what name is on the degree (if you even graduate), like wearing PJ's (which seamed to be the norm in the Student Services building), or have someone else paying for your education with the caveat that you attend HCC, then this is the school for you. If you come from a middle to upper-middle socioeconomic background, you might be appalled at the level of customer service, lack of cleanliness and general overall impression of the school as a whole. If you don't mind driving between multiple campuses (because the main campus apparently can only assist you with classes held at their campus) then you will not mind the run-around you are sure to face when you attempt to register for classes. If you are looking for a technical certification through an accredited university and unfortunately HCC is your only option, knowing the battles you are going to face before attempting to register might make the enormous urge to consistently say are you kidding me more manageable.
Tips for prospective students Check out any and all available educational institutions. If HCC is your only option, make sure you maintain meticulous notes and records including names of those you spoke too, dates when you spoke with them, copies of all records and any other valuable information. I was amazed at the number of disgruntled students I ran into while visiting the campus. Some in tears.
Bang for the buck While community colleges do provide a discounted rate for your first 60 credit hours towards a BA/BS, I would highly recommend an alternative community college or four year university for study. You might save a few bucks attending HCC but if you are required to retake classes at no fault of your own, (ie... the student in front of me whom passed his Fall classes but the computer reported all classes were failed) you're better off paying the little extra at the state university than wasting your time at HCC.
Will enjoy being here Based on the attitude of the staff and assistants working within the Student Services building, I have absolutely no desire to pursue this school any further. It is evident in the condition of the campus (both outside and inside) that providing a healthy, safe and sanitary learning environment is not priority.
Will learn a lot I recently visited the Student Services building at the Dale Mabry campus. This was my first visit and first impression of the school. The campus was filthy with litter and the inside of the student services building too was quite dirty and unkept. The purpose of my visit was to inquire about financial aid and the start of a technical program since I currently have my BA (and HCC is the only accredited school in the area). I initially called to request an appointment but was told over the phone they only accept walk-ins. I checked in at the main desk, waited 45 minutes to meet with a councilor, only to be greeted by a current student with difficulty speaking English answer only a 1/3 of my questions. When I asked to speak directly with a councilor, I was told to make an appointment. Which at this point infuriated me. Just at the point I was ready to give up, I was directed to Financial Aid, which was closed. If this is any indication of the quality of service this school provides, it's no wonder why their graduation and retention rate is extremely poor.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It's great for those who need to save money, people who have children, full/part-time jobs, odd schedules, etc. This school is really for everyone and anyone.
Tips for prospective students It's a big step from high school to college, we all understand that. Coming to HCC will be a wonderful idea if you are looking for a comfortable transition. The teachers will work with you especially if you have a job and work difficult schedules, you just need to be vocal about it in a respectful manor.
Bang for the buck HCC is very affordable compared to any University, and the quality of learning here is more hands on than it is at Universities. So you are paying half the money for more efficient learning experiences! How much better does it get?!
Am enjoying being here I am at the HCC Dale Mabry campus for the medical program. It is a very big campus and can sometimes be rather confusing (especially for people in their first semesters) and parking is rather hectic, but no worries, everyone catches on within the first few days! The campus itself is in wonderful condition and although it hosts over half the students attending any HCC campus, it is very clean.
Am learning a lot Coming out of high school, I was not expecting professors who were so passionate about what they were teaching. Some of them might be a little stricter than others but regardless they are all still there to help you learn. As long as you don't waste their time and treat them with respect I guarantee you will have wonderful experiences.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students its great chose the best option that is save money and become the same you will be in whatever university, also help you to rise your average and going excellent to where you want to go, just study hard and make you life better and easier.
Tips for prospective students Just i want to say you, if you are looking this, think about your future, the power of your life is your knowing. You can chose whatever university or college if is better for you, bit i recommended HCC, is the best, good communication between teachers and students servises workers, they have many variety of activitys there and you can have fun in whatever place there, good luck!!! and think about it, is a good option. just apply, register on time, chose the best class on time because later the class will be full, you have many benefits there, and study a lot to accomplish your dream no fear everything will be OK.
Bang for the buck I think spite of all that i said above HCC is not more expensive than whatever college or university, i think is too good the teaching that is not problem pay for that. I mean, i think is ridiculous pay so much money for your future, that's no fair, but i applied to many college and universities and is more expensive than HCC.
Am enjoying being here I am attending to the HCC Ybor Campus, because is the only one that have the music program. I'm enjoy being here because is a really nice place, is and the old place of Tampa. Sometime when i finish the classes I'm going around the college to some restaurant or park near, is a place where you can sit quiet and study any assignature, is beautiful, i love HCC.
Am learning a lot This is my first semester here at HCC , honestly, i don't have any problem here, I,m Cuban and I'm just came here 2 years ago without the language and that didn't affect to me until now. The teachers are fabulous, they explain you everything no matter how many time you ask. They always ask you if you are good at school or out of it. Yes, is a lot of work there sometime you don't have a break because is so much practice and hard work, but i know is for the best. The teachers have a lot of students, all with different problems in different situation and they adopt your place and make your task easier, and in the homework the look step by step you work and the simple error they explain you very well. They replay every question you have to any hour of the day by e-mail. I'm very proud of attending to Hcc, I hope that will be an a better option for you.

Tips for prospective students Apply early and register as early as you can. Wait times are long and class openings are limited. Be sure to have all the info that you need before you go on campus because they will not take half information. Usually the phones are not answered during registration season.
Am learning a lot I am a transcient student here, but am thinking of turning it into a full time status. If you want a good math instructor (from MAT0012-College Algebra), get Janet Sibol, she's AWESOME!

Tips for prospective students It is hard work but overall Distance Learning with HCC was a good benefit. I was able to work full-time, take my exams and assignments online when I had the time to. The time frame for all classes was great. The teachers give ample time to turn in assignments and are always able to help if you have any questions.
Did learn a lot As a Distance Learning student I appreciated the teachers' fast reply to my questions.
