Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe. They always send out alert emails to all their students if there is ever a potential dangerous situation. I usually see police cars patrolling daily to make sure that everyone is safe.
What to do for fun I love when they have little fun student event days. One time there was a student event where you could pet dogs. I really enjoyed that as well as the food options at the event.
Food and Dining Food is pretty good. I like that there is a subway on the main campus. I wish there were more coffee places around because I don't overly enjoy the quiet cafe's coffee but it is sufficient.
Dorm Life I can only give this one star because there is no option for dorms here. I don't think this is a negative aspect though because this is a community college not a university and doesn't need dorms.
Tips for prospective students Go to this college before you head to university for your bachelors. It will save you so much money in the future and it is easier to get into the college life transitioning from a community college to a university.
In three sentences I love this college because it has given me the chance to get my associates debt free. They have so many different course options that I can choose from. It is close to where I live and isn't a huge campus so I don't get lost easily.

Categories Comments Campus Safety GRCC takes campus saftey very seriously. They make sure students are aware of the proper protocol for different situations, and they also make sure students feel comfortable confiding in them when problems may arrise on campus.
Greek Life Grand Rapids Community College offers quite a few Greek Clubs! They are all involved in the community. The Greek Clubs also are very incolved with the students and staff at Grand Rapids Community College.
Great for these types of students Grand Rapids Community College is great for anyone!
What to do for fun Grand Rapids Community College has a lot of things to do for fun like, there academic and social clubs, they offer culinary programs, GRCC has a lovely gym, and there is always a cool free activity downtown.
Dorm Life There are not any dorms at Grand Rapids Community College.
Tips for prospective students A few tips for prosepctive students is to one pick a major or have a career feild in mind as you are enrolling in classes, second never give up no matter how hard things may get, and third I reccomend that students should make it a habit of forming study and homework schedules early.
In three sentences Grand Rapids Community College has a family- like atmosphere, where Professors work hard to create a positive learning atmosphere for students. GRCC is affordable. I also appreciate the diversity that GRCC offerrs, I would definitely reccommend Grand Rapids Community College to other students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It seems sufficient to me, but I am a 30 year old guy. It doesn't matter where you live or where you are, or even male or female, you can never be too cautious even if security is top notch.
Greek Life None that I am involved with so I cannot comment.
Clubs and Activities None that I am involved with so I cannot comment.
Great for these types of students Students who are frugal and understand that they can take basic classes at a lower cost per credit prior to moving on to an upper grad college.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None that I am aware of. Pretty diverse group of young adults trying to get their undergrad classes out of the way.
Bang for the buck I wrote the following essay when instructed to by my English Comp 102 teacher. He had had some complaints, as well as attendance issues and wanted everyone to turn in an essay based on their own "anonymous" opinion; My overall impression with English Composition 102, has unfortunately been mostly negative. I did not enjoy the class whatsoever mainly due to feeling as if it was a waste of my time and money. The reason I say this is it was my understanding that English Composition 102 would be an extension of English Composition 101. I assumed that I, along with my fellow classmates, would gain the skills and / or experience that I had understood as to be the next style of learning in this category. I expected there would be more of an emphasis on critical reading and analysis to hone in on the writing and thinking skills that we began in English 101. My learning style, along with the majority of others in my class, seemingly did not coincide with the way material was taught by this academic leader. I felt like there was a lack of any "clear material" taught or explained in class as to what was expected of us. All of the projects that were assigned, consisted of reading literature out of our book and writing an essay about said material. I didn't feel like there was an abundance of effort put forth into the "teaching portion". This was a huge disappointment to someone like myself, who truly wanted to learn more about writing. Honestly this has left me feeling ripped off. As for peer review, this was nearly useless for me. Like I said, I would have rather learned more about the paper we were assigned to write, what was expected from the content, including moving from the subjective to the objective content for example. Reading other classmates papers only confused me and others. I apologize profusely if this seems harsh, but I value my time very dearly. To come to a class after working all day, (full time), and not gaining much content week after week during this particular class, was/has been very disappointing for me. I considered dropping the class, but I was too far in at that point. That being said, I did gain some knowledge of writing simply by being assigned so many essays, due to the volume of writing we were expected to accomplish. Not having a clear objective of what was expected of me, left me feeling as if I was guessing as to what I was accomplishing though. I still am unsure of what I did correctly or incorrectly for that matter. I would like to make several suggestions that would make EN102 a more enjoyable and fulfilling class. First of all, I feel as if it would make a nice option as an online class. The entire semester could have been packaged into an online unit very easily. The class before our observation essay when we sat around trying to determine what specifications that our teacher wanted for the paper is testament for this suggestion. I felt as we wasted an entire class all seemingly leaving clueless when we couldn't reach an understanding. I considered the workload perfect. Our agenda and syllabus was laid out well and I never felt overwhelmed accomplishing the essays assigned, which made that portion enjoyable. Grading was on par with what I would expect from a college 102 class, but I still felt like I didn't know what I was doing. I don't remember being in the lab once, unless it was scheduled on a day I was sick. The trip to the library was a positive key point for me. I believe I learned more this day than I did during any other class in English Composition 102. I learned useful information about how to research for projects, as well as how to find helpful resources. This class was taught by one of the library staff, she remained on topic and held my attention during the entire class. This is one of the skills I will be using throughout my college career. The argumentative essay was my favorite project during this semester. I want to learn more about concessions, counter-arguments, opposing views, and the likes, after writing this type of paper. The amount of time we had was just right for a paper of this caliber. I found myself slipping towards the end of the semester because I was loosing concentration with the class, therefore, not putting as much effort into my presentation. I feel that I am a proficient writer, but lacking in several areas. I lack the ability to find the right words to use and sometimes the correct combination of them. Suffering from dyslexia from time to time, I often start my sentences backwards and work in the opposite direction. Maybe this is part of my voice as an author? I feel as if I didn't really use my voice in my argumentative essay, something I wanted to discover during this essay. Trying my voice in other papers didn't yield good results, so I lost enthusiasm towards this effort after that. That being said, I am really unsure if I found my voice or know how to use it. High school English didn't teach me much about the actual mechanics of writing. I need to learn this. I would suggest that every writing class taught during these years, whether it be middleschool, highschool, or college, that this topic be refreshed at the very least. Learning to write and finding your voice is one thing, but the contextual form is very important for everyone. Whenever I try to learn something new on my own, I try to learn the basic theory behind the subject first. I'm not a teacher, but I have found this extremely helpful for me as an individual. All things considered, when it comes to learning at any level, individuals learn so differently. In this day in age this has been very well determined and should be always taken into consideration. Everything that I've written to this point has been rather negative and I will say that my teacher is a nice person. I didn't feel as if he was being malicious towards me or anyone else whatsoever. Like I said before, I'm not a teacher and it is quite possible that I just learn differently. It may be a very important consideration that I should keep in mind when choosing teachers for my future classes and their teaching techniques, reviews, etc. If I chose to make a different choice during this semester, it would most definitely be voicing my concerns and opinions. I am partially to blame for my disdain and frustration towards this class. I can often be outspoken, however, with all of the other arguments that my fellow classmates were making, I didn't feel like adding additional comments. I do not see this class as a complete failure, rather experience gained for the rest of my college career.
What to do for fun I mainly work on my 1988 BMW and my families cars, as well as fix up my older home. Real fun includes golfing with my buddies and my new found hobby that I really enjoy, mountain biking. I run for the physical aspect and stress relief. Most of all, hanging out with my wife and 3 dogs would be at the top of my list.
Food and Dining I have not required this need as I attend part time and live in the area.
Dorm Life I live in the area and do not use this option.
Academic Rigor There are some academic teachers that are more interested in teaching than others. Do your do diligence and READ reviews. I currently have an English Comp 102 teacher that has taught me basically nothing. He also leaves you confused as to his expectations. Difficult course since the majority of it is writing essays in which he has the ability to grade them according to his own thoughts and feelings. My advice, challenge these grades if you truly feel you did a better job than given credit for. Ask what you could have done differently so that you know exactly why you received the grade that you did.
Tips for prospective students Review teachers online prior to signing up for their classes!!!!!
In three sentences Great for undergrad class requirements. Cost is decent, especially if you can commute while living in the area. Courses are available that will typically fit into your employment schedule (if employeed).

Categories Comments In three sentences GRCC has made my dual enrollment experience phenomenal. I am able to maintain college classes while in high school, working, and having a busy family. When I am on campus for tests, I feel safe. I have seen a security guard at least once every time I have been on campus. They are here for us all, and it's provides a feeling of family.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We're downtown not only do we have campus security, but also the actual police located downtown. Nothing bad ever happens at my school.
Clubs and Activities I wish their were more sports at GRCC although the clubs are great, if we lack something you are able to start it.
Great for these types of students Students who don't have the money to go to a big university or college.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The gym is great! I tend to go to the gym as much as possible. It helps that it's free for students too!
Bang for the buck It's so affordable, great to go for two years then transfer, and it prepares you for a 4 year university.
What to do for fun I play soccer, work out, and spend times with friends.
Food and Dining Food is cheap and offers a very good variety.
Dorm Life They do not have dorms.
Academic Rigor I have heard from students who also attend the big universities, but take some classes here it's basically taught just as well some even better.
Tips for prospective students Study, get as much help as you can, and manage your time in between classes effectively.
In three sentences I love how it is so affordable for everyone. I love the amount of help they offer their students. I love how the professors care about their students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who would like to save money during their first years of post-secondary education or try out certain classes.
Bang for the buck If commuting daily isn't an issue for a student, starting at GRCC can save thousands of dollars each year. A few professors will also help students to save even more.
What to do for fun GRCC's main campus has a selection of clubs/sports students are able to participate in. Aside from that, there aren't many options on campus.
Food and Dining There is a limited set of options for food since this is a community college.
Dorm Life Since this is a community college, there are no dorms.
Academic Rigor Professors stick to their plans to get things done. The college will provide the tools needed for their career and the student will be expected to use those tools.
Tips for prospective students Speaking with the advisors on a regular basis is a smart thing to do. If you're determined to study, they can help you create a clear plan for your college career. Teachers will also be glad to help you if you take the time to ask them for help.
In three sentences Being a community college, GRCC won't offer everything that bigger (and more expensive) schools will offer, but they seem to do a great job at providing the proper things to get started on a bachelor's degree or complete an associate's degree. The advisors, as well as a few teachers, are very helpful when a student seeks guidance on how they should go about to get their degree. Like other schools, there will be some professors that will go out of their way to help you, while other professors will focus on doing only what's required of them.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck It's a great education for Community College prices. Sure, it won't get you a Bachelors Degree but it can certainly get you some credits toward it.
Food and Dining There are some restaurants and cafes on campus but I haven't eaten at any of them yet.
Academic Rigor The education that you receive at a community college is, contrary to popular belief, really quite good. The courses can be challenging at times but the instructors are there for you. They want to help you succeed.
Tips for prospective students Get to know your instructor a bit. It makes the classes more exciting. Also, plan on having trouble finding a parking spot for at least the first few weeks. However, the bus comes right to the campus so it's easy to get where you're going through the bus system.
In three sentences GRCC is a great place to get an Associates Degree or transfer credits toward a Bachelors Degree. The faculty are great and the class size is small. This makes for good interaction with the instructors.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are tons of restaurants around campus within walking distance, and GRCC has movie premiers and it's own cafe, plus tons of other things.
Dorm Life There aren't dorms.
Tips for prospective students If you're trying to find what you want to do in life, GRCC is for you. There are hundreds of classes at affordable rates to find what suits you best.
In three sentences Affordable higher education. I chose to complete my gen eds here rather than at an Art School and it is literally 1/3 of the cost, and a lot of my professors also teach at the art school. I am getting the same education I would be getting at art school for 1/3 of the cost.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck It's about a quarter of the price of a four year university. You get basically the same classes and same work load. Most classes will transfer.
What to do for fun It's in the heart of Grand Rapids, there are so many different things to do. It's not far from Eastown, which has plenty to do for college-aged kids. Go explore the city! You will not be disappointed.
Food and Dining I suggest going to Jimmy John's down the street.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor The professors are very good at what the do, they are there to help you. Utilize them. If you don't understand something, stay after or use their office hours.
Tips for prospective students Get there early to find a parking spot. Don't get the parking pass for the church lot unless you have classes at Sneden Hall.
In three sentences It is a very fast paced environment in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. The professors are helpful, much like high school teachers. The students are very diverse, from fresh out of high school kids to middle-aged single mothers.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This campus is one safe community college I'd say. I only been to one other community college before this one, but I don't remember the safety like this college had. For one Grand Rapids Police Department is less than two minutes away. They also have emergency stations all throughout to press the red button and alert the police. They have a big light above it that will flicker like a cop cars lights or maybe a strobe light. Not to sure because I never seen anyone have to press the red button. Also if there is any serious threat and you have your cell phone on file a text will be sent out alerting you of a stalker who hasn't been caught or whatever it may be.
What to do for fun I'm not sure, I mainly went for my classes then I left. If you find yourself with free time in between classes there are plenty of computer stations for students to surf the web and do homework on. They also have a gym you can kill time in working out.
Food and Dining I liked the food GRCC had to offer, although some of it is a bit pricey. I got a four slice mini pizza from the Raider Cafe for $5 something and expected it to be bigger for the price. They also have a Subway and another little kitchen in the cafeteria of the Main Building. Underneath the Student Center they also have the Raider Grill another cafeteria offering soup and other food.
Dorm Life I don't believe there are dorms. I commuted from Allegan,MI for about a 45 minute drive.
Academic Rigor My two semesters at GRCC wasn't very challenging. Although if you procrastinate you may fall behind being a full time student. If you stay focused and do your homework and of course show up for class you will do fine.
In three sentences GRCC is a good all around community college to attend with a great staff and diverse student base. It's very easy once you finally are enrolled to choose classes or even set-up a counselor visit. If your interested in transferring from GRCC to a four year university they'll have a guide for you with I think most of the universities in Michigan.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Our campus has, on campus police right across the street from the main campus, I feel pretty safe. Also the Professors are made to lock there doors.
Clubs and Activities Student life, has lots of clubs you can join.
Great for these types of students GRCC would be great for all students including, non traditional students like myself. GRCC students range from different ages of people and everybody gets along.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Sneden Hall, that's one of the off campus location but do not worry because they (GRCC) have and free shuttle bus that runs from there to the main campus.
Bang for the buck I think GRCC would be a great place to start,if you are thinking about going to an University GRCC is the best place to start, small class sizes and the professors always have time to talk to you and they are good at emailing you back on time.
What to do for fun Go to the G.R Ford field house, it's free for all GRCC students. You can swim and exercise there for free.
Food and Dining All the dinning areas are the best place to meet new people, there is always someone there.
Dorm Life I do not stay on campus.
Tips for prospective students Come to Grand Rapids Community with a open mind, it's just like a normal college. Everybody there are so helpful. The first semester might be hard but there are people who can help you get through it, like your academic counselor.
In three sentences Great place to meet new people. There is always something to do. Professors are so caring.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are phones for campus security but the campus is in an urban environment and that does reflect the crime rate.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities, but many of them aren't really developed yet.
Great for these types of students Students who are looking to save money, or stay home and help their family out financially.
Bang for the buck The professors here actually CARE. They will help you through your classes if you're struggling, and there are tutoring labs you can attend almost anytime. The price of the schooling is wonderful for the amount of services provided..
What to do for fun It's always fun to check out street musicians down by Rosa Parks Circle, or just walk around downtown. There are also often campus activities to occupy your time between classes, or you could make use of that time and get homework done!
Food and Dining The food on campus is not the best and is rather pricey. But there are many cute restaurants you can walk to downtown that are really good.
Dorm Life There are no dorms for Grand Rapids Community College.
Academic Rigor Grand Rapids Community College is not challenging especially if you take GenEd classes. It can be more challenging through the honor's program, but not by much.
Tips for prospective students Test out of easy classes such as College Algebra and English 101 and 102 if you can. Also, make sure to take hard classes at Grand Rapids Community College rather than your transfer school to save yourself from a low GPA.
In three sentences The professors at Grand Rapids Community College genuinely care that their students have the tools they need to succeed. The atmosphere between students is less inviting. The urban environment is fun and upbeat.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Cops is all over GRCC main campus
Great for these types of students GRCC is one of the best option for people looking to becoming Chiefs
Bang for the buck GRCC is the cheapest college in the Grand Rapids area
What to do for fun At GRCC, we have plays and concerts. However GRCC is limited compared to other colleges when it comes to fun.
Food and Dining GRCC has no food and dining
Dorm Life GRCC has no dorms
Academic Rigor GRCC is as hard as the student makes it. The college has a lot of classes that's high school level for people who are not at a college level yet. GRCC support staff will help you get to where ever you want to go. So, if you are a dedicated individual GRCC will be easy for you.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend to whoever is thinking about going to GRCC to talk to an adviser at the college. Also, check on the teachers rating before signing up for their class (you can do this by typing their full name into Google). This is to make sure you have good teachers that knows how to teach instead of tell.
In three sentences GRCC is great to get an associate degree and/or transfer to a University. The Tuition is cheap and they will work with you if you are not at a college level yet. GRCC has a lot of talented teachers.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a police station right across the street, and it's a 5 minute walk to downtown so it's a safe area.
Great for these types of students Low-income, not sure what they want to major in yet.
What to do for fun Art prize, museums, concerts and shows. But that's all things that are just from Grand Rapids not from the school. The school offers a membership to their gym for free, if you consider that fun.
Food and Dining Subway is the best your gonna get, unless you want to walk to buffalo wild wings, which is in walking distance but not in the college student budget.
Dorm Life There are no living areas for GRCC.
Academic Rigor Teachers are nice, but they don't seem to care so much
Tips for prospective students Try not to schedule classes to begin right before morning traffic or end right before afternoon traffic.
In three sentences It's a 3 star community college.

Clubs and Activities I am yet to attend a club but they all look very fun!
What to do for fun I enjoy walking around campus in between my classes and walking downtown with friends.
Food and Dining In my opinion, GRCC should have more options than subway. A free or low priced salad bar would be very nice!
Dorm Life I wish GRCC had dorms so that I could make more friends and not have to drive to school everyday as a full time student.
Academic Rigor I enjoy my classes and professors very much!
Tips for prospective students I would recommend attending orientation because that is where I met most of my friends and counselors. I would also recommend attending the rally because it is a lot of fun and I was able to find all my classes by attending the rally.
In three sentences GRCC is an college to start off with the college life. I have enjoyed meeting new friends and also my professors. I will continue to go to GRCC until I have completed taking my general classes and move on to a university!

Categories Comments Campus Safety If feeling unsafe to walk to your car, you can always go to the campus police station and ask to be escorted to your car. They are always willing.
Greek Life There isn't one.
Clubs and Activities There aren't many clubs, but the ones that do exist seem great to join.
Great for these types of students Great for those who are not sure what to do with their major.
Bang for the buck Great place to get your general education for the cheap. Well cheaper than a four year university.
What to do for fun When I have time between classes or after class I like to wonder downtown, especially during Art Prize/
Food and Dining Food is really good at the Raider Grille, but a little pricey for a college student.
Dorm Life There isn't a dorm life.
Academic Rigor The teachers are great. Too bad I can't say that for all the students there.
Tips for prospective students This is a great place to get your general studies done and not wasting THOUSANDS of dollars when you're unsure about your major.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never had anything bad happen to me or my car etc. There are emails and texts mesg sent to all students when a car has been broken into or if a student did have an encounter just to keep us on alert. There is armed security at all night class so I feel safer when walking out in the dark to my car
Greek Life There are class about greek studies but not much on the whole sororities and fraternities. Being a community school means a lot of kids travel so no one really has time to create a house.
Clubs and Activities There is a lot of clubs and activities for anyone. I love that my school has an anime/ manga club. However the only down side to the clubs is that most meet up in the main campus so if you don't live in the area, then that drive can get long and costly.
Great for these types of students Grcc is great for transfer students, it is cheap and most MI schools take GRCC credits. Also good for a kid who is still unknow about what they what to study. Class are cheap here and making a mistake won't cost you as much.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a lake shore campus in Holland and the main campus in down town Grand Rapids so be careful when choosing classes because one might be in another town. The school is making more classes available to the lake shore students.
Bang for the buck Cheap classes as compared to 4 year schools. Plus books can always be sold to a shop in down town Grand Rapids if the school store doesn't want your book back.
What to do for fun Join a club and hopefully it doesn't run in with classes. Go enjoy down town life.
Food and Dining School food is great and always filling. Another up side is that down town Grand Rapids is just outside the building and many small cafes and hot spots are within walking distance. But just remember to time traffic and the fact that you have to walk since cars equal parking garages.
Dorm Life Um there is no dorm life. Community school means everyone is from everywhere and travels daily.
Academic Rigor Classes are not too hard as long as you put in the work. Teachers are very intune with students so no crazy bars are set that cause one to fail. Just remember every teacher is different.
Tips for prospective students Get that aid work/ paper work in asap. The sooner it is in the system the easier your year can start. Please do not wait to the last minute. The aid office line is always long and no one has time to sit and wait.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been a few scares on campus in the past few years, but overall it is a safe campus.
Bang for the buck Classes are easy to pay for out of pocket at 98$ a credit hour. A good school to take basic classes at.
Food and Dining The Winchester is staffed by culinary students and has decent food, other than that, the cafes and cafeteria on campus serves unhealthy, expensive food.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on campus, being a community college.
Academic Rigor Classes are relatively easy.
In three sentences A small community college located in the heart of downtown. GRCC offers a decent amount of classes, but nothing too specific in any one field. Good for its culinary and certificate programs, acceptable for students looking to transfer to a four year university.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Non-traditional,full-time employees, don't have a lot of money, have families. Don't expect to fit in if you're an average/traditional student.
Bang for the buck If you don't have a lot of money or just want to save money GRCC is a good option.
What to do for fun There isn't much to do here. Most people just go to class and leave afterwards. A few do sports(basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, softball and volleyball). A couple times a year there are events, like before exams. There are a few clubs too.
Food and Dining I haven't been to all the restaurants on campus, but what I have had was delicious. You must go to the Quiet Cafe! It's great, healthy too.
Dorm Life There are no dorms. It is a commuter college.
Academic Rigor It's pretty much what you would expect from a community college. Some classes are surprisingly hard and take a lot of work though.
Tips for prospective students If you know you are going to transfer to a 4 year college later make sure you are taking the right classes for your degree; don't JUST take whatever you want. Also, get a associate in arts with MACRAO. It'll make transferring easier.

Dorm Life I live at home to save more money. It is worth it, everyone wants the college experience. But you have the rest of your life for that. It is better to save money, pay for college without taking out loans. So when you go out into the real world you are financially stable with no loans.
Academic Rigor I have been challenged academically and feel well prepared to go into the field on Nursing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It's certainly changed with all of that crime one block over, but other than homeless people peeing in the ramp, there aren't too many things that actually touch campus itself.
Greek Life none
Clubs and Activities While we do have clubs, you're not going to find too many, and the ones that are available don't have too many funds allocated to them.
Great for these types of students Students that are unsure about career paths.
Bang for the buck Professors here usually are adjunct and teach the same thing at the other colleges that people will transfer into, but for less.
What to do for fun While there are lots of opportunities for fun outside of campus, you're better off just studying since there aren't many things on campus.
Food and Dining Bring food from home, when the eats are open in the Student Life building they are expensive, and you're better off not eating at Winchester Alley.
Dorm Life No dormitories.
Academic Rigor Depends on the professor, but for the most part classes have up to six hours of homework daily. Unless you're studying for a scrub career.
Tips for prospective students Don't talk during lectures, or someone will most likely punch your teeth to the back of your throat. Write down everything the teacher writes up on the board. Treat professors with respect, especially here since most of them have connections. Take your studies seriously

Categories Comments What to do for fun Treat all of downtown like it's your college campus...stroll the streets, wander by the river, check out the art galleries, listen in on live music, attend a concert, catch a show, go ice skating at Rosa Parks Circle, stop in a coffee shop!...there are many to choose from!
Food and Dining There are a few options on campus, but set in the heart of downtown GR, GRCC is near so many fantastic off-campus places to eat!...check them out!
Academic Rigor General classes are not difficult. If you do the work, you'll get good grades. GRCC definitely offers more difficult classes though...particularly in some of their degree-seeking programs.
Tips for prospective students If you intend to transfer to another college or university, compare which classes transfer ahead of time to make sure that you'll get credit.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have felt very safe at GRCC. They have emergency call buttons all over campus in case of an emergency.
Clubs and Activities GRCC has many different clubs for each type of person.
Great for these types of students I would say that GRCC is great for students who really don't know what they want to do as their career. It allows them the explore different options with out the costly tuition of a four year college.
Bang for the buck I believe that GRCC is a great way to start of your college career. It is super cheap and allows you time to ease into the college experience without taking all your money.
What to do for fun GRCC provides many different clubs that students can join and meet new people. However, there really is not much to do on campus. The first week of school they provide different activities around campus such as blow up toys and food stands.
Food and Dining At GRCC, they provide three main dining areas. They have a cafeteria called the Raider Grille that very much resembles a high school cafeteria. The food there is good but everything you would've had in a high school cafeteria. The next place they have is the Quiet Cafe. The Quiet Cafe is a small little place that provides a comfortable atmosphere. Most of the time you will find students studying over a cup of coffee. The food there is very good and contains most food you would find at a deli. The last place GRCC has is a food court. The food court contains a Subway and a little Mexican food stand. The food court is always busy and full of students interacting with each other.
Dorm Life Grand Rapids Community College does not have housing.
Academic Rigor I have spent almost two years at Grand Rapids Community College and I believe that most of the professors are laid back. However, I have had a couple of professors that are very rigorous. It ultimately depends on the professors you have. Overall, I would say that GRCC is not considered too rigorous.
Tips for prospective students I would advise that future students talk to an adviser before picking what classes to take. Therefore they can help you plan out what classes you can take that will transfer over to school you plan on going to after GRCC.
In three sentences Grand Rapids Community College is a great way to start off your college experience. It is smaller than four year universities making it more personal. However, it is a diverse school, allowing for opportunities to meet new people.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Being in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids there are several restaurants at various price ranges to fill any craving you could possibly have!
Dorm Life Since its a Community College there is no real dorm life. There are several apartments for rent nearby, but good luck finding something cheap and satisfactory. Opting for commuting is never a bad idea!
Academic Rigor It depends from course to course, but some classes are a breeze, even when taken online. Although, all of the professors make it clear they're there to help you in anyway they can. Knowing that, always lifts a stress off of my shoulders.
Tips for prospective students Make sure when you set an intended program, especially if you plan on transferring that your counselor knows the same information about the transfer and program that you do. Don't end up taking classes you don't need, or not being able to take classes you do need before your intended transfer.
In three sentences A great community college, but if you run into a road block or complication the administration gets tricky. Overall, the college offers a huge variety of classes at several different campuses, which makes commuting easy!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is filled with security. I never feel threatened or unsafe until it gets darker. But you have the option to ask for a security escort to your car if you don't feel safe walking alone.
Greek Life There is not any Greek life at GRCC.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs at GRCC but you have to search vigorously to find the one that is right for you.
Great for these types of students Grand Rapids community college is great for students who want to save their money and live at home. It is also great for adults returning back to school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Being downtown Grand Rapids, students have the option to explore the city on their breaks. There is entertainment, food and so much more downtown Grand Rapids.
Bang for the buck Although the tuition is much cheaper than large universities, the tuition is still more expensive than other community colleges.
What to do for fun I have yet to find anything fun to do at GRCC. I am not in any clubs or sports events though so I find it difficult to participate in fun activities with fellow students. Unlike big universities, the school doesn't force students to band together and make friends.
Food and Dining The raider grille is very popular but the food is neither healthy or cheap. I seem to get a stomach ache after consuming the greasy food sold in there. The quiet cafe offers healthier food but it is also not cheap.
Dorm Life There are no dorms in campus which makes it difficult to experience the student life of college. Students do have the option to live off campus but I have found the cost of living downtown is very expensive.
Academic Rigor I have found that this all depends on the class and the professor. Most of the professors are very understanding with the busy schedules students have. Other times I have run into a few professors who acted as if their class was the only one that mattered.
Tips for prospective students If you are looking for the traditional college experience you won't find it here. That being said, you can join clubs to meet new people or join a sports team.
In three sentences Grand Rapids Community College is a good school to attend when you need credits but also need to save money. The professors are very intelligent and understanding. The campus is organized and it is easy to find your way around.

Categories Comments Campus Safety As I said before, be careful. Always be aware of your surroundings and your belongings. Go to class assuming even the nicest person could harm you or steal from you. The school isn't too dangerous, but there are a lot of incidents that occur on campus, many that they don't report on their emergency response system. Better safe than sorry.
Bang for the buck Their credits are pretty transfer-friendly, along with being cheap. They teamed up with different colleges like Davenport, where if you take certain courses there for three years, you can go to Davenport for one and get your bachelor's from Davenport. If you know what you want to do or not, GRCC MIGHT be a great starter school for you. You save money while getting all of your basic credits. Just make sure those credits transfer to the school you want completely, before you pay for them.
What to do for fun Hang out in the Bostwick Commons, Student Life does a pretty good job at having different fun events on campus.
Food and Dining There's a Subway and another restaraunt in the Bostwick Commons. The Quiet Cafe is pretty expensive, I wouldn't waste my time there. Many of the restaraunts on campus have meals prepared by the culinary students, and the culinary school is one of the best in the nation. So maybe that's why it's so expensive. I've never had their food, but it may certainly be worth it! There is also a cafeteria.
Academic Rigor There are many amazing instructors at this school with amazing credentials. This is a community college, but take it seriously and it will pay off.
Tips for prospective students Always watch your back, and your belongings. Campus police is present, but they certainly aren't great.

Bang for the buck Best Financial college choice you could make.
What to do for fun Art Prize, a world renowned art festival occurs in Grand Rapids every fall. It is a must-see for any person even somewhat interested in art. Grand Rapids Community College works hard on making a Community college feel more like a tight knit college by various activities throughout the year.
Food and Dining Grand Rapids has some great restaurants that I would recommend. Yesterdog is a world famous hot dog restaurant open late, and very popular with college aged students. There are many great bars and restaurants in the area.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at GRCC, but there are many apartments and beautiful rentable houses in Grand Rapids close to GRCC.
Academic Rigor Some classes are hard, but the professors care, and will do a lot to help out, and to make sure the class is do-able, even with a busy work schedule

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students If you are going to attend GRCC you will be way better off if you live in Grand Rapids for class selection and also its about 250.00 more per class if you don't.
In three sentences Seems to very disorganized thus far, they don't offer a good selection of classes or times at their lakeshore campus. I have not been happy with their financial aid office or academic advisor at all!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been a couple incidents of violence on the campus in the few years I have attended community college. The campus is very proactive in safety and reminding students to not walk to their cars alone at night and offer assistance all hours the campus is open and an officer will walk you to your vehicle.
Bang for the buck Grand Rapids Community College offers many classes that will transfer to larger universities credit for credit, and the best part is that your paying sometimes as low as 1/5 what you would for that class at the larger university.
What to do for fun Grand Rapids Community College is located right down town Grand Rapids where there is an array of things to do such as Art Prize. The campus also has many different clubs and organizations that you can get involved in.
Food and Dining While the food has improved at GRCC I still think there is room for improvement.
Dorm Life I have not personally ever lived in a drom while with GRCC, however I have had a couple classmates who have roomed together there and have had a positive experience.
Academic Rigor Community College offers the same academic rigor as a university and it takes time and dedication in your studies for success!
Tips for prospective students Come into this college setting as you would any other university. Too often I have witnessed young students coming to community college thinking it was going to be easier course work than they would find at a university and this is far from the truth. Be ready to work, and communicate your needs as necessary, Get involved with other students, form study groups and prepare for a great education!
In three sentences Grand Rapids Community College has been an excellent learning experience for the most part during my college career. The environment for learning is very diverse and the staff work hard for student success. The campus also offers many opportunities for students who may be struggling through tutoring or lab settings.

Food and Dining Basic cafeteria style food.
Dorm Life No dorms available.
Academic Rigor It is not very challenging unless you are not the best at the subject to begin with.
Tips for prospective students Ask about the best professors. Also do not expect the online classes to be easy. Register for classes early or no classes will be open.
In three sentences It is smart way to save money on the first years of college. It is not very difficult if you put the time in. Most of the Professors are knowledgeable.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Downtown is always full of live, happy people. There are many restaurants that you can eat at. They have almost anything that you could think of in the area.
Dorm Life GRCC offers some off campus living, but they do not pay for it. The area that GRCC is located is a real nice, quiet area to live. I would love to live in the area.
Tips for prospective students Do not procrastinate on filling out scholarships or trying to get financial aid. There are so many scholarships out there that nobody ever see's or applies for. Who doesn't want free money?
In three sentences Grand Rapids Community College is a really good place to start out your college career at. The staff and students there are nice, caring, and just want to see you succeed. I would high recommend going there.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Muggings, bank robberies...campus police are always close by, and keep students up to date.
Clubs and Activities A few good spots around campus in downtown GR. The Intersection is fairly close.
Great for these types of students Looking to save money, wants to stay home for an extra year or so, not looking for a stereotypical college experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Not many... small campus. In the middle of Medical Mile in downtown GR
Bang for the buck only A thousand or so depending on the course-load (per semester)
What to do for fun Sporting events? Basketball and baseball is pretty much all the school has to offer.
Food and Dining You have Subway, Raider Grille, the Quiet Cafe, and then a hospital cafeteria across the street.
Dorm Life No dorms. Very little student activities (football program has been discontinued)
Academic Rigor As expected with any college, you get the grade that you work for.
Tips for prospective students Excellent school to go to to save money, however, realize that this school is home to a large student body; parking is troublesome, classes get snatched quickly, and waiting lists to get into majors (i.e. nursing programs) are at least 2 years.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Being in the middle of a decent sized city, you always have to be careful about being out late by yourself. Luckily, all you have to do is call security and you can get an escort to your car or to your next class. During the day, campus is about as safe as being anywhere.
Great for these types of students Great for students who need to work full-time and want to complete a degree to advance in their already established career, or for first year students who have no real direction.
Bang for the buck I received my Associate's degree from GRCC. I only have $4000 in debt and I only took that loan out for living expenses. As far as tuition is concerned, mine was completely covered by state and federal funding, and for that and the cheapness at GRCC I will forever be appreciative. I feel like I learned more about life and about my major in four years at GRCC than I would have if I had spent two years living in a dorm at a traditional university. My professors at GRCC were so great (most of the time) and I could really tell that they wanted you to learn from them. I will never regret my decision to attend Grand Rapids Community College.
What to do for fun The best part of GRCC is that you don't have to stay on campus. You have the entire city of Grand Rapids at your disposal. There are museums and restaurants, cafes and carriage rides. The city is yours and you don't have to walk very far and you are in the heart of downtown GR.
Food and Dining The Quiet Cafe was an everyday occurance for me. It was like going to a coffee shop downtown, only on campus. Not only is the QC fantastic, but there is Art & Bev's run by the Culinary Arts students which was a more quality option than the Raider Grill (the RG is cheap, but it still has it's merit). The Heritage was the place to go if you wanted a fine dining experience for a reasonable price, the best the culinary program had to offer, very classy and the best quality food and drink, good for an on campus date!
Academic Rigor Depending on your professor, you will be challenged. A lot of professors may forget that you are taking more than their class and will load on the homework, so be sure you can handle the coursework when you sign up.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of your guidance counselors here. They are an extremely invaluable resource when transitioning into GRCC and transitioning into a four year college.
In three sentences Grand Rapids Comm. College is an extremely good starter school, or even a good technical school depending on what your major is. It is an inexpensive option for transfer students and a good place for traditional students to get cheap credits. I would continue to go to GRCC if they offered a BA in my field.

Clubs and Activities Intramural sports, clubs, organizations, sports. Could be easier to locate on website.
Great for these types of students Full-time and living at home, part-time independent students, non-traditional students, freshmen fresh out of high school, returning college students, and transfer students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus N /A
Bang for the buck You easily get more bang for your buck from the experiences that you gain from being at GRCC, which further proves that GRCC is a college plenty should consider stopping at first before going to other colleges and universities.
What to do for fun Tons of organizations, intramural sports, clubs, or just meeting up with people in the downtown area just seconds away from campus.
Food and Dining Plenty of choices on campus for food, and plenty of choices nearby. Also, plenty of people in the dining area at a time to be able to meet new people easier or to relax and study.
Dorm Life Even though its a community college, it would benefit with some off-campus housing deals for those that have to be part-time students.
Academic Rigor Depending on the class and the instructor, you can learn plenty or you can be challenges and learn plenty.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to work, keep your mind focused on completing the homework, and don't forget to become involved in on campus activities, but not to lose focus on achieving goals.
In three sentences Grand Rapids Community College is a diamond in the rough. Where most people would write off Grand Rapids Community College because it's a community college, I implore those people to make a double take to go beneath the cover to see the chapters inside this best seller book. Grand Rapids Community College, or GRCC, is a inexpensive place where individuals can go to fine tune their GPA, take an inexpensive route to acquire prerequisite credits, attend a nationally accredited college and gain a two-year diploma, or all the above and prepare to transfer to a four-year university.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck For tutition, GRCC is a great place to go because it is a very reasonable price for a college these days. Though, the food, as mentioned, does run a little too high for those watching their pennies.
What to do for fun Unfortunately, GRCC seems to not have many activities open to the students. There are the computer labs and the swimming pool, but the main thing to do is just get together with a group of friends and hang out.
Food and Dining The Quiet Cafe to the Raider Grill to Subway to the restaurants downtown. They have quite the option to chose from. Though a warning to those short on money, on campus food is not cheap.
Dorm Life GRCC does not provide dorms to the students
Academic Rigor The general education classes are not too challenging, but when you start getting into classes for your major they start laying down many projects and reports that will have you overwhelmed throughout the semester. However, it is no UofM.
Tips for prospective students Do the work and show up. People mistake a community college to be comparable to high school, but it is not. It is a new jump up from the high school status and your future depends on it.
In three sentences GRCC is a wonderful community college to attend, especially for those who are first time college students in the family. I was so extremely worried my senior year of high school that I would not be able to handle the college experience, however, GRCC pulled me through. With the great teaching staff and maneuverable campus everything went swiftly and smoothly for my first year.

Food and Dining The cafeteria serves great food, and is perfect when you're hungry between classes.
Dorm Life I do not know as I live off campus.
Academic Rigor You will learn a lot of beneficial information. Don't listen to people who say it's just community college. The classes are only easy if you put in time and effort to meet the goals you desire.
Tips for prospective students I highly suggest taking your pre-requisite classes here at GRCC. You will save yourself a ton of money rather than taking them at a University. Also, look for your books online and not from the bookstore. Sometimes it can be a lot cheaper that way.
In three sentences GRCC is a great school for all students, whether pursuing an associate degree or just saving money by getting their pre-requisites. As a returning student, I feel comfortable with the small campus and friendly environment. The classrooms are great learning environments.

Categories Comments Campus Safety grcc does have its own campus police. through this system. students can take school through the criminal justice dept. then get experience with the campus police.
Greek Life some fraternities and sororities do exist. they are minimal are are usually run out of the houses uptown near the school.
Clubs and Activities grcc does have intramural sports and tournaments of various kinds. also depending on the major the school offers contest for artist, photographers, and marketers.
Great for these types of students grcc is aimed for business majors, nurses, artists, and engineers. they have many more majors and general educational classes. but those majors get the most attention.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus they play films outside the school so those driving by in their cars and/or walking by can stop and enjoy a film for a bit.
Bang for the buck the tuition for grcc is cheaper than pretty much any other school around. you can save thousands by just going for a semester.
What to do for fun art prize once a year is an incredible experience. going to one of b.o.b.'s five restaurants. and during the colder months go and see the grand rapids griffins take the ice.
Food and Dining the school is located in the thriving downtown of grand rapids, so finding great eats, and quality entertainment is just down the street.
Dorm Life the houses downtown are actually quite nice and are located conveniently up the hill from the city so there is no need for a car. also many can live in one house, with cheap mid-west rent. you can't lose.
Academic Rigor being a community college it gets a bed reputation for being sub-par academically, when in all seriousness it is quite difficult and stimulating.
Tips for prospective students for those looking to the future, grcc does have 4 year programs, but i would recommend transferring after freshman or sophomore year. the internship and study abroad programs are excellent. especially the italy and greece trip.
In three sentences grcc is great for those coming straight out of high school. i enjoyed the art dept. immensely and would recommend it to anyone. those looking to transfer to a state or private school should look no further than grcc.

Food and Dining the food on campus is excellent. wide range of options and even a quiet cafe where you can eat and do class work in a quiet environment. the raider cafe is a must try at least once. fairly inexpensive and large servings
Dorm Life i am not sure because i live within 10 minutes of downtown so i am still with my parents

Bang for the buck great prices!!!
What to do for fun join a club... i recommend christian fellowship. in grand rapids, they have swing dancing every tuesday night. also in rosa parks circle is ice skating for $1.
Food and Dining we have subway, and a few other places: the raider grille and quiet cafe. however, grcc is well known for its culinary program, so any event has five star food! grcc is right downtown, so just a block or two away can be found just about any kind of food! i ate tai today :).
Dorm Life grcc doesn't have dorms haha... this means you get to live at home! which, in turn means you get free food, and free laundry machines, and so much more. do not take your mother for granted!!!
Academic Rigor grcc is a community college, and offers classes beginning with teaching students to add and subtract numbers and going all the way up to differential equations (that comes after calculus iii). the more challenging classes are just as rigorous as a class found at a large university, but the professors are much more accessible.
Tips for prospective students get involved. there are all sorts of activities and clubs. if you don't know what's going on, take a bathroom break because there is always a list of activities in the stall street journal. explore. in each building, there are study rooms and socializing areas; investigate and find a place that works for you. the library is really great too! also, take advantage of free stuff, especially during welcome week!
In three sentences grand rapids community college has great professors who are willing to help; there are about four different tutor labs free to students with professional tutors. it's very inexpensive, and a great place to take some classes. i've met students who are just getting started, students who are finishing up, and students who are coming back to school.

Greek Life i know nothing of greek life on campus
Clubs and Activities i am not into clubs and activities; however, i believe there are many activities (four public museums, including the gerald ford presidential museum.
Great for these types of students any student who wants to test the watter, or have greater access to professors. tutoring is also available for those who request it,
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus as i stated earlier, grcc is located in the heart of a historic district. if you like architecture or are simply looking for a unique place to call home, the historic district offers many options and price ranges.
Bang for the buck in state tuition is quite low. the costs of classes and books has always been covered by pell grants.
What to do for fun discounts for academically and locally sponsored plays and musicals. very large public library is a perfect place to study. in spring and summer months grand rapids is 30 minutes from beautiful lake michigan and many public and private beaches. for glbtq students will enjoy the proximity to saugatuck, a gay haven.
Food and Dining you are on your own. vending machines are everywhere. there are several cafes on campus and many more private establishments in the thriving entertainment district, which is within walking distance.
Dorm Life grand rapids community college does not have dorms; however, located in the heart of a historic district, finding lodging is easy in the large older homes which have been broken into multiple units. many are loaded with character.
Academic Rigor grand rapids community college is a real institution of higher learning. do not treat this college experience as a warm up for the following two or more years at a university. one great difference is that instructors are more available to students. treat them as a resource, and ask for assistance when needed before it becomes crucial.
Tips for prospective students threat this as a real school of higher learning. statistics have shown that those students who apply themselves at a two year college have higher grades than those who started their college career at a four year institution.
In three sentences grand rapids community college is and open enrollment school. tuition is reasonably priced. class size is generally small, allowing for more personalized attention from instructors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students GRCC is great for students who are not sure what they want their major to be, or even if they do- it's a great place to test out if that major is best for you! Going into GRCC I was a psychology major, and I am leaving a Family Studies major!
Tips for prospective students Write, Write WRITE! Writing is a big part of any college, but before you attend GRCC, see if you can beef up your writings skills for those papers you will inevitably have to write (especially since English 101 and 102 are required!)
Bang for the buck I couldn't find a better price anywhere!
Am enjoying being here There are many programs for all sorts of students! You can go to transfer fairs, they have an anime club, and many student activities that you can participate in year-round!
Am learning a lot Grand Rapids Community College has given me a more worldly view, and opened my mind to the thoughts of the world. In all my classes, I learn something new- and not just what to put on the exam, but knowledge I will use to better myself.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students planning to transfer, non-traditional returning students, English as a second language students, those who need one-on-one attention, and those who need financial aid.
Tips for prospective students Get to the parking ramps at least an hour early because they fill up quickly, especially around noon. Don't be afraid to ask questions, or get frustrated if you get lost. Chances are you won't get lost, though, because it's a small school. If you're running late or won't make it to class, call/email your teachers. They're usually very lenient and will let you make up work you missed if you notify them before class, even if they don't check their messages until after class.
Bang for the buck Classes are very cheap, but you learn a lot. Books are also cheap, especially when you rent them. There is also another bookstore in town that you can rent books from besides the school store. Parking in the ramps is one very low cost with your school ID even if you're there all day.
Am enjoying being here The faculty are extremely helpful, it's a small school focusing on one-on-one attention, there are many helpful resources, and it seems to be a very safe place to learn. Since it's downtown, there are many places to eat or hang out in between classes that you could easily get to by walking or by riding your bike if you have one so you don't have to waste gas money or pay for parking twice.
Am learning a lot The teachers here are highly knowledgeable about the subjects they teach. They do a great job at making the curriculum clear, answer any questions you may have, and most will help you if they notice you seem to be frustrated or not doing well.

Tips for prospective students As long as you take good notes and study hard for each class and do your homework, there is no way you cant make it. Success is key to your motivation. Focus on each course and figure out what each professor wants on an exam or essay and you will fit right in.
Bang for the buck I am just starting my third year and on my last semester for my associates degree. GRCC is less than half the cost of a major universities tuition and you feel like you can really talk to your professors. I have learned so much from Biology, Art, English, etc that I am now seeing light from new studies and changing my major. I'm glad I figured out I want to do something else here then when I spend thousands at a major university.
Am enjoying being here I love that this school is downtown Grand Rapids. There are many choices for food that you can either walk to or on campus they have Subway and the Raider grill which give you multiple things to chose from. Also the diversity here is awesome; many groups that you can join, many people you can meet. And being right in the middle of downtown means you basically cant miss art-prize. some classes will even put this into their lecture some how. Makes learning fun.
Am learning a lot Starting out at a community college has really got me going for the long haul. The professors are very helpful. There are also tutoring sessions for your harder classes and study groups for free on campus. Because classes are smaller in a community college you can really get a feel for college before you jump into the deep waters of a major university.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students have a plan for parking. during peak times you need an insane amount of luck and time to get into the parking ramp. being downtown is a major disadvantage as far as parking goes.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students If you are fresh out of high school you will feel right at home. If you are a returning nontraditional student get tutoring if you need it.
Bang for the buck Most definitely a good cheap idea is community college anytime here its no different don't waste your money going to a 4 year institution save it by going here.
Am enjoying being here Many opportunities await you at this school they accept everyone who applies and are willing to help you better yourself. I tutor math as a part time job and see much diversity.
Am learning a lot I found this school to be nice and close buy if you live in the Rockford area and so much cheaper than a 4 year university. The education is quality too. I am learning at 1/16 the cost

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those who intend to transfer, Those with a full-time day or night job, Those coming back to earn a degree after being out of school for many years, Those seeking an Associates or 2-year degree, Those who can't pay for a larger school.
Tips for prospective students Branch out and try to meet and get to know people. Or get involved in a campus club or organization to meet some knew people. And make connections with those who sit near you in class and your professors. Learning is much more enjoyable when you have someone to do it with and when you actually feel a connection to those around you on campus. You feel a sense of pride in your school when you make such connections and you could make a lifelong friend.
Bang for the buck GRCC is a very inexpensive school which opens a lot of opportunities. It allows you to take inexpensive classes to help you discover your interests and potential career choices if you're undecided. It is also an excellent school for transfer students because you can take a lot of basic undergraduate classes that will transfer easily to larger schools at a much cheaper price. The small, intimate class sizes are great for those who have difficulty learning or who need extra help because you actually get face time with your professor and they get to know you one on one. And they also offer classes in many locations in the Kent County area such as at local highschools so that students who commute do not have to go as far to attend classes. And they have a very flexible scedule with many night and weekend classes offered for those students who have a full time job during the day. Great price for all the class options offered and the education you recieve.
Am enjoying being here The campus is small and fairly contained in Downtown Grand Rapids which means there are great places to eat and many things to see in between classes. Because there are no dorms and no one lives on campus it does make it a bit more difficult to connect with fellow students. And many students are non-traditional who are older and are coming back to school to earn a degree or who have taken a few years off to work and figure things out in between high school and college. There are campus activities and fun things that many clubs and campus groups organize, however there are usually few who attend because they have to commute to the campus and they aren't during regular class times. The education and learning environment is great but you have to go out of your way to get to know new people and forge friendships which can make the college feel a bit lonely when actually you are surrounded by many people.
Am learning a lot I am learning a fair amount in my classes. My professors are engaging and passionate about what they do which makes learning much more enjoyable. The class sizes are perfect and you can recieve a lot of individual attention from teachers which helps the learning process. I enrolled in the fall semester right after I graduated from my high school which was one of the best in the area. This meant that I had a lot of my basics down and my classes were pretty easy for me. The classes offered are more tailored to those who did not recieve a good high school education or who have not been students for any number of years. The classes are mostly basic and will prepare anyone well to transfer to another college.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those low on cash. Those who aren't yet sure what they want to do, and don't want to blow a lot of money in classes they aren't sure they need.
Tips for prospective students - Look up your professor when you pick your classes at (http://blog.ratemyprofessors.com/). That way, you at least have an idea of what you're paying for. Professor quality varies greatly, even in the exact same class! Do your research. - Really try and get involved in some sports or activities. Because of the nature of community colleges, it is really easy to fall into a routine of just going to your classes and going home. - Apply for scholarships from the Grand Rapids Community Foundation (http://www.grfoundation.org/). Nearly every friend I have who goes to this school gets at least $1,000 a year from them.
Bang for the buck Once again this comes down to who you pick for your professors and how much work you put in. It costs the same amount for a poor professor as it does for one who knows his/her stuff. Obviously, I would advise you to pick the more difficult professors. Additionally, I would advise that you put effort into really learning the material, as opposed to worrying about the grade. If you put in the time, and you know the material of whatever it is you're studying backwards and frontwards, the grades will come. More importantly however, you will build a firm foundation with which to move up from once you transfer to a different institution.
Am enjoying being here I gave it 3 stars mostly on the basis of it being a community college. Compared to other community colleges I've seen, this place has a lot to offer. There are plenty of student clubs, a plethora of athletic programs, and heck, even Alpha Theta Pi is here. The amount of activities available make it easy to get involved and enjoying yourself along the way. If however, you compare Grand Rapids Community College to any major university, you will find yourself wanting more in terms of student life.
Am learning a lot This is a college that you get out what you put into it. You have a great deal of selection when it comes to choosing your professors. If you want to skate on by and have an easy A, you can do that, but you won't learn much. On the flip-side, you can pick more difficult professors, and get just as good of an education as you would of had from a major university. The choice is yours.

Tips for prospective students To stay focus and keep your grades up because it will help if you want to transfer to a big university!
Bang for the buck I paid everything without taking any loans, and I still got a nice amount of money back in refund.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being at GRCC, I have some friends that go there.
Am learning a lot Yes I am learning a lot, I am learning the material that I will need for myself and the career that I want to go into.

Tips for prospective students Dont come here
Bang for the buck Financial Aid and student loans are easy to apply for and to receive also and with the money you receive paying tuition for classes and other miscellaneous things won't be hard.
Am enjoying being here Not at all, classes are to full and not enough resources. The only good about this school is that my friends are with me
Am learning a lot Not really, the sane teachers you had in high school teach here also, and in some classes professors are meant to teach in elementary not college.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who live in GR, Wyoming, or anywhere close to downtown of GR
Tips for prospective students GRCC to me was a backup if I didn't get the required ACT score needed for the bigger colleges, so I recommend to obtain an ACT score of at least a 26 to get scholarships of course. If you're planning to go to GRCC, plan ahead in your mind that college is a whole other playing field of difficulty to pass the classes with an A because the high school habits may still linger on you so shake them off especially if you're a procrastinator...DON'T SLACK OFF on your classwork, you're paying for your classes; one chance to get A's. Otherwise it'll be trial and error until you learn to do better in your classes the first time around.
Bang for the buck extremely cheap tuition compare a rough estimate of $1200 in GRCC to a $18000 in a big university. WOW better go to GRCC to take care of those required classes for transfering, or if you're looking for a assoicate or bachalors degree, that's fine as well.
Am enjoying being here Close to my home, nice, friendly community, professional staff that'll help anyone in need, love the food here, look up Heritage Restaurant it has awesome food if you can the money to pay for it. if only have around 5-10 bucks you can always go to the cafe, or Raider Grill.
Am learning a lot Don't be embarrassed that probably one of your friends is going to a big university like Michigan State, Western Michigan, or UofM because in GRCC you'll still learn plenty of material required to transfer to your top choice of college. A big plus is classes are around 15 to 30 people not like 50 to 100 in a classroom in Michigan State, that's crazy how are you gonna pass that class with an A if you're only a student number in their attendance than rather be treated as a human being here in GRCC in one on one talks with the professor if you need help because they'll be glad to help you out to understand the class material better.
