    Campus Safety

I have NEVER felt unsafe on campus. Campus is also small so walking from one corner of campus to the other only takes about 5 minutes. There are also security on duty at all times. (I've only ever needed their assistance for car issues and they were more than happy to help.)

    Greek Life

There are no Fraternities or Sororities on campus. We do however have several honors societies including Alpha Lambda Delta, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi.

    Clubs and Activities

It is easy for any students who are interested in becoming involved on campus to find a group that they will enjoy. Leadership opportunities can be found around every corner.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of events hosted on campus including anything from movie nights to intramural sports. But on the off chance that there isn't anything you would enjoy attending that evening on campus, Fontbonne students are conveniently located around all sorts of St. Louis attractions. My friends and I LOVE to go the Loop! We are also close to the St. Louis Galleria, The Zoo, Forest Park, Art Hill, and Escape Rooms.

    Food and Dining

There is always a dining option available on campus. Although I prefer the home-style cooking from Ryan Dining Hall (which is also buffet style), I don't mind going to the Griffin Grill for my on-the-go wraps, quesadillas, burgers, or salads.

    Dorm Life

I lived on campus my freshmen year and LOVED the experience. I experienced independence and had fun while making friends who I now live with off campus. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

    Academic Rigor

Here at Fontbonne, professors make their expectations of their students clear. As a student who has taken courses both in and out of my department, I have come to understand that professors have their own styles of teaching that suit the topic of the course. Still, even the most challenging professors make time to help and answer questions.

    Tips for prospective students

Fontbonne University IS the place for you if: you want to attend a small university, want to know your professors well, and enjoy being a part of student organizations. Fontbonne University IS NOT the place for you if: you want to attend a large university or Fraternity/Sorority Opportunities are important to you.

    In three sentences

Fontbonne University is the perfect place for students looking for a small, hands-on community, where you work closely with Faculty and Staff to ensure your academic and overall success in the future. I know all my professors very well and they are always willing to set aside time to help or answer any questions I have. There are a TON of ways to get involved in student life organizations, which is a great way to make friends and build your resume.

    What to do for fun

Fontbonne is in the heart of St. Louis, being only minutes away from the Delmar Loop, St. Louis Zoo, Ice Skating, and so much more. There are always events held on campus, and organizations to get actively involved in.

    Food and Dining

Fontbonne has two dining options, which are the Griffin Grill and Ryan Dining Hall, both of which have amazing food. The Griffin Grill is grab and go style while Ryan Dining Hall is buffet style. These are both very accommodating options for students that commute and live on Fontbonne's campus.

    Dorm Life

Fontbonne has three different types of residential life, including: St. Joseph Hall (freshman dorms), Medaille Hall (suite style), and Southwest Hall (apartment living). This is a great way to meet your peers and get involved on Fontbonne's campus while being only five minutes from your classes.

    Academic Rigor

Fontbonne's staff to student ratio is amazing. Each professor challenges students, and makes them feel more than just a number on campus. I feel that each of my professors push me to do my absolute best and always provide additional help when needed in my coursework.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're wanting the small campus feel, then Fontbonne is the university for you. While close to so many St. Louis attractions, it is still a peaceful and fairly quiet campus to be on.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is good and there are a variety of options for everyone on campus. We have two places on campus to grab food and one is a sit down more home style meals while the other is grab and go food. I like to eat at both of the places on campus and it really depends on my schedule which place I go and pick food from.

    Dorm Life

I have absolutely loved the experiences that I have had while living on campus since I was a freshmen. Freshmen year I lived in the freshmen building and meet some of my best friends. I always had my door open and meet so many people in my freshmen class. Since then I have moved to the other dorm and still talk to so many people on campus and continue to meet more people. I love meeting people and talking to them and I think living on campus has helped me accomplish all of this.

    Academic Rigor

I love all of the classes that I have taken for my major since I started here in 2016. I think that all of the professors are so personable and love to help you as much as they can. My major classes for Special Education and Elementary Education have helped prepare me for the real world. I love the small class sizes and actually having the opportunity to work one-on-one with the faculty and staff here. I am beyond prepared for going out and working in the field of education.

I have always felt safe on campus and I can't say that for most college campuses.

    Bang for the buck

The big selling point for Fontbonne is that most students and faculty are personable, friendly, and helpful. For example, we have nuns that are around school and one of them ( sister Linda) rides around on the scooter and gives chocolate and snack to faculty and students. :) . She is kinda like everyone grandma

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many organizations on campus that will welcome you with open arms. From athletics-centered to academic-center to cultural-centered. There is something for everyone on Fontbonne's campus! Sporting events, on and off campus movies and trips, concerts, cultural celebrations, dances, etc.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One tradition that I love that Fontbonne University does each year is that as freshmen enter into their college journey they take part in the Catch the Fire ceremony. During the ceremony, students and families learn about the history of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet who founded our school. The incoming students are called up one at a time to light their candles that they are given beforehand from the main fire that illuminates the space. This fire is supposed to guide/motivate/remind them about what the CSJs fought for and stood for as they continue their educational journey. Afterwards, the students ring the bell to signal their entrance into the Fontbonne community. To come full circle, during the Sending Ceremony before graduation the graduating students ring the bell once more to signal the full circle of their journey as they step into the rest of their lives.

    Bang for the buck

There are lots of opportunities to apply and receive scholarships!

    What to do for fun

There are lots of opportunities on campus - movies in the meadow, comedians come, musicians put on concerts. Around campus there is the Science Center, the STL Zoo, City Museum, Forest Park, Delmar Loop, Busch Stadium.

    Food and Dining

Always try everything at least once. You will definitely favor certain items over others. Personally, I appreciate their quesadillas, royal cheeseburgers, grilled chicken wraps, and their omelets. I do like to shake it up a little and go off campus every once in a while for a midnight snack.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life provides you one of the best opportunities to meet your classmates! I remember my freshman year, I kept my door open. A lot of the people on my floor did when they were in their rooms come to think of it. That's how I met several of my closest friends! Dorm life provides you the opportunity to experience independent living away from home but not fully to prep you for complete living on your own later on in college or after graduation.

    Academic Rigor

With small class sizes, the teacher to student ration is small. As a result, the teachers here at Fontbonne strive to know you as not only a student but as a person. They support and guide you during your academic journey to make sure that you succeed in and out of the classroom. If you put in the effort and time, you will only reap the benefits when it comes to academic.

    Tips for prospective students

Fontbonne has a great campus life with many opportunities to attend events and meet individuals from different backgrounds, beliefs, interests and passions. Take the risk to step out of your comfort zone, if anything your comfort zone will only expand.

    In three sentences

Fontbonne University has become my home away from home. They reach out to you with open arms and help you succeed every inch of the way. Though your time at Fontbonne is a short four years, you will forever be a part of the Fontbonne family resulting in constant support.

    Food and Dining

The food can be hit or miss at times, but that's just like every other college. Recently, we got a new food program and the food here has been amazing.

    Dorm Life

We are currently in the process of designing a new dorm that will definitely be amazing and help Fontbonne grow as a university. You will make a lot of great memories within the dorms, and will build a family you will have for the rest of your life.

    Academic Rigor

You will always be challenged to think critically, but your professors will always be there to help you succeed. Having a student to teacher ratio of about 11:1 definitely makes a huge difference, and is awesome.

    In three sentences

Fontbonne might be a small campus, but you will be surprised by how much there is to do on a constant basis. Your teachers care about your education here and area always willing to go out of their way to help you succeed. The friends you connect with at Fontbonne, will be family for life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many student organizations on campus, so students will have no problem finding one that works for them! Some are related to careers like computer science, speech pathology, or business, while others are related to athletics, campus ministry, academic honors, diversity, and leadership.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Battle of Big Bend is my favorite campus tradition. When our basketball teams play Webster University, all of campus comes out to show their support and school pride!

    What to do for fun

There are so many events held on campus every month, and some student organizations even sponsor events off-campus. Some of my favorite events include the hypnotist, free tickets to the Cardinals game, our annual Snowcoming concert in December, and our Dance Marathon event in April.

    Food and Dining

With two dining options on campus, there is always a good variety of food. Ryan Dining Hall switches up the buffet items every day, and the Griffin Grill is a great place to go for chicken tenders, quesadillas, sandwiches, fries, smoothies, and more!

    Dorm Life

I have lived on campus since my freshman year, and I absolutely love it. St. Joseph's Hall, or "The Joe" as we call it, is a communal style dorm where all the freshman live. This is great because you really get to know your classmates through sharing a bathroom, hanging out in the hallways, and studying in the lobby. Medaille Hall is great as an upperclassmen since you have your own room and are located closer to the center of campus.

    Academic Rigor

Classes at Fontbonne University have challenged me academically in a number of ways. The professors are supportive and helpful. Coursework has challenged me, but has also forced me to think in new and different ways, so it was definitely worth the challenge.

    Campus Safety

Campus security is awesome because of our campus size. There are always 2 security guards on duty, and they complete hourly rounds throughout the campus to ensure campus safety. Also with the size of campus security guards get to know you very well and by name, which is very reassuring as well.

    Greek Life

There are no sororities or fraternities offered on campus, but there are multiple academic honors societies, such as Omicron Delta Kappa, Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Kappa Phi, and many more. Each of these honors organizations listed, and the ones not listed, have their own requirements to achieve member status.

    Clubs and Activities

There are definitely opportunities to get involved with different clubs and activities across all phases of campus. There are academic organizations that are offered to the members of their respective majors, but there are also social organizations that put on various styles events throughout the week and weekend.

Great for these types of students

If you are looking for a smaller school as opposed to a large university, then I definitely recommend coming here for college! We also have awesome cyber security/computer science departments, education departments, and communication disorders (speech pathology and deaf education) departments; so if you're interested in any of those majors, check us out!

    Bang for the buck

Tuition may seem as though it's on the higher side, but Fontbonne offers many scholarships and awards that will help lower the price of tuition.

    What to do for fun

There are multiple events offered on campus throughout the week and weekend, but we are also in the heart of Clayton and St. Louis, MO, which means Blues games, Cardinals games, going to visit the Arch, concerts, etc. are always happening in close proximity to campus!

    Food and Dining

There are only two dining options on campus: one buffet style and the other grab and go, prepared as you order style. The buffet style is open during select hours of the day to prepare for each of the meals, but they are interesting times. The buffet style also changes their menu all of the time and posts it online to view before visiting. The grab and go style is open from 9 am until 10 pm, so there are definitely more opportunities to go and visit. Their menu is the same all of the time, and sometimes they feature specials.

    Dorm Life

I definitely recommend living in the dorms because it helps students to get to know one another, and it provides an ease of mind when transitioning from high school to college. I have met some of my best friends that I know I'll have even after graduating from living on campus for the past four years. I only gave it four stars because the dorms are not new, so there are some things that are outdated and repaired sometimes.

    Academic Rigor

I'm a speech language pathology major, so I had only heard about great things about this program before coming here. In regards to my classes outside of my major, the classes have never been too hard, but just the right amount of organization and dedication is required to keep up with the amount of work required for these classes. Because Fontbonne has such a small campus, teachers that I had my freshman year (currently a senior) still stop and have a quick conversation with me about how everything is going!

    Tips for prospective students

I definitely recommend getting involved in at least one organization on campus, whether that is academic or social, so that you can rely on them during you time here. I have been involved in multiple organizations during my time here, and they have provided me with leadership opportunities that I never expected participating in when I was coming in as a freshman. So if you get involved with at least one, they may offer you more than you even expect.

    In three sentences

Fontbonne University is a small private university in St. Louis, MO. They provide many social and academic opportunities to anyone who is willing to choose these paths. Fontbonne also provides such a small, close-knit community that you get to know so many people across campus that there is always someone that smiles or starts a conversation with you!

Not great options for food, you can either get a sandwich or wrap, or do buffet style in Ryan. Most of the time there's pizza. Much like a high school cafeteria.

There are 2 dining halls and a starbucks. The starbucks was a recent addition and very much liked campus wide. One dining hall is more buffet style and somwthing new every meal while the other is the same menu everyday. The buffet is open at limited times, but the other dining hall is open all day which is convenient, but it can get pretty busy.

    In three sentences

Its a good school if youre looking for something smaller. The bio department is very good and the bio professors are awesome. Id recommend it if big schools are intimidating to you or youre looking for small class sizes.

    Dorm Life

Freshman year is the one major year to live on campus. You know everything that is going on and meet a lot of great people. The dorms themselves could be a little more updated, but other than that theyre not bad. The cost is high, however, especially with the meal plans.

Great for these types of students

Fontbonne seems to be perfect for students aiming for a quiet place to learn and teachers who care about your progress.

    What to do for fun

There are a few events at Fontbonne, but most of the interesting stuff really requires leaving the campus. If you are able to leave campus, however, St. Louis has plenty of interesting things to do.

    Food and Dining

Fontbonne offers a healthy meal option in Ryan Hall, as well as a more fast-food-like meal option at the Griffin Grill. It is pretty easy to find something you like, but sometimes it seems like there are not enough options.

    Dorm Life

I commute, so my opinion on this matter does not have much value. From what I've heard, however, dorm life is pretty simple and much more relaxed than at other schools.

    Academic Rigor

I, personally, have found a lot of the work fairly understandable. Not necessarily easy, but simple if you keep up in class and do the assigned readings. Some other students I know tend to struggle, however. Fontbonne requires classes that may not seem relevant to your chosen major, which can sometimes cause problems for students (ie, at least one of our art-focused majors requires Computer Science I, a class about programming in C).

    Tips for prospective students

Fontbonne requires one religious course (not necessarily Catholic or about any specific religion), but some other classes (for instance, Culture and the Common Good, a class required for every major) may have religious themes. However, so far, no one seems to judge anyone for their religion or lack thereof. For some reason, when I was applying it was rather hard to find this information.

    In three sentences

Fontbonne is a very accepting college. The professors really give individual attention to every student. There are moments when the Catholicism seems a little overbearing to me, but those moments usually don't last very long and do not outweigh the education.

As soon as you step on campus, you feel the sense of community among the students. The obvious close-knit relationships between them give the school the feel of a large high school, only without the drama otherwise involved. A strong, supportive atmosphere that encourages you to become your best self.

Around campus you have many places to go to.For example there are about 3 malls around 15 miles around the campus and there are many places to eat too.

    Food and Dining

The food varies from time to time. One day the best food comes out and everyone is happy. Then the next day the food will be decent but not the greatest.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life at Fontbonne is pretty cool. This university includes co-ed, all boys, and all girls. I've been living in the dorms for 3 weeks now and all I can say is that it's pretty neat.

The academics are challenging, but is worth it for your future in your career.

Sports is one of the main reason students pick Fontbonne as their college of choice. If you're not able to receive a athletic scholarship to your dream college, Fontbonne would be a wonderful back-up.

    In three sentences

Fontbonne University is a college that is underrated because of the other big schools around it. If you live about a week at Fontbonne you will love it. I'm saying this because I was one of those students who question the school lifestyle.

Most teachers are great but every once in a while you run ino those who take their job way too seriously.

    Campus Safety

Fontbonne has a few security guards who have their own office in the parking lot. I will occasionally see them walking around. I have never heard of anything stolen or seen any fights. Overall, it is a very safe campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs for any area you can imagine. Science, math, Teaching, Speech Path, everything!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Fontbonne is big on activities for students of different cultures. Each year we have a fun festival for students from all over the world. They each have their own booth and share information and items from their home country along with free food from those places.

    Bang for the buck

Like all colleges, Fontbonne is a little costly. However, they offer pretty great scholarships which makes it easier to pay for.

    What to do for fun

Fontbonne has activities almost every Friday. They bring in speakers, go bowling, to the movies, have dances, and have sports tournaments. Almost all of these things are free or given a great discount for students.

    Food and Dining

The food at Fontbonne is great! They offer healthy foods with a huge variety in the dining room and fast food in the DSAC of Griffin Grill. Definitely tastes homemade :)

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorms, but I have been up there once. The ones in Medaille hall are not very nice and are very tiny. You do, however, have a bathroom to share with one roommate which is better than community bathrooms. The ones in St. Joseph hall seem much nicer!

    Academic Rigor

Most of my classes are pretty difficult. I like to know that I am learning new things though. Most of the teachers are very helpful and willing to assist you in whatever ways they can.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly recommend making strong connections with your teachers. I also think it is very important to stay on top of academic paperwork such as scholarships, bills, and other student information to make sure the staff is free of errors. Last, I recommend students put 100% into their school work because after all, they are the ones paying for it.

    In three sentences

Fontbonne University is a very small campus, which makes it great for receiving one on one time with instructors. Most of the students who go there are very friendly, and there are activities going on almost every weekend.
