    Campus Safety

The campus is always being watched over my public safety. I have never felt unsafe anywhere on campus or the surrounding areas.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs that offer a lot of very fun activities on campus, including (but not limited to) movie nights, therapy dogs, ice cream socials, tie-dye events, bus trips to NYC and Boston, and much more! For those that are 21, there is a great bar scene in Albany!

    Food and Dining

I am currently a 5th year on campus, and have seen huge improvements in the dining hall since I was a freshmen. The staff in the dining hall are always friendly and willing to accommodate you in whatever way needed.

    Dorm Life

All of the on-campus housing offered by the college is top-notch. The freshmen dorms have air conditioning, personal bathrooms in each room, and laundry free of charge. All of the dorms are located on campus, a short walk from the library or student center. Living on campus was a very positive experience for me!

    Academic Rigor

Classes can be difficult or demanding at times, but ensuring you reach out to the resources available to you (tutoring, academic advisors, professor's office hours) will ensure you are academically successful. Students on campus are also always willing to help each other, creating a very non-competitive attitude (which I really enjoy!)

    Tips for prospective students

ACPHS is definitely academically focused, so ensure you are interested in the health sciences prior to applying. Due to the college's focus, there are not majors that do not include the health sciences.

    In three sentences

ACPHS is an academically focused college with many faculty, professors, and resources available on campus to ensure every student reaches their full potential. The clubs and professional organizations on campus help students feel included, involved, and connected to other students and health care professionals. The campus facilities are well maintained and create a welcoming environment on campus.

    Campus Safety

I never feel unsafe on campus because everywhere you look there is a public safety officer. The residence halls are locked at all times and can only be accessed with a fob programmed to open that specific building. Students only have fob access to the building they live in.

    Clubs and Activities

ACPHS is full of clubs and activities. At the beginning of each semester there is a huge involvement fair so students can see what clubs they would like to be involved in. The week before finals the Campus Activities Programming Board (CAPB) has an event called "snack attack" where they have free food and goodies every night. This is a great even because who doesn't like good food. CAPB also organizes a trip to the NY state fair and many other fun events.

Great for these types of students

ACPHS is a great school for students who truly enjoy learning and are hard workers.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is very diverse and even includes an ice cream and topping bar. There are many customizable options so there is always something for everyone.

    Dorm Life

The dorms at ACPHS are the best I have ever seen. The freshman dorms are spacious and have their own attached bathroom. They even have air conditioning! The sophomore dorms are suite style with single rooms, a living area, kitchen space, and attached bathroom to share with others in the suite. The dorms are comfortable and fairly modern. They make for a positive and comfortable living environment.

    Academic Rigor

Academics at ACPHS are challenging but really prepare you for the future. The professor challenge you to be the best version of yourself and push you to continually improve your work habits. While the classes are challenging the students all help each other and no one is left behind.

    In three sentences

ACPHS is a great college with an even better community of professors and students. The professors truly want you to succeed and are always willing to help a student who asks. Hard work, dedication, and commitment are key to success at our college.

Events often take place in the close by parks. Ice cream at Emacks and Bolios is very popular.

    Campus Safety

I always felt so safe within the campus.

    Food and Dining

I would recommend to get at least the smallest plan when you are not required to get the meal plan. It is great for whenever you don't have time to cook but you are hungry. Black coffee definitely helps if you need caffeine.

    Dorm Life

Every room will have its own bathroom, which is great.

    Academic Rigor

Each year will be challenging but this is worth it. This means that the school is preparing for your future.

    Tips for prospective students

Prepare to be out from your comfort zone. This school definitely wants to help you to be successful no matter what but this will be hard for you in the beginning and will get better in the future. Try to be on top of your course work and do not procrastinate. If you have any questions or concern about your academic work or any other stuffs, do seek your faculty or professor because they will try to help you as much as possible.

    In three sentences

ACPHS is definitely challenging but everyone at this school will help you to go through this challenge. At the end, you will say you have learned a great amount.

    Food and Dining

Food is good, however it does become repetitive.

    Dorm Life

Very large dorm rooms with en suite bathroom.

    Academic Rigor

Very difficult and it only gets harder.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to have a true passion for what you will be doing and make sure that this school is the right fit for you. This school is very pharmacy and health sciences centered and without a passion for such things one will not succeed here.

    In three sentences

I think that the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is the type of college where you can find a home and a strong academic community to support you throughout your years. While the college course work is very difficult and lacks in certain areas of student engagement, there is an effort to connect the members of the community in all programs.

    Campus Safety

Pub safe is always a call away. There are also blue lights that you can press and Pub safe will come right to you. It's not a closed campus but there isn't much on campus that brings the public in, so the people you primarily see are students and faculty.

    Food and Dining

The food here is average. Nothing too special about it. They recently created a vegetarian station that is open every day. There is also the daily press that is like a Starbucks/ Dunkin.

    Dorm Life

Private bathrooms. Yes, you have to stock it and clean it but it's only shared between you and your roommate. Rooms for the first year are normally doubles, so you only have one roommate. In your second year, you do have a larger space. It is suited style with 5-7 people in doubles or singles. Each suite shares a bathroom. The suits also have a common area whereas in the freshman dorm there are common rooms for the floors.

    Academic Rigor

The Academics are difficult, you have to stay on top of them. Time managing is a big part of success but ensuring that you really understand the material. Talking to teachers and tutors to go over any information that is confusing to you. Developing new ways of studying to reinforce material is also crucial to succeeding.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't take classes that won't transfer in. You're going to have to take them anyway once you get to ACP so take your time in high school and explore potentially different classes.

Great for these types of students

A majority of students who attend ACPHS are driven and focuses. However, this environment can turn competitive at times (especially with the small campus size).

    What to do for fun

Fitness classes and attending sports games is always fun!

    Food and Dining

Our dining hall receives mixed reviews, most on the negative side. The food our cafeteria serves could be better in quality, and our cafeteria is not sustainable (no matter how much they advertise themselves to be). We do not have reusable dishes and cutlery, and as a result, we waste so much plastic. However, the dining hall is seeking to improve by taking suggestions from students. They have extended hours to accommodate for students who have late classes, and they are increasingly offering more foods that are popular.

    Dorm Life

    First-year dorms are the nicest.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor varies with each program, but overall, the coursework is challenging. That being said, there are many programs offered to help students, such as peer-tutoring for both science and humanities classes.

    What to do for fun

The surrounding Albany area has so much to do, such as beautiful malls, stores, parks, restaurants, festivals, and movie theaters. There is always something going on, whether it be on campus or off. There are several events held on campus every day, usually involving free food and services.

    Food and Dining

The food at ACPHS is not the best; there doesn't seem to much of a variety to what the dining hall serves, plus there is only one dining hall on campus as opposed to other campuses that typically have several dining facilities. However, there are several good restaurants in the Albany area, so when you get sick of the food offered here, you can always get something different or order take out!

    Dorm Life

The dorms here are significantly nicer than the dorms at most colleges. They are spacious and have a very homey feeling. Freshmen year, each room has its own bathroom, mini fridge, microwave, and AC/heating unit. Upperclassmen housing is typically suite style and includes a full kitchen. Overall, the dorm buildings are kept very clean and are very spacious, making it easy to feel comfortable and at home here.

    Academic Rigor

The academics here are very rigorous; you must make time for your studies and learn how to time manage. It is a change from high school level work, but it's definitely manageable if you put in the time and effort. The professors here are very helpful and willing to meet with students and answer any questions they may have. ACPHS also offers several resources for academic help, including peer and professional tutoring, all included in tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

Before coming to ACPHS, make sure you are academically strong in math and science; this school is very specialized and offers only health and science programs. Try to work or intern in a pharmacy setting before entering the PharmD program to make sure you like the field of pharmacy; it is a very fast-paced work setting that isn't for everyone. Come visit ACPHS before you apply; we have a beautiful campus and friendly students waiting to show you around campus and answer any questions you may have!

    In three sentences

ACPHS is a wonderful, small, academically-rigorous, community-focused college specializing in health and science programs. Overall, my experience here has been great; I love the campus, the professors, the friends I've made here, and the memories I have made. If you're looking to get a quality education, where everything is highly individualized, ACPHS is the school for you.

    Tips for prospective students

You can't get anywhere without studying. Practice exam questions are key. It's okay if you don't get it right away. I didn't. It took me about half a semester to even figure out how to study in a way that helped myself. It wasn't too late though.

    Campus Safety

We truly do have great public safety officers. They'll help you with anything. I've heard about two incidents this year and they were both taken care of very quickly.

    Academic Rigor

It's a pain sometimes, but it is an accelerated program. Your friends from other schools will say how much free time they have with their general classes. You will not.

    What to do for fun

There's a great fitness center here and tons of clubs. Weekly events are sent out in emails and are anything from playing some sport in the open field or decorating mugs. I'm sure you'll find on campus things you'll enjoy. Crossgates is also and short drive away, so shopping or movies on the weekend is very available to you.

    In three sentences

ACPHS is tough to get used to. I would guess the atmosphere is quite different than other colleges because this is such a serious school. I have heard that it's a great place to go if you're ready to work, and that is the case.

    Dorm Life

I live in a double. It has a redone bathroom that was just updated this summer. It's quite nice. You might lose a roommate to stress, but I promise you, you'll do just fine. I basically have my own studio apartment in this little room and I love it.

    Food and Dining

Chartwells will try to pull you in the first few weeks... Then it gets to be repetitive and not so satisfying. You'll be sick of the food. They don't have much variety either, which gets extremely annoying when you try to keep a balance with your food, while still trying to change it up. People will beg you for meal swipes at the end of the semester because they won't have enough. And they basically don't feed you on the weekends. I went to the dining hall on a Saturday at 2:30 in the afternoon and my only choices were a deli sandwich or breakfast... it's ridiculous. You pay so much for nothing honestly.

Great for these types of students

    Pharmacy students

    Bang for the buck

    Expensive.

    What to do for fun

There are activities planned by the SGA that are somewhat fun.

    Food and Dining

The food is overpriced for its quality...

    Tips for prospective students

For pre-pharmacy students, it is best to get involved with some clubs to help you get to know other students better. The upperclassmen will do what they can to help you succeed as well.

    In three sentences

ACPHS is a small private college that has a good professor-student ratio that benefit the student academically. There are a lot of resources that helps the students in and out of the classroom. I believe that academic integrity is the most important at this college.

    What to do for fun

Go to the mall, movies, New York City, Boston, play in the snow, etc.

    Food and Dining

Just what you would expect for most colleges. However, meal plan options for students who are not close to home are low. On top meal plan only get 10 cafeteria meals a week, and you are on your own for the rest of the week.

    Dorm Life

Standard, nothing above normal. However, each dorm has its own bathroom, mini fridge, microwave, and AC/heater system.

    Academic Rigor

Programs are designed to get students jobs as soon as graduate college. All majors require above and beyond the minimal requirements. Courses challenge students daily, but there is a great tutor system put in place if you need help.

    Tips for prospective students

Know what you plan to do for a career and what degree you want. Visit the campus and surrounding area to get a feel for the school. And work hard in high school so you can get scholarships.

    In three sentences

It is a small school with a.very close knit family feeling. The campus is located in a residential area with malls only ten to fifteen minutes away. Every is very kind and polite and are willing to help you.

    What to do for fun

There are so many clubs you can join, there's only four sports since it is a small school; soccer, basketball, cross country, and track and field. Since you are in the heart of Albany you can go anywhere you want. There lots to do to enjoy yourself.

    Food and Dining

Wide variety of foods. The best thing about it here is the Tim Horton's/ ColdStone.

    Dorm Life

The freshmen dorms are AWESOME. They are either double, triple, or quad, and each room has their own bathroom, mini fridge and microwave. The dorms are very roomy as well. Even the dorms when you advance through the years are great and eventually you can get apartments 'off' campus, even though they are closer than the other dorm halls.

    Academic Rigor

It is hard but manageable. It is a science oriented school so there are really tough courses, but every year people graduate so it isn't impossible, just hard. Time management is key.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to come here I recommend touring campus, talking to current students and making sure that you want a small, close-knit community. You will have to study a lot more here and if you don't think you are going to be able to handle the work load, then maybe you should reconsider. Other than the fact that there is going to be a lot of work, everything else about ACPHS is awesome.

    In three sentences

A very small, focused science school with plenty of opportunities to not only get involved and meet new people, but increase your knowledge of your future career and yourself. ACPHS also has a beautiful campus in the heart of Albany and everyone there is friendly and willing to help you succeed.

    Food and Dining

Food is very good and reasonably priced.

    Dorm Life

I did not live on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Very challenging, but once you get the hang of it, it is very rewarding.

    Tips for prospective students

Study, work hard and have fun!

    In three sentences

ACPHS is an outstanding option for students ready to take on a fast paced education. There are many options available outside of the Doctor of Pharmacy program that will foster your learning. Overall it has been an amazing experiance so far.

    What to do for fun

Go to Crossgates Mall, Starbucks, Panera for food. Downtown Albany has a lot of interesting museums. Right off campus around Lark St are a lot of restaurants/bars for those who enjoy the night life. :)

    Food and Dining

Food is not too bad. Honestly can believe that it can be better. The food from the grill is pretty good, but if you go there at peak hours, you can end up waiting for 20 minutes for your cheeseburger. Another plus is that they are offering healthy alternatives there as well eg: salmon burger.

    Dorm Life

A lot of fun, you will definitely meet and make a lot of good friends while you are here. The dorms are pretty comfortable, comes with air conditioning / central air.

    Academic Rigor

The workload is pretty heavy, there is definitely a lot of work outside the classroom to be done which either strives for students to individually learn new concepts or reinforce material that was learned in class. Also, there is a lot of overlap in material, which requires knowledge of what was taught previously. However, pretty much all the professors try to make themselves as accessible as possible to the students, if not by office hours, then via e-mail.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to stay on top of the school work. It is a very intense program right from the start, with their goal of adjusting the pre-pharmacy students to the rigorous work that is required to be successful during the professional years. One suggestions that I have is to go to the Science Assistance Center, where there are professional staff with degrees in their respective fields to help with the basic sciences. These people are indispensable, and I recommend going there on a weekly basis to brush up on material that may be a little confusing. Another suggestion is to sign up for a peer tutor. They are great to answer questions and the selection process is very rigorous as well.

    In three sentences

Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is a very nurturing school. Even starting from the pre-pharmacy courses, the focus has always been around pharmacy and the professional world. All the faculty are familiar with the scope of pharmacy and are able to direct students to resources which would greatly benefit the student and recognize the overall goal of obtaining a PharmD.

Double to Quad freshman dorms. Each dorm has it's own bathroom.

    Tips for prospective students

This school is obviously focused on pharmacy and is very expensive to intend. Do not come here unless you are absolutely sure you want to become a pharmacist and make the commitment to work.

    Campus Safety

The campus security is very good; I often see them strolling around campus. We also have emergency buttons located around campus that you can press if something is wrong and security immediately comes to you.

    Greek Life

There are a couple fraternities and sororities around campus who host certain special events and such.

    Clubs and Activities

We have a plethora of clubs and activities for every interest. Many are centered around pharmacy and medicine, but we also have a music group and an equestrian club among other groups.

Great for these types of students

    -Goal oriented -Hard-working -Non-procrastinators -Dedicated

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Our campus has a room in the basement of our student center that is known to very few people, including students, that is called the Panther's Den. The only way to get there is by elevator and it is filled with old arcade games, like Pacman, Frogger and an air hockey table.

    Bang for the buck

This school is pretty expensive, even with scholarships and such, but it is a renowned school with many connections. However, I've heard that there are other pharmacy schools that have a similar reputation but cost less.

    What to do for fun

There's not a whole lot of time for fun, but when you cant stand the work load anymore and need a break there are lots of options. The school hosts tons of activities, such as movies and spa days, and being in the heart of Albany, everything is fairly close, including the malls.

    Food and Dining

There is a large variety of food here, but it is not always up to par and can get expensive if you don't have a meal plan. The meal plans are nice because they come with Flex dollars which can be used at certain places off campus.

    Dorm Life

The dorms here are not terrible, but the best part about staying on campus is that most of the people around are you are in the same classes as you so help is just a door away.

    Academic Rigor

This school is tough! Getting an A is a miracle; C- is average. There are tests just about every week in addition to weekly labs and long term projects.

    Tips for prospective students

If at all possible, stay on campus. Learn to love your computer because you can't live without it here. Make lots of friends, a study group is your best tool; not to mention you won't get much time to see your old friends.

    In three sentences

This school is definitely a major challenge and you can't expect to be able to have any social life while you're here, but it can be rewarding thinking about why you're doing this. Being able to stay organized and manage your time is a required skill to succeed here. Staying on campus is a huge advantage but is fairly costly.

Great for these types of students

Great for people that keep on top of their work. If you're a slacker, you will fall behind fast and hard. You really only want to join the pharmacy program if you're a hard worker and willing to sacrifice time to study. You will definitely need to study much harder than you had in high school, so be prepared.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors and the tutors in the writing center right off the bat. It will make your life much easier in the long run. They are there to help you, so never be scared to ask for help. Also, learn your way around the library building. The librarians are kind, very helpful and very willing to help out. They are saints when you're still learning your way around the library database. The writing center and the science assistance center are on the second floor, where there is a plethora of people able to help you manage your coursework. Though you'll want to find our their schedules because they're not there 24/7.

    Bang for the buck

The price is steep, but you get a lot in return. There are many activities on campus, so many you don't necessarily need to leave the campus to find something fun to do. For example, there's the library, the work out gym, and the gymnasium. There are clubs like Zumba club, dance team, karate club, colleges against cancer, multicultural club and Another Creative Prospective. The student center is an amazing place as well. The dining hall offers an amazing variety of foods, including a Tim Horton's and Coldstone Creamery. And there's something happening in the atrium almost everyday.

    Am enjoying being here

There is a lot of work. A lot of time the courseload can feel extremely overwhelming, but keep at it and it can be rewarding. There are so many places you can find help. There are also many activities and events planned for the students each year. Some of the events include Relay For Life, movies every Friday, Bingo nights, comedians, Human vs. Zombie and much more.

    Am learning a lot

There's a lot of work to be done, as well as a lot of studying and memorizing. It's great, if you can keep on top of the workload. The professors are brilliant as well. They're nice, smart, approachable, and really knows what they're doing.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for people who like to work hard and don't care for partying. You need to be very well disciplined when it comes to studying.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are coming to this college I advise you to start studying during the summer. Make a schedule and plan study time. Know how to study, this school is very hard.

    Bang for the buck

Its an expensive college but what college isn't? The campus looks nice most of the time and everything is clean but there are some things that need some work. For example, when it rains, there is a leak in the ceiling in the calculus room and it drips into a large plastic funnel and for some people it can be a distraction. Other than that the food needs some help but at least you won't gain the freshman fifteen.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy my time here and there are many things to do on Fridays and Saturdays. Every weekend they show a movie at the student center and the other days there are many things to do. They have many clubs and encourage students to make their own and get involved.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot here. Some of the classes are very difficult but they are passable. The teachers are willing to help you but you need to make sure you find them and ask for help.

Great for these types of students

This school is for someone who wants a small campus. There aren't many sports, so it's for someone who may want to just play intramural type sports. It's for someone who wants a great career that they have to work for.

    Tips for prospective students

Study a lot! It's hard work and you have to work hard to do well. The professors can help you, but it is up to you to work at doing well.

    Bang for the buck

There are definitely great facilities and faculty/staff for the price.

    Am enjoying being here

It is a great campus, it's small which I personally like. You get to know everyone and you see the same people all the time. Also, Albany is a great little city. Not too big to be overwhelming, but not so small, there's nothing to do.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers are great, but you have to get used to them. They make sure you understand the material and are helpful. You will need to learn but will learn.
