Upward Bound at Wytheville Community College is funded through the U.S. Department of Education. The year round academic program provides opportunities for high school students from 8 schools in the college's service region to succeed in their precollege performance and in their higher education pursuits. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. The program provides academic instruction in mathematics, laboratory sciences, composition, literature, and foreign languages. This instruction along with cultural enrichment, college tours and similar activities are provided to high school students from low-income families; and/or high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree.
