Program Description

The University of New Orleans Upward Bound Project PASS mission is to provide academic support, tutoring and college entrance preparation for low-income, first generation college bound high school students and their families. We accept students in 9th grade , including those with documented disabilities, and follow them through high school graduation. We are available to support them through college and for two years after they complete their program.

Some services we provide include:

  • Weekly in school tutoring at target schools utilizing current technology as well as advocacy training
  • Saturday supplemental instruction throughout the school year at UNO's campus with a focus on project based, 21st century learning experiences including a laboratory science program.
  • Six week academic and community based summer program on UNO's campus
  • Career planning, financial aid advisement, scholarship searches
  • Cultural, social, and recreational activities
  • Disability accommodations information and advocacy as needed
  • Opportunities for college visits and career exploration
  • Assisting students with navigating the college entrance process
  • Please feel free to join/visit our blog at

Success Stories

We became a POSSE and Gates-Millenium Scholarship nominating program in 2014. This year we had two students qualify, and one student receive a full POSSE scholarship to Tulane University. Kayla joins David and several other 2016 seniors who have been successful in funding a majority of their college tuition through academic or arts scholarships.
