Upward Bound programs provide fundamental support to their participants in preparation for college. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege coursework in high school and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which their participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
Upward Bound is a college preparatory program that builds great characters and leaders. I am proud to say that I am one of those leaders. Upward Bound has prepared be for college beyond what my high school or parents could. Since my freshman year, I have participated in academic seminars and courses. Through the countless hours spent at Upward Bound, I have gained skills in communication, time management, and organization. These skills will be an advantage when attending college. I know that being on time will allow for better success not only in my academic life but also in my social life. With strong organizational skills, I will be able to prioritize my assignments and communication skills will allow me to better network with my college peers and professors. --Maria Olalde, Upward Bound Class of 2013, Trinity University, Class of 2017
