Program Description

A. Scholarship Central Access Program is a full-service college access program, which provides information and services pertaining to every aspect of the process of planning and preparing for education beyond high school for free to students and families. The goal of the Ohio College Guides project is to 1.) deliver effective and cost-efficient college advising that will raise awareness of postsecondary educational opportunities and increase college enrollment rates of under-represented, low-income and first generation students by expanding advisory services within Scholarship Central Access Program. In addition, the program aims to 2.) create sustainable programs in the region, and 3.) build deeper partnerships between the community, higher education institutions, high schools and community organizations to address college access barriers. The mission of the Ohio College Guides is to increase the reach of Scholarship Central by expanding the access services to area high schools by utilizing the AmeriCorps program. These advisors provide current, relevant, and first-hand information on the college-going process to traditionally under-served students (low-income, minority, first-generation); provide strong examples to traditionally underserved students of caring young adults who have completed post-secondary education; and to increase awareness of post-secondary educational opportunities and ultimately increase college enrollment in our community. Scholarship Central will staff four (4) full-time AmeriCorps members in Muskingum County high schools to focus on college and career readiness for the 2013-14 school year in partnership with the Ohio College Access Network. The target population for the Ohio College Guide program is high school students, grades 9 ????????????????????????????¢?? 12, in Muskingum County. While the agency serves all students throughout the southeastern Ohio region, the Ohio College Guide program focuses on students in Muskingum County.
