Program Description

Founded in 1989 by Pitt Hyde, The Memphis Challenge coaches high-achieving, underrepresented students, through leadership and professional development, preparing them to become future Memphis leaders. The program currently boast an alumni and student network of more than 500 of the finest academic minds and career disciplines imaginable.

Over 400 have completed internships with local businesses, agencies and organizations; and nearly 300 are now living in Memphis. Their success is supported by partners who provide funding, expertise, internship opportunities and other resources.

We expanded our college prep program in 2013 with the introduction of the 9/10 Movement. Our first cohort of 48 ninth and tenth graders were exposed to the skills and knowledge needed to perform at a high level of academic and community leadership.
