Program Description

Let's Get Ready envisions a world where students from all socioeconomic backgrounds have equal access to the support they need to reach higher education. Let's Get Ready's MISSION is to expand college access for motivated, low-income high school students by providing FREE SAT preparation and college admission counseling.

Let's Get Ready accomplishes this mission by enlisting college student volunteers who serve as "Coaches" in the program providing not only SAT instruction, but the inspiration, enthusiasm, and confidence to go to college as well. Utilizing college students as the organization's backbone enables Let's Get Ready to provide our high school participants with the mentoring power of college student volunteers as well as invaluable help with the entire college application process.

Let's Get Ready's local programs throughout the northeast operate with a program model that includes:
39 hours of SAT preparation:

  • 15 hours of math skill-building
  • 15 hours of verbal skill-building
  • 3 practice SAT tests
  • Taught in seminar-style groups with no more than 5 students per volunteer Coach

At least 15 hours of college choice and application guidance on:

  • College research, selection and visits
  • Essay writing
  • Financial aid applications
  • Scholarship opportunity research and applications
  • Career exploration
  • One-on-one mentoring with adults, young professionals and college role models

In 2012, LGR is on track to run more than 70 programs throughout the northeast serving about 2,800 students with the assistance of over 1,200 college volunteers.

  • Let's Get Ready has guided more than 14,000 under-served students through the college process.
  • Let's Get Ready has trained and supported 6,000 college student volunteers with outstanding results.
  • Over 90% of Let's Get Ready students go directly to college after high school.
