The mission of KIPP Through College (KTC) is to empower the alumni to continue to use their KIPP-learned scholarly habits, knowledge, and qualities of character in their current school and in life to attain a degree(s) in higher education and further their communities.
What We Do
Through our experience, we know that in order to have enough great individual student achievement and overall alumni results in both quality and quantity to change societal beliefs, we must help our children build a better tomorrow for themselves and generations to come. Some of the ways we encourage and build these results is by following the following guidelines:
KTC offers alumni a learning plan for success and support through various initiatives. These initiatives include but are not limited to: counseling, academic support services, college placement, summer internships/Jobs, enrichment building programs, facilitate the beginning of a local/national KIPP Alumni Association, and to provide jobs to support the newly formed Alumni Association.
Support Counseling: KTC staff follow-up with alumni no less than four times a year. Individual counseling as well as group and family sessions are provided to ensure that emotional and social issues do not distract KIPP alumni as they travel the road toward college degrees and successful futures.
Academic Support Services: Critical to the success of the KIPP alumni is their academic success throughout high school and college. Tutoring coordinated through the schools or KIPP staff and access to PSAT/SAT courses are all encouraged to support each student as needed. In addition, all KIPP alumni are required to submit report cards to the KIPP Through College office.
High School and College Placement: All KIPP alumni begin to receive guidance in the college application process while at KIPP. College tours, essay writing workshops, interviewing skills, assistance in completing the actual applications, help in applying for financial aid, scholarships, maintaining an extensive database of scholarships, networking with college admission officers, as well as individual college placement counseling for every KIPP family are essential aspects of this program.
Summer Internships/Jobs and Enrichment Building Programs: A critical part of the KTC program is preparing our students with an understanding of and an enthusiasm for the variety of careers that exist in the world. These opportunities also assist the creation of a résumé for future endeavors and opportunities.
Career Resources and Placement: KIPP alumni earn access to KIPP's nationwide network of professional organizations and career pathways.
