Program Description

Juma??????????¢??s social enterprise operates concessions at professional sports venues such as Oracle Park with the purpose of creating jobs that can be transformational to these youth. Through this entry-level work opportunity, youth gain experience and training while earning an income. They learn how to manage their money and develop important skills like responsibility, customer service, and how to communicate in the workplace.

Youth are employed for one season (6 months approximately) and earn on average $2,000. While at Juma, youth set-up career goals and plans with the help of their program coordinator. Through partnerships with corporations such as CVS Pharmacy and Gap Inc. Juma then helps connects the young people to permanent employment. The program coordinators provide 90 days retention support to ensure that youth are successful in their new workplace and help them connect to education pathways that will allow them to progress toward a middle-skill job.

In 2018, Juma employed 154 young people in San Francisco who collectively worked more than 18,000 hours and earned $290,000.
