Because it is essential that every student have their own personal advocate and mentor, HYPE recruits highly motivated teachers in low-income schools who possess a potential for professional leadership, an ability to inspire students, colleagues, and their community to serve as Teacher Advocates.
HYPE works closely with teachers to select low-income students in their school communities who possess academic ability and specific traits of character that make them successful candidates for the independent school admissions process.
Students are prepared academically and socially for placement and success in a college-prep independent school with a range of programming and curriculum spanning a twelve month period. Students partake in a seven week intensive Summer Prep Program to build up academic skills. During the school year, teachers are provided with detailed after-school tutoring curriculum and guidelines. HYPE students also take ISEE prep courses, engage in intensive interview preparation, visit potential school sites, take an etiquette course, go on field trips that build cultural capital, and participate in an admissions essay writing workshop.
Summer Prep Program
HYPE guides all students through the application and financial aid process. Partnerships between HYPE and a number of independent schools in the Los Angeles area allows for effective advocacy of each student in a school that best fits their needs.
All application and testing fees are paid for by HYPE. Through intensive development efforts, HYPE will create an endowment fund in order to provide additional support for students who have additional academic expenses.
Additional academic and social support is available to all HYPE students throughout their independent high school career.
