Program Description

The College Access Program (CAP) is an after school program at Howard High School in order to help our students reach their career and college readiness goals. Through the CAP, students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of informational sessions, workshops, and college visits. In Delaware and especially at Howard, we have found that students often have a desire to further their education after high school, but are not sure how to do so or what schools would be a good fit for them. According to a recent article in The News Journal, â??a third of Delawareans have some kind of post-high school degreeâ?¦(but) more than half of the stateâ??s jobs will require such education by the end of the decade.â?? In addition, a recent study by the Harvard Strategic Data Project indicated that 27% of college-ready low-income students do not matriculate to college â?? a figure we think is important to change here at Howard.
