AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system for elementary through higher education that is designed to increase school-wide learning and performance.
The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.
AVID at Gateway
Gateway College Preparatory School is in its second year implementing AVID at the secondary level grade 6-12 and in our first year at the elementary level grades 4 and 5. We will apply for secondary certification at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. Students in grades 6-12 are exposed to AVID strategies in their core classes and have the opportunity to take an AVID elective class for more focused implementation of the research-based strategies needed for college success. Gateway College Preparatory School plans to expand AVID to the lower elementary in the future.
