Since 1987, Family Matters (FM) has partnered with Northeast Rogers Park to develop leadership that promotes social change, from the individual to systemic levels. Our Principles of Leadership (embracing positive thinking and language; utilizing peaceful conflict resolution; and encouraging responsible decision-making) shape our strategies. During 2011-12, Family Matters engaged approximately 300 youth (grades K-12) through our outreach/school-based initiatives and holistic after-school programs. After-school programs include: Family Connections for children, ages 5-12, and their families; Teen Programs, age and gender specific initiatives for youth 12-19; and Community Tutoring (CT), which has four distinct education initiatives. Health and Wellness and Post-secondary Readiness goals are embedded within the programs and extend into the community. Respectful Communities training takes Principles of Leadership to audiences outside of FM.
