Exploring College at Vassar College Urban Education Initiative

Program Description

Exploring College is a community outreach program that provides college prep services and support for high school students in the Poughkeepsie, NY area. These services include counseling and mentorship from Vassar College students, after school tutoring, SAT prep sessions, writing workshops and seminars on various aspects of college life.

Most of the students we serve are from low-income families and would be the first or among the first in their families to go onto college. Many, though not all, of our students are immigrants (both documented and undocumented) or first-generation American.
