Program Description

Game Plan: College is a free college access program designed to help ensure Durhama's high school students receive the information and support they need to proactively plan for and access their best-fit postsecondary option--two factors linked to students' school engagement and high school graduation. Game Plan: College is an open-access program, meaning that students do not have to apply for or enroll in the program to access services.

Through Game Plan: College, interactive workshops aligned with the key tasks of the college/postsecondary planning and admissions process--beginning in grade 9 and extending through the senior year--are delivered to high school students in school- and/or community-based settings, or on-site at the Emily K Center. Individualized advising is offered to juniors and seniors to help students generate a list of college or postsecondary options that best meet students' personal, social and career interests and financial need. Seniors receive hands-on support to complete college applications, essays, FAFSA, scholarship applications and other specific requirements for their postsecondary admission and enrollment process. Developing school-based events and activities that generate excitement and contribute to a college-going mindset and culture is also a collaborative opportunity offered by the

Game Plan: College team, which consists of a program leader (Associate Director of Postsecondary Access), four professional postsecondary advisers, a college near-peer mentor, and six Teen Ambassadors, high school students who are trained in college access and who support the program through assistance with events and workshops, and by developing youth-friendly content for workshops and publications.
