Program Description

OUR MISSION:

Providing necessary support to at-risk/homeless students dedicated to becoming educated, independent, contributing members of society.

CUDA HOUSE:

Our home offers students a place of safety and security through a supervised (Bridge Tender) and structured (contract) caring environment. Students living at The CUDA House are able to focus on learning and graduating from high school. The generosity of the CUDAS UnHooked community teaches our young people that success includes service. Residents give back through community service as they become productive young adults, growing in both knowledge and integrity.

MENTORING:

An important part of helping at-risk students successfully complete high school graduation requirements is offering assistance in two areas of focus through the Mentoring Pillar component: volunteer tutoring and individual/group counseling.

To complement the regular school program, communication with administration, guidance, and teachers is essential. Any contacts are discussed with students prior to meetings. Administration has been very helpful in their support. Mentoring volunteers are always welcomed on campus and are permitted to check out copies of texts used by students in their course work. Guidance counselors are very open to meeting with Mentoring volunteers to discuss areas of concern. Teachers will also give input as to student course requirements.

Meeting the emotional needs of the Bridge House residents and CUDAS UnHooked club members is an important component of the program. Weekly group counseling establishes a precedent for students regarding the importance of facing their problems and the value of sharing with others. Group counseling provides a model for problem solving and helps students to learn how to access emotional support in a positive way. By establishing a routine of weekly counseling, counseling is seen as another tool for dealing with the stressors in their lives. Individual counseling is also available to students.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:

CUDAS UnHooked members are offered personal development skills to meet some of the demands that life will have for them, such as budgeting, job skills and networking. Most importantly they are encouraged to think about the future and how to get to college.

SENIOR LIFE:

The last year of high school is not just filled with classes, but also the traditions and ceremonies that make your high school years memorable. Our Student Life program was designed to help those students in need with such expenses as Homecoming, Prom, Grad Bash, Yearbooks and Senior Dues. In addition, our programs helps with transportation to doctor appointments, special school related events and job interviews.
