Program Description

Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston is a 501(c)3 whose mission is to help young people, especially those who need us most, build strong character and realize their full potential as responsible citizens and leaders.

We do this by providing:

- a safe haven filled with hope and opportunity

- ongoing relationships with caring adults

- life-enhancing programs

We serve approximately 15,000 children and teens, ages 6 to 18, in our Clubs, and through our programs and partnerships. Our approach focuses on six core initiatives: Arts; Education; Leadership; Life Skills; Sports, Fitness and Recreation; and Technology. During the summer, many of our Clubs run summer camp programs for children and leadership programs for teens.

The Teen Education Program at the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club's mission is to provide tutoring, support, resources, motivation, and a safe and quiet place to complete homework so that each of our members will graduate high school with a bright future filled with opportunities for both personal and educational advancement. The Education Room is open for homework from 2:00 until closing with help always available. One of the many programs offered to the teens is College Club. The goal of College Club is to help prepare our teens for the college application process by providing weekly workshops where the college application process is broken down in extreme detail. Guest speakers from local colleges and current college students come in and speak with our teens to provide them with a firsthand look at the admissions process. During the school vacation weeks and summer months we also provide college tours in which we encourage all of our teen members to participate in. The primary age of the teens in our college club is 10th graders through 12th graders but we also encourage younger students to join if they are interested.

Another goal of our College Club is to help make college a financial reality for our teens. Many of our members come from low income homes and do not have the financial needs to attend college. We work hard to find scholarships for all of our graduating teens so that money will not be the obstacle holding them back. A partnership with College Greenlight would allow us and our members more access to scholarships and would benefit our program immensely.

Our teen center is open for youth aged 13 through 18 years old from 1:30 to 8:00pm. Our Club is open to all members of the Charlestown and Boston community.
